America Eats Tavern
Great restaurant - wonderful food with a southern flair.
The wait staff and manager went above and beyond to fix a few dishes that came out cold and a few delayed drinks. Overall a good, casual spot for a solid meal.
My second time here. The food was great! Service great. I will be back!
Love Jose Andres restaurants and America Eats didn’t disappoint. We had oysters as an appetizer and chicken and waffles for our entree. Great service, knowledgeable water, very caring manager. We will definitely go back.
Not what I expected. FOOD was fair and service was underwhelming. My did came to the table cold. The fool was replaced. I WOULD NOT GO BACK.
Other than the improved food, not much seems to have changed from the previous restaurant in this location.
America Eats Tavern is new in the neighborhood, it took over from an iconic BBQ place. The indoors didn't change much, they have good BBQ alternatives plus more on top of that. Food was delicious, there were some issues with service though, food arrived lukewarm to cold-ish, waiter wasn't experienced with wine bottle service. We've spoke to manager about it, he was very interested and helpful, offered a lot to make up for shortcomings. I'm planning to go back after a while when they smoothen things out.
surprisingly good...basic innovative foods without overdone spices and pseudo innovation.
Food had good flavor but ALL of our dishes came cold; very disappointed:(
Dined at America Eats the evening of 12/29. There were major problems in the kitchen with significant delays and lost orders. Once the food arrived, it was totally flavorless and uninspired. From the barbecue brisket and ribs, which were dry and boring, to the trout which was swimming in oil, to the veggies that were over cooked and bland, all were terrible. We actually had to send the spinach back because it tasted foul and spoiled. The only marginally edible dish was the Mac and cheese, but even it lacked flavor. The server kept telling us that the restaurant was new and still working out its “iissues” but it’s been open for over six months in this location and previously existed at other locations. We love Jose Andres, and have been happy diners at Zaytinya for years, but he should be ashamed to have his name associated with this place. The server offered us a free dessert to compensate for the delays, but then failed to return for over 20 minutes to take our order. After the previous delays, we just decided to cut and run. What a waste of money. Worst dining experience in DC in my memory.
Fair food and horrible service. We came at 5pm, and the place was nearly empty. The hostess tried to put us at a high top table with a high chair. When we said that wouldn’t work, we were moved to another table. We waited at least 20 mins for a server to come to our table - and that was only after we asked the manager who would be our server. The party sitting next to us had the same experience. The server was inattentive, and the food was only fair and slow to come out. Very disappointing experience.
We enjoyed eating here. The service was impeccable. But there were several problems with the food. This may have been because we arrived about 11:00 pm and they close at midnight. My wife got the mushroom soup which was well presented, but was not served as warm as it should have been. She also got the scallops which were served on a bed of butternut squash puree. The scallops were fine but the puree was cold. I got the Pimento Cheese Sandwich. I have tried this cheese at several restaurants and concluded that I don't want to try it again, not because of any problems with this version but in general. We got the Martha Washington Chocolate cake. The cake itself could have been moister, but the other elements of the dessert were top notch. Our server was Shea who was personable and very efficient. As we were leaving, I mentioned that American Eats Tavern was the second restaurant we ate at that day where we were the last customers to leave. Shea said: "You're not customers here, you're guests." His service and this comment will ensure we will be back. I also mentioned that when you have a hero in your community, like Jose Andres, and he has businesses, one way to pay him back is to come to his businesses and spend your money.
Wonderful place for a family get-together! We brought guests from out of town, and they loved it.
Family of 6, stopping in after a long day of being tourists. Great restaurant!
Menu was more basic than anticipated but good (pulled pork sandwich and half-smoke; great chocolate cake). Very loud and crowded. Only table available upon arrival (even with reservation) was a high top on main level right in path of wait staff and customers streaming by. Fortunately two stools opened up at the bar and we scooted over to claim them. Eating at the bar was very enjoyable; bar manager and two servers were extremely personable and competent. Praising it for reliable basic food for Georgetown which I believe to be woefully inadequate in the restaurant department.
We happened to be in Georgetown and decided to try this restaurant because we love José Andres and all of his charitable efforts. We enjoyed the chicken and waffles for brunch. It’s a casual restaurant with good food.
Excellent service. Knowledgeable wait staff.
Wedge salad is anything but! Horrible combo of capers, green beans, spinach and iceberg slathered with 1000 island dressing - truly yuck!
A medium rare Burger came out rubbery tough.
Not going bsck
Excellent t mushroom soup and chicken pot pie. All American classics done well
We enjoyed the original America Eats near the Ford theatre and it was one of our favorite of Jose Andreas restaurants. Hence we were very excited to come here. But it was a great disappointment. The place lacked the creativity, imagination and execution that we’ve come to expect of Jose Andreas.
Service was a little spottier than in previous times I've been. One dish was missing a side and the side ordered with the burger didn't come out until the burger was done. The food was pretty good but marred by service issues.
The service was incredibly slow - it took at least ten minutes to get an iced tea and then
I had to ask twice to get some sugar, which took another 10 minutes to arrive.
Outstanding. Came right in my pants as I was consuming the hushpuppies. That was just the appetizer, too.
Great barbecued ribs. Nice Smokey flavor. I also like the oysters. Bet selection is good if small
AMAZING FOOD! The bbq, the hush puppies, the oysters, the ribs, he brisket and the brussel sprouts were all top notch. Especially the brussel sprouts! I don’t normally like sprouts but these were delicious, I couldn’t get enough!!! The service was also outstanding! I wish i could remember my waiters name cause he was great! I definitely recommend this place!
Food was good. Not great, just good.
I like the concept: traditional regional food. Everything our table ordered was delicious if not always authentic. So dinner here is a sure bet. We got attentive, pleasant service, which made the evening very satisfying. The music was too loud for us, but when we asked, it was turned down. Tables are far enough apart that others' conversations didn't interfere with ours.
Waiter was excellent. Food was good.
They had us at mulled cider and hush puppies! There were so many entrees I wanted to try so I'll be making a trip back! We were so stuffed but we ordered the cheesecake anyway. And oh how we were rewarded.
The okra and yogurt side was outstanding! The other food ranged from good to very good. Only complaint was the taste of the house made ketchup. Just not for me.
our meals came out below room temperature, and really lacked flavor.
Service was good to begin with, then tapered off. Took forever for drinks to arrive or offer of refill once they were empty. The biggest disappoint was the temperature of the food. Hush puppies were cold, as were the fries, burger and shrimp and grits. Taste was decent m but would have been better hot. Not sure if it was the servers fault for letting food sit too long before bringing it to our table or lack of heat lamps for the food.
The service was spot on. Servers were knowledgeable and friendly. The food was DELICIOUS! Best fried chicken I have ever eaten. The grits are phenomenal. Great drinks. I will crave that fried chicken.
food was good, but not special
if you are going to be in the BBQ market you should set the standard via Kansas City BBQ restaurants
beer menu was small
was a little bit pricey for the fairly simple menu
This location is more central but the original Tyrson's Corner restaurant was better in terms of food prep and menu selection. Here, some dishes were great (e.g., the hush puppies were amazing) but the rest were ok. The addition of live music nights should be an added feature but unfortunately it started after I visited the restaurant.
Food, service and drinks were great. Very fun restaurant
Absolutely the best shrimp and grits I’ve ever had! Amazing craft cocktails and unusual, delicious wines. Great, friendly service. A place to return to again and again!
We went to this restaurant for the first time because this was one of the places Open Table recommended to use the rewards. The manager did not know how to process the debit card image and gave us an unpleasant time when he received an error upon entering the number from the reward card debit image (apparently because he entered the wrong amount). We will never go back to the restaurant, though Open Table could have avoided this by better instructing restaurants how to process its reward debit cards. Open Table users shouldn’t be treated like dead beats when using rewards earned from Open Table at an Open Table restaurant.
We love Jose Andres and return to his restaurants often. With that said - we likely will just get take away from here rather than come back for a dine in experience. The barbecue is awesome and we loved the mac/cheese, brussels sprouts, grits, grilled shrimp and hush puppies. The disappointment was the wine list. We were a large group and asked to taste a few that were available by glass so we could decide what bottle to order. We picked the least disappointing. The wine list as a whole could use some retooling. Our server was a young woman. She was generally fine and accommodating. The one really annoying thing she kept doing was attempt to clear our plates while we were actively eating and reaching for food etc. Please don't ask folks if they are still working on food - while they are obviously eating. We hope they take note of these suggestions.
