What Insiders Are Saying
American Cut is a reminder that all steakhouses are big, but not all steakhouses are boring. Hit it up for the next time you have a big night with your boss on the books.
Had a great meal with family.
Great server as well as great entree’s.
See you soon!
Honestly one of my favorite restaurants ever. The service great, and the filet minon was outstanding. I would definitely come back again, but be careful because it is very pricey!
Had the valentines day pre fix. Lots of broken shells/sand in the oyster. The chilli lobster was extremely spicy. The dessert for two was horrible. Also requested a corner table Well in advance when I made the reservation and was not given it and there was no heads up when confirming the table.
I decided to take my girl to have a steak at a steakhouse for the first time ever... The experience started well enough. They welcomes us with some Mumms Rose champagne for valentines day. The server was energetic and seemed to really believe in the product. As we tried to order the server got distracted after just ordering the wine and ran off "to put in the wine order" and took roughly 10 minutes to come back. We ordered from the Prix fixe menu and were on our way. The incorrect started came out for me, and they just happened to deliver the only option which was $10 more on the prix fixe menu. They were happy to take it back and give me what i ordered but the extra charge was still on the bill when they delivered it. I had to ask to have it taken off. Her steak was undercooked and not evenly seasoned but, still good. My steak was cooked properly but had so much fat around the outside that it wasn't edible and took some effort to be cut with the steak knife (which they forgot to provide prior to the steaks arriving. I had to ask for them). The whipped potatoes were great. The Brussel Sprouts were bitter, we left half of the plate untouched. The macaron for two was phenomenal and easily the best part of the meal. The wine was nice and the somm was attentive and approachable.
For an almost $400 dinner, with tip, I expected more. I think I will stick to Benjamin's, as I know their steaks would have impressed.
It was an amazing dinner our server was nice and the food was good. I also like the style of this restaurant.
Great Staff, Wonderful Food
Disappointed to be sat in the basement. Really ruined my date. Do not sit down there, ruins the whole vibe. Also, no table side flambe.
We waited over 30 min. for our table and the maitre d never once checked in on us/there were many tables open that we could see! Once we were seated the food was delicious (despite cold béarnaise sauce) and the server was very kind.
Absolutely wonderful! Very special.
Had a really great time at American Cut
My only complaint was that my son wanted sliders and I felt like the waitress could not be bothered by asking the bar if we could have them in the dining area
But besides that the food, ambiance and quality of service was exceptional
I’m glad the front section near the bar is first come first serve. Perfect for a causal date or happy hour.
The service is poor. Waited long enough to get someone to order food. And it’s super noisy.
Lots of great steakhouses in NYC so why here? I’ve never - in my life - been so rushed that the dessert was put on the table whilst still eating the main courses. The entire meal was rushed. Horrible experience. I have also never written a review before, given time constraints. That’s just to emphasize my disappointment.
I chose this place for my friend and I during Restaurant Week and all of the food was great! Our filet mignons were cooked and seasoned perfectly. The staff was friendly and attentive. I really enjoyed the whole experience. I hope to be back soon!
We had another wonderful evening at American Cut. The food is always delicious, the atmosphere lively and energetic and the service, great. To share one thing, I like my water room temperature and the manager walked past throughout our evening ensuring that not only our night was going as we hoped, but my water wasn’t iced cold.
Came here for restaurant week - the food was absolutely amazing as was the service. The filet was one of the most tender I have ever had. The staff were also super friendly and not pushy in trying to get us to buy anything al a carte (like some other places have during restaurant week). Would definitely recommend!
40 min wait to get seated but the host offered us a round of desserts to apologize which was a nice touch. The food was good but not great. The waiter was a true pro. Overall ok, but probably better value elsewhere
Service was awful. Soup dropped and spoon for one guest wasn’t set. Not coursed out at all and oyster appetizer wasn’t rung in. Still eating soup and salad when steaks started to come out. Saw the staff turn back with them and put on tray and covered for several minutes before we finished and were cleared. Desserts came out and weren’t asked about coffee or tea until almost half way through them. Oysters ended up being comped which was a nice gesture but overall just seemed like we were being brushed off.
Nice experience. The only thing which didn’t have anything to do with restaurant, was the large group next to us were really loud. Couldn’t hear our conversation. Would have been nice to be sat downstairs, which a more subdued ambiance. Unfortunately this was closed the night we dined. Overall great service.
Exceptional service! Our waiter didnt hover but was attentive and didn't try to oversell us on wine bottles. Great steak!
IT WAS A REALLY GREAT EXPERIENCE WOULD GO BACK! BEAUTIFUL SCENE AND LOCATION IS VERY CONVENIENT
The best modern steakhouse in NYC. Forget the over-rated Peter Luger's...this is the real deal.
We went to American Cut for my boyfriend’a birthday during restaurant week and it was amazing. We were soooo full and loved every minute.
Our corner table was a little dark. Had one nice candle. We had a group of 6, only 2 people could really see their plate. Food was delish. We were packed.
reservation was for 8:45pm... didnt get to table till 9:35pm. they did give us some free drinks but i would have rather pay for the drinks and get seated on time....
I love the food at American Cut... never have I been disappointed with the food or table service (this is not my first review of this restaurant). I don't go there too often because it is a very expensive place to have dinner, even for Manhattan. But my wife and I go at least twice a year during Restaurant Week (when it is a somewhat better value). What I hope they can figure out is how to manage their (likely many) reservations. We were hoping for one of their quieter tables (admittedly very difficult for them to find - the place is very 'energetic' indeed), so we booked an 8:30 table for two. Upon arrival we were told it would be at least 30 minutes before we could be seated. We were not the only ones being told the same story. They did offer us a glass of 'bubbles' to help compensate for the inconvenience but I would prefer they get their arms around how to manage their reservations. It seems they either are miscalculating how many tables they can accommodate or they are seating walk-ins they should make wait... or text me and let me know they are running 30 minutes late (note we were seated at 9:05 so the 30 minute estimate was a good one). With regard to this review and rating... it's all about the operational issue. Again, the food and table service are always very very good.
Very average steaks for very high prices. Lacking flavor majorly. The service was great though.
It was okay. Nothing special but good. More for a scene
Excellent food and service. Great for a special occasion, such as a birthday or wedding anniversary. Best meal and service I have had in a while.
Delicious food and comprehensive wine list. We were very well looked after by our server and the wine director. Stellar service, thanks team!
Staff was very accommodating and attentive. Food was delicious! The NYC Restaurant Week menu was very tasty and allowed me to sample different parts of the menu! Overall a wonderful experience!
I've been to American Cut several times and very much enjoyed the food and the ambience. Today the food was a bit off. The scones/bread were lukewarm and seemed like they were heated from frozen product and the heat had not gone all the way through. I had lamb chops which were good but the jus was a bit salty, one of my guests had the short rib which was just shy of burnt at the edges and very salty. Food was a bit below prior standard. The mac & cheese with mushrooms was great.
Waited 45 minutes to be seated with our 8:15 reservation
Get ready to spend more than you think, 15 years into annual NYC steakhouse night, and this was the most expensive of all the high end NYC steakhouses...
That said, everything was very good. Chili Lobster was excellent. Porterhouse and Tomahawk steals for 2 were a perfect medium rare, although maybe a bit over rested....as they were no longer hot...
Drinks were slow to arrive from the bar, but well made.
Service was good. Spot was lively, good for groups.
Great place to have a comfortable dining experience. The service was outstanding, and the food was well prepared.
We’ve been here before and had a great experience. Not this time. The service and food have deteriorated and for the prices, it’s not worth it.
Fabulous meal and outstanding waiter. My party all said it was the best meal they have had at a restaurant in a long time.
The Food was spectacular, and the service even better! Looking forward to a return trip!
Usually quiet, was actually busy and energetic, good atmosphere. Food and service always solid.
Food was amazing.
