Chef Jose Contreras has been named a 2025 James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: Southwest (AZ, NM, NV, OK). Named after his grandmother, Amelia, Chef Contreras brings family traditions to life with dishes like enchiladas, chilaquiles, quesabirria, molcajetes and tamales. With two locations in Tucson. Our signature dish "Amelia's Molcajete" is widely known in Tucson as one of the best.
We received several rewards for our food, the latest was 1st and 2nd place in best salsa & 1rd. place for best taco .

The menu is quite large and has many good options. My fajitas looked and were amazing. Chimichangas huge and flavorable. Too many flies by the front window. Very noisy, at lunchtime. Our waitress could have been more enjoyable, while serving us. Despite all of this, I would return.

First and foremost, hands down the best Mexican food restaurant in Tucson. I know there’s many categories when reviewing restaurants, but let’s get real. What’s the most important aspect of any restaurant? All other aspects can be overlooked like ambiance and whatnot, but if the food is not good the rest is mute. This place won’t disappoint. I know it’s been said about a lot of restaurants in this town but, you will just have to see for yourself. The end.

The food -- wonderful! Fresh with balanced, bold flavors. The street tacos were excellent and a great way to sample three different taco combinations -- pastor, birria, chicken habanero -- all excellent choices. We watched a lot of plates passing by to other diners, all the food looked like something we should order next time. This is a small restaurant, cozy and eclectic. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive. We definitely will visit Amelia's Mexican Kitchen again.

I lived the good the service our server. The only problem I have is being charged 1.25 for asking sour cream not be on our chimichangas. The guacamole was off to the dude as the sour cream shoujd have been. I asked for no sour cream which saved them money Yet they charged me 1.25 cents. It’s a shame. If you are going to charge extra money I shoujd have been notified I was not.

Even though we always go on Taco Tuesday, we rarely order the special tacos. It's still okay because all their food is amazing! For whatever reason we always get seated near the kitchen at a corner table. It's now "our" table!
