American English Kitchen and Bar Ratings and Reviews
Overall pretty good food for the price. My wife and I both had steak and fries. The pear salad was good as was the pork belly sliders. Service was a little slow at the beginning as they had two large parties which I don't think they are quite ready for. The red wine we had was okay but their list is limited.
Last time I was at that location, it was an Italian restaurant called Fulvio’s. It’s now AE, I was expecting some changes in the decor! Well nothing has changed, this place needs to be updated. Only 2 tables with people in the whole restaurant at 7h30 on a Friday evening. Zero ambiance and weird music playing . Had some belly pork sliders as appetizers, those were good and enough to share. Had some shrimps as main course, good but very average. The only good thing about this place was the service. I have no intention to go back unless I hear they’ve made big changes. Sorry! But much better places to eat in the area.
We had a wonderful meal. There were very few diners in the restaurant - in fact had we not put money in the meter we may not have stayed. But we’re glad we did! The octopus appetizer was outstanding! The scallops and the flat iron steak were delicious. Our only complaint was that since we were sharing the dishes - the scallops and steak should not have come out together as the steak and fries got cold while we ate the scallops. Other than that the meal was terrific. Lovely attentive staff.
We decided to try AE Kitchen after we purchased a Groupon and we had a show to see in the area. We arrived at 6:00 in order to leave plenty of time for dinner and to leave in a timely manner for the show. We were the only table in the restaurant so we had great service and food arrived without any long waits between courses.
The food was great, we shared 4 appetizers and one main course. We asked that it be served in 3 courses and it was, without being rushed. We tried the Pork Belly biscuits, the ceviche, the grilled octopus and the potato beignets. The grilled octopus was the least of our favorites, the other three were stellar. We shared the steak entree with Bearnaise sauce and pommes frittes which was perfectly cooked and seasoned.
The food was the shining star of the experience, the restaurant space was not so much. The table liner under our table was shredded and I kept getting my hand caught on the shreds. The vanity lights in the bathroom were broken off the wall and just left there. Replace them or cap them off. Leaving the broken fixtures attached to the wall makes it look like you don't care. Lastly, the server we had stacked plates on the table as she cleared making me think I was back in summer camp. We were only a table of two and you should be able to clear two plates without having to stack them on the table. Stack them in your arms and bus them out in the kitchen.
I will definitely go back to American English Kitchen, the food was outstanding and with a little polish and training, the service could be outstanding as well.
This was our first time here and we will be back. Service all night was very good and the food was delicious. The owner/chef delivered out appetizer and we spoke about entrees and had a chance to learn about his cooking background. He was very professional and you know he knows good food! Our entrees were so good! 👍
Honestly, I don’t get it. The food was good, but the portions were so small it left us frustrated and hungry. The restaurant has so much potential - just offer regular size portions and good service. The food is good. Not extraordinary but very good. No need for posh wannabe south beach small plates with a la carte items. Go family style or at least offer plates with abundant sides. More fit for this scene and the families that frequent your restaurant. I’ll never go back simply because of the portions. No need to spend $150 on dinner for 2 only to be left hungry an hour later. Just annoying.
We have been to the restaurant twice, and there is not one item on the menu that we would not order again. It is an innovative menu crossing multiple culinary boundaries. The service was quite personable with the chef coming out to greet every table. The wait staff recalled our prior visit and made us feel quite welcome upon coming in again.
Unique Lip Smacking Dishes with frequent daily specials prepared by Chef owner who is a master saucier and provides a good variety of dishes to please all tastes. We found it quite nice to be able to talk to the chef about the dishes if its not too busy in this day and age when the manager rarely even comes by to chat with you. We tried the octopus appetizer which was delicious and not at all chewy - korean barbeque style and then some yummy swordfish with a sauce that swirled around with 2 or 3 different colors . A full bar is available at reasonable prices and the environment calm and elegant. Also there are different size servings for the same dish which appeals to different appetites - we'll definitely return .
This restaurant is an absolute gem and we can’t wait to go back! Chef Russ personally came to check how everything was three times even on a busy Saturday. Great atmosphere, amazing cocktails, and the best lamb shank I’ve ever eaten. We’ll be heading back soon to dive into the tasting portions!
This is the 5th time here, and still has yet to disappoint on any level. My friends LOVED the tasting-sized plates, and we had grouper, shrimp, and tenderloin. The appetizer pork biscuits were sublime and well presented. Cocktails are always great here. My biggest concern is if the neighborhood will support a local, creative, well considered restaurant / bar. I support this place as much as I can, because it's the culinary gem of the area. Keep it up!
Outstanding food by a new, up and coming chef. Very creative ingredients prepared to perfection. Great selection of starters and unique salads, entrees were wonderful and the dessert selection was slim. Don't expect much in the way of decor - food quality far surpasses expectations of beautiful ambiance. Great find!
The food was excellent and way above average as far as quality of the cuisine. I had the flat-iron steak and it was probably the best tasting steak I had in a long time. They had 3 size options even as entree: tasting (small), full (I guess full), and sharing (I guess enough for 2). I chose the tasting size which was relatively small for an expensive meal but it was so good I didn't mind that much. I had one of their appetizers last time and I wasn't disappointed then either. Recommended for the taste but expect high cost.
The excellent food and service and the otherwise pleasant ambiance of this restaurant were completely degraded by the most jarring and incongruous playlist of headbanger music that no diner should be subjected to. Given the demographic of the clientele, the prices of the food, and the obvious efforts being made to create an upscale dining experience, the ridiculous "music" played at deafening decibel range made no sense at all. In addition, it adversely affected the owner's bottom line since we were compelled to skip coffee and dessert solely to escape the relentless soundtrack that blast throughout our meal. Come on, AE OWNER, with music appropriate for the lovely dining experience you are clearly intending to create so easily programmed via Pandora, Spotify, and similar products, there is no excuse for the mush pit music we endured the other night at your restaurant.
This is a great addition to the local dining scene. the menu is refreshingly creative, but not "out there" or overly expensive, relative to the quality. The bar is slightly more upscale than the norm for this are, and the bartender is strong. The dishes come out very visually pleasing and the staff does a reasonable job of being attentive. The chef / owner is starting to get his legs underneath him in this locale, and I am very happy to be a repeat visitor.
Service was sorely lacking in spite of the place not being that busy. Waitress (though very pleasant) came by several times and never once asked us if we would like another drink even though glasses were empty. If we wouldn't have asked it would have never happened. Food is pricey and my wife and I both ordered filet mignon (larger option) and when they brought the food out hers was 30% smaller. When asked the busboy tried to act as if it was normal and really just disregarded our question it felt like. (Sorry but I worked in 5 star NYC restaurants back in the day and know the difference between petit and regular)
Overall it was ok, not great and sadly not memorable. I attribute it more to poor service training from management than quality of fare. In the end we will likely never go back as there are plentiful options and this one just wasn't memorable enough to stay in the mix for me for the prices they command.
Wonderful choice of eclectic dishes not normally found in South Florida.
I particularly like the choice of portion size offered.
The owner and the general manage went out of their way to say hello and make sure that we were happy with the wine, food and service. We shall return.
