Great food, very reasonable price, excellent service. All conspire to make Ambrosia a perfect place to dine. Welcome to the neighborhood. We hope you’re here a very long time, we’ll be back!
We had a fabulous Father’s Day dinner at Ambrosia. We started with the octopus, arugula salad, and burrata. All were delicious! Entrees included the branzino (special of the night), pasta special, brown butter ravioli and scallops. We cleaned our plates and had just enough room for dessert. Will certainly return!
Delicious food, and great service!
Owners have done a splendid job converting a neighborhood luncheonette into a charming trattoria. Service attentive, small but interesting menu, BYOB. Pastas delicious, as were grilled octopus and arugula salad. This one should be a winner in our neighborhood.
Noel was an incredibly gracious host. The food is creative and delicious! The scallop crudo was heaven, each bite being citrusy and herbaceous. The added little crunch of radish was perfection. The calamari was a savory, tender dish with just the right touch of heat from the chili. I had the lamb chop special which was a generous portion (4 chops) over a bed of eggplant caponata that was mouthwateringly yummy! Dessert was a scrumptious berry panna cotta. We are thrilled to have such a welcome addition to our neighborhood. We look forward to returning soon to explore the rest of their appealing menu choices!
Food is carefully prepared, fish dishes are excellent and their octopus is better than Estia's.
Absolutely spectacular experience. The food was divine and the environment and service perfection.
Really good food! Byob. Not much more you can ask for.
This was my first visit to this new, neighborhood Italian venue that is literally across the street from my building here in Fitler Square. I went with three younger friends after work just for a get together and we were all totally blown away with every dish that was served! For appetizers, we had calamari, grilled octopus, artichoke bruschetta and shishito peppers - all were delicious and amazing. The octopus was my favorite. The homemade pasta dishes were of the same caliber, but the papardelle short rib ragu was to die for and everyone's favorite. I will absolutely be back again very soon and again and again. This is a neighborhood gem that I just hope continues to have the same character for a long time. Oh yes, it's BYOB which adds another complete layer of desirability.
Amazing little gem. The food was delicious and the service spot on!
Great neighborhood restaurant - pasta special (spaghetti with fresh crab meat with cockle clams and lemon sauce) was delicious. Service was very attentive.
Tried Ambrosia for the first time and understand why it already feels like that great neighborhood place where you will always enjoy yourself. Staff is warm and engaging but doesn’t hover or hurry you along. Our food was consistently delicious - especially the crispy gnocchi! - and servings generous. We had the daily oysters - fresh, sweet, plump Blue Points - and the artichoke toast. The toast was very flavorful and overloaded (in a good way) with super flavorful veggies. YUM! For entrees we had the boar on house made tagliatelle (having leftovers for dinner tonight!), Chicken Milanese and mussels in saffron broth. With the exception of the mussels, which, while sweet, plump, and perfectly cooked, needed a little salt, everything was piping hot, delicious and beautifully presented. Sad we ordered too much for dinner so no room for dessert. All the more reason to come back soon! While I was sorry to see Sandy’s go, if it had to, Ambrosia is the best possible replacement!
will go there often.. a great find... food is delicious - service great... and a real addition to the neighborhood
The food was amazing. Definitely recommend and buratta, scallops and pork belly, and pistachio panda cotta. The ambience was lovely when they’re less busy but when it got full, the noise level was a bit too loud. Overall a great BYOB edition to the Fitler Square area!
Terrific food and very good service.
Excellent food. Great service. The only downside is the noise level. We went on the Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend and it was hard for me to have a conversation with my husband who was sitting 2 feet away from me across the table. I would love to go back on a less crowded evening.
Excellent octopus - and swordfish. Great new spot - the only difficulty is the noise level - you just have to lean in. Loved Sandy’s and will miss it - but this is an unexpected good addition to the neighborhood.
Best new Italian style restaurant of the four that recently opened and the several that have been around. Other menu items stretch the “Italian” concept to satisfy other tastes.
We went last Thursday with My Girlfriend and her sound and really loved it! The wait staff was excellent, we met one of the owner’s; George who was an awesome guy.
He let us know his background and place inside Reading Terminal, and his plans for this little gem. I’m looking forward to lunch or brunch when they are ready to open for that also. We loved our dishes, service and reasonable cost!
Wowwww!!!! This place was AMAZING!!! From start to finish! The staff was warm and welcoming as soon as we step foot inside. They even accommodated us by moving our seats closer to the window, so we could have a nice breeze from outside. We started with the Grilled Artichoke hearts (which were cooked perfectly and delicious) then moved onto the Short Rib and squid ink hand made tagliatelle pasta! The short rib falls to pieces with a spoon. It was as soft as butter and the flavors were outstanding! It paired perfectly with the seasoned polenta and a nice glass of red Zinfandel. My fiancé LOVES seafood but commented that the pasta was so good, he wanted to eat everything separate so he could truly enjoy the flavor profiles. We topped off our dinner with the Tiramisu and basically licked the plate. This place has only been open for about a month so I hope they keep up the good work and we will for sure to be dining here again!
Everything was wonderful, but it was too loud for us old farts. They claim they are going to address the noise issue.
The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food was carefully prepared and delicious. The chef was very careful about the ingredients used in preparing my dinner since I have multiple food allergies. Noise level was a little high, but overall a very pleasant dining experience.
Terrific little BYO near Fitler Square neighborhood in Center City Philadelphia. We went twice in three weeks, the food was superb both times for everyone in our parties. Service was attentive but unobtrusive. I had the Bolognese pasta and burrata appetizer both times - they were that good. It's a small restaurant but the noise level is reasonable. I definitely plan to return as soon as I can. One cautionary note: parking is a little tricky in that neighborhood so leave a little extra time as you may need to cruise a bit to find a space on the street. Well worth the effort, though.
Great new neighborhood restaurant. Food was tasty and prepared as we requested. Prices were fare for the quality of the dishes. We will definitely return.
Disappointingly ordinary but well intentioned service.
Wonderful food and service! Second time dining here and it did not disappoint . Will be back again soon! The crispy gnocchi is delish! As well as all the pastas! Steak was phenomenal as well.
I liked everything about Ambrosia except the noise. We had trouble having a conversation.
Excited for a new place in the neighborhood. Did not disappoint! Food was delicious. Service very good and friendly. My husband and I will be regulars!
Excellent food with generous portions, excellent service with thoughtful, knowledgeable people, BYO, and a menu with good variety of options are the pros. The negatives are the noise level, the cramped space bc, in my opinion, there's 1 or 2 more tables than should be there, and a slightly higher price point than I think is right for this location style and menu are the cons. That said, I'll definitely go back and definitely recommend it to friends.
What a gem! This place opened 3 weeks ago and I cannot wait to go back. I went with a group of 5 other people. We shared a couple different appetizers (salmon belly, octopus and burrata) and everything was absolutely delicious. For entrees, we had monkfish, scallops, NY strip, crispy gnocchi and ravioli. Again, everyone devoured their food so I’d say it was tasty! The service was incredible as well. My only negative is that the restaurant became quite loud once all the tables were occupied. I think this could be improved by incorporating some kind of fabric into the decorations. But overall, I highly recommend checking out this new BYOB!!
After reading reviews we were expecting a tight, loud, mediocre neighborhood restaurant. We were so impressed with the food and service, and they made quite a nice restaurant out of the old Sandy’s diner. The noise level was energetic but no more than any other similar establishments. The grilled artichoke was an excellent dish, much like a bruschetta w artichoke. The BAKED gnocchi were light and tasty, the monkfish was good, and the pistachio panna cotta was the highlight. We will definitely return
Amazing food! We love every dish we tried.
Wonderful- but noise level just got to loud!!
Our 3rd time. Food and service are fantastic. Great job.
Good service, delicious food. A very gourmet experience.
They are still working out the kinks of a new restaurant and were overwhelmed easily. We will not be dining here again. Res Ispa is significantly better, around the corner, and at the same price point.
- Seated 30mins late: 830 reservation for 2 and seated at 900 after a couple with an 845 reservation
- Allowed people to drink outside while waiting
- Hostess was rude and did not answer any questions
- Octopus was slimy and no texture, sauce was uninspired, char was bitter due to too high of heat, probably due to rushing
- Fried gnocchi was undercooked, essentially one glob. Mushy and no crisp from fry pan
- Squid pasta was overcooked and lacked flavor
- Service was good
- Super loud when busy, inconvenient layout
It is without a doubt an amazing restaurant, absolutely delicious food, beautiful ambiance, great service top notch Italian cuisine, would recommend to everyone.
A must try restaurant
Just returned home from the most enjoyable meal out with my girlfriends. From the moment we arrived the staff was attentive, and the space perfect for our girls night out. We started the meal with three appetizers, and omg they were spectacular. The main course didn’t disappoint either; I had the salmon and my friend the gnocchi. We finished off the night with dessert, and the remainder of our bottle of wine. Bonus being a BYOB. Can’t wait to return.
Great new addition to the area. The Papardelle and Monkfish were delicious and reasonably priced. The "Grilled Artichokes" starter was more like a bruschetta topped with roasted red peppers and marinated artichokes, and was tasty but somewhat small for the price.
Overall, the food was great and the service was very attentive. The biggest negative was the noise level as the restaurant got more crowded throughout the night. I'm excited for them to add outdoor seating in the future. Will definitely be back!
We went back for a 2nd time and again, the food was amazing. However, the noise level is almost unbearable, so much so that it’s virtually impossible to have a conversation.
