American Bar Restaurant
Obviously it is ideally positioned for a pre-ENO-performance meal, in nice wood-panelled rooms, but that wouldn't help if it was no good. We have been many times, and have always found the menus suitable, the staff efficient and cheerful, the timing geared to the performance, and the food itself always nicely presented and cooked, and sometimes inventive. Recommended.
Dining here makes a lovely experience attached to the opera. The food is very good and the staff extremely helpful.
We enjoyed the American Bar Restaurant very much. The food was great, and the service was excellent. My companion was not the easiest (quite demanding) - so, I appreciate that the staff were responsive and courteous. Just one thing - the restaurant was not nearly fully booked, and yet we were seated next to the entrance to the kitchens. It was fine (and I made the sacrifice, looking toward the kitchen entrance, so that my friend could have the view of the room), but it would have been nice if we had been moved to another, cosier, table. I could have asked, of course!
Perfect place for pre-opera dinner at the London Coliseum. Great food and attentive service. Good value too
Excellent from start to finish a great place to eat if you enjoy a show here too.
A fabulous meal in a very relaxed environment . Extremely courteous and attentive staff. Definitely coming here again!
Went as part of a birthday treat. Excellent place to spend the evening before a performance in the Coliseum. Food good, from a fairly small menu; a bit mitty with the bread, and brought the wrong water. There seemed to be an expectation we’d order side dishes, which would bump the cost up a fair bit. Pleasant front of house team. We’d certainly go again.
Lunch in the American bar is an essential part of any visit to the ENO.
Excellent meal.Good service. Consistent
It's such a treat to visit the American Bar. Amazing food, elegant surroundings and great service. Best of all, pudding at your table during interval! It all makes for a magical visit. Thank you.
Lovely atmosphere, warm welcome, excellent service with good food and wine.
The American Bar is the ideal place for a pre theatre meal. I highly recommend it.
The attention paid by the staff to presenting and delivering the meal was excellent given that it had to fit in with theatre timing. A menu that is changed more frequently would be an added benefit
Nice food and excellent prompt service without being rushed. Lovely room.
Nice restaurant located just under the ENO
Perfect to accommodate a musical evening at the ENO
First visit and enjoyed an excellent meal and service. Have just booked a table again.
We had a lovely meal with our main courses before the performance and our puddings and a drink in the interval. The staff were absolutely charming, helpful and courteous.
Lovely ambiance, relaxing and not noisy. Main courses very good. Dessert disappointing.
Food was delicious and service was very attentive. Would recommend t
Her for a pre-concert meal
Great way to enjoy the opera even more! It makes the whole experience better
Excellent food as always in the American Bar at English National Opera
Thought the steak was a bit tough and gristly but the rest of the meal was very good and very good value for money
Lovely, welcoming staff; very good food (grilled aubergine dish was best ever); good atmosphere. We will definitely come back soon.
The food was fine, if not outstanding and good value, but the wine by the glass (I had the chardonnay) was very poor.
Another cracking pre-opera dinner in the American Bar Restaurant! And another taste from Head Chef Mathieu Archipoff's new Autumn Menu: stuffed pancakes, truffle bechamel, wild mushrooms and toasted hazelnut (scrumptious!); followed by 8oz Sirloin steak , Cafe de Paris butter (brilliant mustard infused butter) with grilled winter vegetables with a side of buttered sugar snaps. Had it not been for the diet, I would have certainly dived into the Pecan pie with rum caramel and vanilla ice cream –– maybe next visit! As always, Mary and the staff secured the experience by their warm welcome and friendly and attentive service. We couldn't have had a more delightful prelude to our journey with Orpheus into Offenbach's Underworld! A great evening!
Great place to eat when attending the opera. Small restaurant in the basement of the theatre. Good food and wine, attentive service, and you get to come back in the interval for coffee!
The vegan option was delicious. Service friendly and efficient.
The new Menu is very exciting and our first taste of what's on offer this season was sensational. Mary and her waiting staff are superb: welcoming and attentive, they are a vital part of what makes the ambience of the American Bar Restaurant so relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable. The ability of everyone – in the kitchen and the restaurant – to turn round a lot of meals in the comparatively short period before curtain-up is nothing short of miraculous. Pre-theatre dinner at the American Bar Restaurant is, for us, a key element in the pleasure we take from coming to the ENO.
We like this place, but one of us ordered a medium rare Serloin steak that was very chewy. When we complained we were told it would have been fine if we had ordered it cooked medium! The rest of the meal was good, but we were disappointed by the response to our complaint.
Service was particularly good, professional and friendly. A soothing preparation for the rehearsal that we we were attending.
Excellent service from all of the waiting staff at the Bar. The food was excellent in comfortable surroundings and with an intimate feel due to the small size of the restaurant. I would highly recommend a meal here before the opera. The only small improvement to be made would be to have all dishes included in the 3 courses for £27 as this meant that vegetarians couldn't have this deal as only meat options were included.
We were encouraged to 'try' the American bar at ENO, having never been before. Very pleasant experience. Food very good, service excellent and a quiet discreet venue.
Tried the restaurant after a dress rehearsal at ENO. Very pleasant experience with good service and general ambiance. Food marked down slightly as herb crust on hake was rather tasteless, I noticed other diners scraping theirs off. Otherwise the food was excellent and we would certainly book again.
Food quality poor. Very disappointed.
Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with us. We very rarely have complaint on our food and a constructive feedback would be welcome. You can contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Alexandre Harnisch, General Manager
A wonderful start to our evening, the staff were outstanding, service was friendly and efficient.
Menu was real value for money.
Loved the fact that you could return for dessert in the interval as this gave a chance to digest the starter and main meal.
Once again thank you to the lovely smiling, friendly staff.
Food and service very good. Great location for a meal before a show starts in the theatre. Dessert and coffee was ready for us at the same table during the interval.
The food we had was lovely and the staff very friendly and professional.
We booked the restaurant as it was in the theatre where we were seeing a show, mainly for the convenience, but it was a delight, the staff were friendly and attentive, the menu choice was excellent and the food delicious, would certainly go again, well worth the trip and the prices cheaper than normal London prices, more like you would pay outside of London, this place is a hidden gem
We ate at the American Bar as we were seeing a show there. The food was very well presented and tasty and the service was excellent. We would have no hesitation in recommending the American Bar.
We booked the American Bar last minute as a surprise for my husband's birthday and emailed ahead to let them know. The staff were amazing, a young Italian gentleman, and a Spanish lady, both of whom were polite, interesting, attentive and a pleasure to be served by!
My husband received a glass of champagne and a birthday card and the food was lovely.
We will be going again!
