Food was exceptional, but they way over charged me for a drink - $16.50 for a maker’s mark and ginger ale!! And the server didn’t check on our table very often. Was slow to bring drinks/water. Overall though, was tasty and would go again.
Burger and Ribs were exceptional. Unique cocktails. Attentive service. Great value. Fun college town vibe.
great food! tavern like setting made it comfortable and fun. servers were attentive and friendly. would definitely recommend and will go again
Brisket was really good, ribs ok, crab cakes so-so. The sliding door to the toilet opened on to the tables and was a definite no-no. Do NOT be seated near the kitchen. Not the Jose Andres experience I was expecting.
Good food and it was good service. Noise level was high but did not take away from the experience.
Cornbread and homemade pickles were excellent! BBQ ribs and beans did not have much flavor. Really expected a big BBQ flavor and was disappointed
We were greeted by the host and he confirmed we were celebrating a birthday. However, there was no mention of the celebration by our server. We did decline dessert as we were ready to leave due to be experience outlined below.
I ordered a club soda and upon pouring it in the glass of ice my son noticed a lipstick mark on the rim of the glass.
The server gladly brought a new drink and I chose to drink it out the bottle.
The entree I ordered was only mediocre and not what I anticipated from a Jose Andres restaurant.
The service at the end of the meal was slow; however the restaurant did become crowded.
My husband ordered a starter of soup which was brought out at the same time as the entrees. It was gazpacho which would seem to need little preparation.
They did a good job of identifying food allergy options and allowing substitution although I don’t know if there was an up-charge to do so.
The hushpuppies were the best part of the meal.
Excellent BBQ and cocktails.
Service was horrible...Food seemed rushed to be made but took forever to have it served. The absolute worse food I’ve ever had in DC on my many business trips.
Not really. The food was okay but not many healthy options as food back in history was made with a different focus. Also, wines were lacking because only American wine was served. Cute concept but doesn’t translate to today’s America.
Rather disappointing overall, mostly because of the service
Food was absolutely amazing! The service was friendly and on point. We sat near the front entrance so not sure how the upper level is, but I highly recommend it.
Cozy cozy, yum yum in tummy, no dinosaurs were harmed during the making of our meal.
Food and service was pretty good. I was a little disappointed that they no longer have oysters on the menu
A few meals came out very dry - half chicken and pork BBQ - and the half chicken came out maybe 10 min after everything else was delivered which was also strange. Our server, Jonathan, was excellent and helped us quite a bit. We had a party of 8.
My friend and I met up for dinner here for the first time and really enjoyed it. I had the beet-l-juice mock-tail and loved it. For dinner I got the cornbread appetizer and the grilled pimiento cheese sandwich. He got the popcorn cauliflower, salmon, and the chilled corn soup. All was amazing and I will definitely be going back again.
The service was awesome. They even noticed that I had a note as a vegetarian on my open table account and brought me a menu showing all of the veggie options - and there were many.
I wish I had saved room for dessert. Maybe next time.
Really slow service given the amount of people in the restaurant. Food was just ok.
Smallish portions, waitress kept bugging us to be finished, food was very tasty but came out too quickly not giving us time to talk.
Some of the tastiest barbecue executions ever to cross my lips....
Besides the good food and the fun menu (very fun for out of town guests!), I can't say enough about the service. I have been to the Tavern several times and always found the staff very attentive and super friendly. Even on a very busy evening, even when I know the staff is really hustling to take care of everyone, I never feel rushed or unattended to. I would have given "service" six stars if I could. The food is great, for sure, but for me I'm a repeat customer because of the staff. Keep up the good work! See you soon!!
Our cocktails were all made incorrectly and had to be sent back only to find out they are lacking certain bar ingredients. The food was excessively salty. Should have sent back the shrimp and grits and fried okra but it wasn’t worth the wait. Way too salty. The menu is interesting. Steak tartar was well prepared. Baby backs were just ok. No one at the table liked their house barbecue sauce.
Fun pre movie dinner for our family of four. Service was exceptional - a rarity in DC. Food was very good although my portion of the bbq sausages was really small and left me hungry for more even with the multiple sides we also had ordered. We will be back!
Our experience at America Eats started so well and then went downhill. Our dinners arrived but not the sides we ordered. I found the server and told him about the lack of sides, he apologized and came back a minute later and sides would be out in 2 minutes. We were all on our last bites of our meals when I asked the hostess to please cancel the sides - had to ask her because I couldn't find the server. The food was OK - not as inspired as it sounded on the menu. My cocktail (Boulevardier) had way too much bitters in it. Basically not a great experience.
I had a very average at best meal.
Interesting menu based on old American recipes. Good sized portions, somewhat inconsistent - fish & chips was excellent but fried chicken breading was almost burnt. Service slow, especially with getting cocktails.
Great food, great service. Best, most enjoyable brunch I’ve had in a long time.
It was so delicious and my server was outstanding! The bartender also makes the best Kentucky mules!!
Very different from Jose's other restaurants in this town. Hearty American food. Tuesday night in August so things were relaxed. We had a great dinner with friends we hadn't seen in years and nobody tried to rush us out even though we kept our table for over 3 hours.
It was fine. Not my favorite of Jose Andres
Our group of 8 had a satisfying lunch. Food choices were excellent. Some had pulled pork bbq, brisket, fried okra, and the French fries were yummy..... crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And the cheese grits were the best I have had.
Celebrar mi cumpleaños fuera de España... quería un lugar típico y comida americana ... Vi los comentarios de los restaurantes de José Andrés y no lo dudé!!!
Went here for dinner with kids. We had a great time Karen was our server and she was accommodating. Food was great we had the short rib rice bowl. And a Caesar salad. My kids had grilled cheesE and a cheese pizza. The manager do stop by to check on us and offered the kids Ice pop. He walks was very nice and attentive. Next time we go to dc we will head back for dinner and drinks
Great food experience. Service was perfect with fun food and beverages!
We have eaten at many José Andres restaurants and were excited to try this one. However, the service was achingly slow and the burgers were not great—there was about 4x as much bun to burger. We had to wait for everything. Wait for water—which was not kept filled. Waited 20?? minutes for drink order to arrive. They were not busy, this just seems to be how service was designed to be. And then when the food arrived, it was disappointing. It was also expensive for what you get. The fries were good. Everything else—burgers, brisket, were meh
Food and service was excellent.
I wish there had been a greater selection for brunch as well Not a great choice for a vegetarian
Very quiet for the 10 o’clock spot for brunch which was wonderful
As per usual, the food here is expertly prepared. Loved the new flank steak on the menu. Service was friendly but a little slow. The hush puppies are always a favorite. This is definitely one of my go to restaurants when I have friends or family in town. It's casual and fun here, not at all pretentious.
Great food for a great price, everything we had was delicious and the service was excellent. Will definitely be coming back.
Took some out of town guests here for lunch and they loved it. Great food and service!
The restaurant has a fun vibe, and the service was good. However, the food at America Eats did not live up to the hype or to what one has come to expect from chef Jose Andres and his team, the meat (a flank steak) was tough, and the Baby Back Ribs were dry. The saving grace was the cornbread and the chicken wings. But all in all, I don't think I will be making my way back there or recommending it to anyone, there are far superior BBQ places in DC.
Overall, it was good but not blown away. Food was good, service was okay.
