Ambra - Philadelphia
Wonderful, intimate, phenomenal food and wine pairings. Cost may be prohibitive for some, but otherwise it’s really special.
Excellent all around, service impeccable and food creative and amazingly delicious.
A special and intimate dining experience. My husband and I went for Valentine’s Day and enjoyed a six course tasting. The food is delicious and presentation is stunning. The restaurant is small which makes the experience very intimate, which we enjoyed, however, the service was lacking. We expected to be WOWed by the service and staff, especially because of the high quality food and price you pay to dine there. However, this was not the case. There were no smiles, no warm welcoming and when the staff would speak about each dish it was as if they did not want to talk about any of the food. Perhaps it was an off-night on the service, but we did really enjoy the food!
We enjoyed a Valentine’s weekend dinner here. Delicious food and wine in a quiet setting. Could not have asked for a better meal. Our favorite course was the beef crudo served in a narrow bone; our least favorite was the pork which was fattier than what I typically like.
We hope to return again for another special occasion.
Phenomenal
Not great, the menu was not inspiring. We’ve been to ambra maybe 10 times (try to go once a season as the menu changes and/or work in a date night), the food is prepared well and each course was decent standing on its own... But I felt like this menu all we had was seafood and white wine (wine pairing)..then I get to entre ready for something to blow my socks off and you give me pork! Meh!
This is the last time I will be dining at ambra unfortunately. There are too many good restaurants in philly where we leave completely happy and satisfied in every aspect of the dining experience..top to bottom, left to right, and all the other fun ways.
Among the best Philadelphia restaurants - though the tasting could benefit from greater pacing and an end-of-meal treat (WILL BYOB did Madeleine's, Eleven Madison Park does granola, Vespertine does a custom perfume, etc.). Other than these two comments, Ambra is a spectacular experience worth revisiting at least twice. Run to Ambra.
Wonderful experience. Delicious food. Highly recommend
Our last prix fixe meal was at Vetri Cucina. That was good but so expensive! Ambra’s food and service were excellent and easily on par with Vetri yet less than half the price. Each course was its own treat of amazing flavors. The wines were interesting we tried several that were outstanding especially one from Austria. Service was attentive but not formal. We loved it.
Best kept secret in Philadelphia. Outstanding value for a pre fixe. Half the price of Vetri. Imaginative dishes, just the right size, and the wine pairing is perfect. Upbeat music, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Timing was perfect, not rushed.
Wonderful chef tasting
Creative and delicious
I am a pescatarian and they accommodated my dietary preference.
This is a wonderful dining experience for foodies
Wonderful ambiance and very attentive wait staff. The food was as fine as I have ever had and maybe better
Great food, interesting wine pairings and knowledgeable staff. Overall a great experience.
Absolutely delicious every time, such unique and creative combinations we would never think of.
Loved the wine pairings. Service was on point. Enjoyed every course.
Best restaurant in Philadelphia.
Ambra is the best fine dining experience in the city.
Food was great. One of the better tasting menus in the city. Wine pairing was average nothing intolerable but nothing extraordinary. Service was perfect not too stuffy but respectful to the food and experience given the price point. Can't wait to go back.
Lovely thanks again
Great flavor. New and inventive menu with a clever combination of flavors and textures, plus great wines. Will go back. Can’t wait to experience the next menu. The place has a classy urban edge to it, but isn’t pretentious. Staff is nice and helpful. Only negative is the restaurant is dark. Could barely see the food.
First off, beautiful experience, exceptional service. Great space for a restaurant for a 16 seat restaurant, yet when the meal was done we felt something was lacking. There seemed to be more attention on presentation and plating than on sating your pallet. We did the complete food and wine paring experience yet one of us in the group did not and got a saw a significant disparity in the pouring per glass vs pairing. Flavors were excellent but did not "wow" us for the price, we left wanting something more.
Sumptuous yet delicate flavors, gorgeous presentations, attentive, informative, and personable wait staff.
Really appreciated the portion sizes, which satisfied but allowed us to get through the entire dinner. Inspired wine pairings made it all the more fun. A worthwhile splurge.
Simply said, we expected more.
Wonderful experience all around. Food was fantastic and the service was impeccable.
Ambra is spectacular and new, each time we go. We are always left completely full but wanting to come back again for more. Our favorite date spot.
A lovely place to go for a special occasion. Would highly recommend the wine pairings.
Ultra-gracious service, outstanding food, excellent wine pairing with the tasting menu. Pleasantly quiet, too. There's a parking lot half a block away (which is a good thing since on-street parking is pretty hopeless). Outstanding on all counts!
Amazing culinary experience! This was our third time at Ambra and it was excellent every single time!
What a decadent experience without being stuffy at all. From the food to the service, the whole meal was such a delight! Go for the wine pairing- each selection played so well with every bite of food!
Ambra continues to be an amazing dining experience. The chef always creates an inventive tasting menu that changes each time we come. Not to be missed!
My husband and I have been to Ambra several times and we have enjoyed our experiences each time. The food is artistic in its presentation and is also delicious. The service is exceptional without being overly intrusive. The price may seem high, but in my opinion, is reasonable for the quality of the food and the service.
The exceptional quiet and relaxing ambiance of the restaurant make it an amazing place to dine. This place is a gem!
Amazing! One of the best all around tasting menus in the city.
Just dined at Ambra and once again the food and service were spectacular. I agree with many of the other reviewers that the food is on par with the best restaurants in the city (Laurel, Vernick, Volver). The squid ink spaghetti with crab was spectacular as was the peking duck with a fresh corn polenta. But it is getting a bit pricey at $92.00. And the wine list while remaining interesting has very few selections that are less than $100.00. Quite a few over $200. This is a departure from past visits and may explain why the restaurant was less than half full. I will continue to go, although a bit less frequently, and I am seriously considering going down to my wine cellar, bringing my own and paying the $50 corkage.
Went for the dueling sommeliers and it was such a cool experience. Will be back.
Excellent, cosy restaurant. Value was tremendous, service was outstanding and wine list was gorgeous and fair
Absolutely fantastic! We're going back in two weeks.
exquisite dining experience. rivals michelin star restaurants in terms of creativity, quality, presentaiton and experience. truly a special meal.
We had an amazing time and loved our meal. Staff is friendly and professional, food was delicious and original. We already booked for the next menu! A must try and truly one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia.
A very special little place. Decor is casual but so well done and beautifully appointed. Food was so interesting and not the run of the mill. One of the courses was not to my liking so they made me something else that was outstanding. There were 8 little courses. The finale dessert was a show stopper . High drama. Don't want to ruin it for anyone else so I won't tell you about the spectacular presentation. Was Show Biz! Loved it!!
Ambra is magical. We absolutely loved our meal, no options, tasting menu only, be prepared to eat! Service is professional without being stuffy. Can’t wait to go back.
