I read a great review of the restaurant but neglected to check the lunch menu which was nothing like the dinner menu. Just boring hotel food. Not bad food, but boring. My fault. Should have checked the lunch menu on line. Would not recommend for lunch, but still would like to try the dinner sometime.

The food was wonderful -- best shishito peppers and softshell crabs EVER -- and the service was fine. But the host's failure, when I arrived, to note that I was honoring my OpenTable reservation meant wasted time the next day demonstrating to OpenTable that I DID honor the reservation.

Our meal was outstanding! The chef is quite creative and the flavors were unique. I really appreciated having vegetarian options. My dish featured morels and was both light and really rich. The atmosphere is quite comfortable, chic, and relaxing. I highly recommend American Son and can’t wait to go back!

American Son is just a wonderful place for brunch! The service was absolutely impeccable. Everything was delicious, innovative and artfully prepared. The chef was wonderfully accommodating and there even was a beautiful gluten free cinnamon swirl pastry (the menu is well labeled to boot) that made me feel "seen" as a person with a gluten allergy. The drinks are incredible, too.

For such an expensive and highly touted spot, this was pretty meh. While everything was prepared well, the flavors weren’t that interesting, and at $25 for a small plate, not worth the trip. The shishito pepper bites were fantastic though.

Good food, but expensive for the portion sizes. Very loud because the restaurant is attached to the bar, which was very crowded when we visited. The Eaton hotel is very trendy overall.

Menu very limited, food and wine list. Fritters looked like funnel cake. Entrees served in a tiny bowl. Chef is very heavy handed with salt.

Food was outstanding. Very interesting menu. Not a lot of choices and the format is different: plates v. large portions to share. We ordered the whole fish and it was presented beautifully and it was delicious.
Appetizer of peppers was very good as well as dessert!

Disappointing breakfast - eggs, bacon and toast came out cold despite us being the only people in the restaurant. I didn’t have time to wait for a replacement so I just ate it anyway, but not a great start to my day.

I enjoyed my meal at American Son but I wish the lunch menu was more interesting. It seemed like the standard blah steak, burger, whatever -- whereas some of the items available for breakfast (e.g. the congee) and dinner sounded much more intriguing.

We dined there for Father's Day. Service was good, but the restaurant seemed to be short servers, even though there were many empty tables when we arrived. The plates came out in no particular order or at the same time. Drinks were slow to be delivered and overpriced. The food was interesting, but not particularly diverse. It almost seemed to be new Asian Fusion without the Asian. Also, the restaurant was really overpriced for the food and ambiance level. All in all, food was good, but not great, service was good, but not great, menu selection was good, but not great and the value was poor, period. There are a lot of better restaurants in the neighborhood and the city. I would advise you to seek them out.

Everything about the evening was great. The server was excellent, providing both good recommendations and excellent timing. We started with bbq'd shishito peppers and cocktails and the peppers were outstanding. We followed that with a pasta with rabbit sauce and it was both rich and delicious. We then had soft shell crabs which were done in an Indian style, curry sauce and papaya salad. After the meal which we had ordered one dish at a time, we went to the hotel's hidden bar where we had after dinner drinks. Overall, a great night.

The food was incredible, the service was warm and professional, and the open air bar table seating was lovely on a beautiful DC evening. I walked out ten pounds heavier after swearing I wouldn’t have another bite of the potato funnel cake croquette thing (trust me), the rigatoni with rabbit, the gnocchi with mushrooms, the soft shell crab in an amazing curry, the duck breast, the shisito peppers, and two killer desserts. I’ll be running five miles tomorrow, but so worth it!

Lovely meal and venue, especially the indoor/outdoor tables on a pretty evening. Be careful...the Shishito pepper appetizer, though good, is a lot of peppers! The "small plates" are relatively large portions so the two of us were more than satisfied with three plates between us. Our favorite was the gnocchi.

the ever creative Tim Ma manages to coax new experiences even from what seem like traditional dishes...during this special Mother's Day brunch the menu looked pretty standard, but the tastes were great --- loved the way he prepared his crabcake sandwich, collared greens and grits in particular...but even the tray of breads was excellent...and the dessert buffet!

Tasty food and fairly reasonable prices for lunch. Very modern riff i.e., “wellness choices” for fruit drinks which seemed expensive for what was basically juice. We had the salads with salmon and steak and a rather mystifying “short cake” which was deconstructed but attractively presented. Was a bit disappointed that there weren’t more Asian options. Still, it was an interesting place and a nice change from the business type options in the downtown area.

Super cute restaurant. And indoor/outdoor so it was great for a beautiful day. We sat at a table with a banquette on one side and chair on the other and the chair was SO uncomfortable. We got açaí bowls and honestly they were horrible. $12 for like 3/4 cup of açaí bowl with 3 slivers of strawberry and a handful of blueberries. Also, there were teaspoons to eat it with which was very awk. I probably wouldn’t recommend eating here but I could see it as a great spot for a drink. Oh PS they have no iced coffee or iced coffee drinks...not sure how that’s possible on a brunch menu.

Really delicious food by the same chef at the now-closed Kyirisan. Delectable Asian-American dishes that are filling and tasty. It's a bit pricier tha ti would have expected, with small plates (two recommended per person) costing $15-$25 each. My friend and I shared an appetizer and two dishes and felt satisfied. Will definitely be back to try more dishes.
