The Standard, an American Bistro Style Restaurant and Bar, located in the American Hotel right at the heart of Downtown Freehold. Open everyday for lunch and dinner until 9:00 pm, and offering an a la carte brunch on Sundays.

The contemporary menu offers a tantalizing variety featuring steaks, seafood and bistro-style dishes. Enjoy our upscale menu with friends while sipping on one our specially crafted cocktails.

Happy Hour is offered at the bar 7 days a week from 3:00-6:00. Additionally, we are now offering half priced bottles of wine every Wednesday and Sunday.

Please note that all reservations are for Indoor Dining only. Outdoor dining is purely first come, first serve. However, if you have a reservation, and there is an outside table available at the time of your arrival, you will be welcomed to it.

    Went here for the Mothers Day brunch. Was better than I had expected. Full buffet with tons of great options. For the price & the value we got, it was exceptional. Our server (Molly) was great! I felt bad for her as she seemed to be the only server working our area, which seemed to be a bit overwhelming given the amount of people. Overall, was a good value, good food & the mothers enjoyed it. That’s what matters most

    Went for Mothers Day brunch. It was good but not great. We went a few years ago and it was much better. It was too expensive and the quality was just OK.

    We were disappointed with the service that we received at your Mother's Day brunch yesterday, specifically at the hostess stand during the brunch buffet hours. Upon arrival, we were met with an unwelcoming and unprofessional attitude from the hostesses on duty. Rather than greeting us politely or offering any assistance, they were dismissive and did not acknowledge us as we stood in front of them. They appeared visibly irritated when other patrons waiting to be seated asked simple questions about the wait time and seating process. One hostess complained about fellow co-workers to waiting patrons and at no point did she attempt to make us feel like valued guests. The poor attitude we encountered at the very start of our visit set a negative tone for what was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable brunch. While I understand that hospitality can be a demanding job, especially during peak hours, a basic level of courtesy and professionalism is expected — particularly from the first point of contact in your restaurant. The venue was packed with three filled banquet rooms of diners pouring into one banquet room where the food was located. Staff had a hard time keeping up with the refilling of condiments. There should have been staff assigned to maintenance the food station for better food hygiene, as the chafing dishes were managed by diners who would look into each dish and leave the covers open. The food overall was adequate. Our waiter at brunch was okay. He never offered to refill my coffee at any point and the coffee cups were so small to begin with. Since there was an auto gratuity added-there wasn't much point in the waitstaff going above and beyond at a basically self service buffet. I hope you will take this feedback constructively and look into these areas of service as opportunities for improvement. Your brunches have great potential and I believe a commitment to excellent service is what keeps guests returning.

    For the $50 per person for the buffet the food was sub par. The The pastries were from frozen that you would buy at a wholesale club and the pudding was from a can. The waffles were cold and tasteless. The service was terrible and they added a 25% gratuity to the bill. That was just for taking drink orders which they only came to table in beginning of service. I will never go back.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy the items you selected from the buffet, as we truly put a tremendous effort into providing our guests with the finest quality product. I will personally speak with your server to address the issue of just the one visit you received, as you should have gotten much more attention. Please know that the 20% gratuity is custom on holidays, however this is shared with the servers and entire restaurant support staff in which there are many needed to operate a brunch of this magnitude. I would love it if you came back for Dinner at The Standard, and asked for me personally. Thank you again, and I hope to see you soon!

    I’ll start with the hair in the linen napkin covering our utensils that was very obvious as we sat down. Not a little hair mind you. Then I ordered oysters and they are kind of my thing if they are on the menu and it’s not a gas station, I’m going to order them. They come and there is no cocktail fork or hot sauce. I asked for the cocktail fork and it was not the waiter that brought them but the manager and he has the nerve to say, well they are fully rendered. Really? So I’m to use my big fork? And they were NOT fully rendered to use his term, as I had to separate at least two of them from the shell. We also ordered Fried Calamari as an appetizer and that was a big mistake. It was like wasting onion strings and playing a game of find the Calamari which was also over cooked and greasy. I ordered the Prine Rib which was also disappointing in that it had more fat than meat on it. My wife order the Diver Scallops and I’m always saying she is lucky so she asked me to taste them and they were way way over cooked to the point of not eatable and over salted to the point of the same. Luckily she likes pasta so she ate the pasta. I’ve been there 4 times prior and was pleased but this time it missed the mark by a mile.

I am actually the Manager that spoke to you that evening, and please know that I meant no disrespect when I said that the Oysters were rendered, as I was sincerely just letting you know. I always try to check in with every table to ensure the best possible experience, and if I failed to do so with your party, I apologize. If there is ever an issue, we want to fix it in real time, as we pride ourselves on serving only the highest quality meals.     Service is impeccable, food exceptional. Shrimp and grits was so flavorful, seasoned perfectly. Filet Mignon cooked as ordered, shrimp with crab was a standout. Calamari as a starter was a perfect portion size for two to share - very tender and the peppers had the right amount of zing!
