We offer a variety of electric and exotic ingredients from different areas of the world, masterfully and aesthetically presented.
Due to the complexity of the menu, we ask that advance notice of any food allergies or dietary restrictions be provided when making reservations.
Ambience is located at the beautiful downtown of Los Altos.
We are also available for private small banquet parties, or entire restaurant buy-out events.
Unique food, great service. Definitely will be returning
Really did not enjoy my experience. We came here for a couples night out, and the service was bad and food was lackluster. For a place that's called ambience, it may have been one of the worst ambience in a restaurant that I've ever experienced.
Valentine day Special prefix menu for $195.00 ++ the was good the portions was small especially the entree was really small. It was size of one bite if you can imagine it.
Service from Mack was excellent. Very knowledgeable about the food served as well as the various wines with the wine pairings. For the most part, the food was solid. The lobster dish was my favorite savory course, but my favorite course overall was probably the chocolate dessert. I will admit I was not a huge fan of the ostrich. Given the unusual nature of the fowl Course, I admit I would’ve preferred a more mainstream subsequent meat course rather than elk, perhaps beef or lamb. The series of amuse bouches were all quite nice. One thing that I missed was some element of textural contrast. Everything served was a bit soft, with no crunch to any dish as a contrast. The plating and presentation was outstanding, among the best I have seen.
We went there for a romantic evening and a special night out. The experience was phenomenal. There were 10 or more different dishes, and paired with wine. The dishes were beautifully and thoughtfully constructed. We started with 3-4 fish/seafood dishes paired with white wines, and went on to 2-3 meat dishes paired with red, and ended with desserts (a choice between passion fruit or chocolate). Each dish had a richness of different flavors that complemented each other perfectly. My favorite was the lobster bisque - buttery, fresh and succulent. The dishes displayed flavors of the east (bonito, yuzu and vinegar) and flavors of the west (red wine reduction, bone marrow). Every dish was amazing, demonstrating the chef's understanding of how to utilize each ingredient flawlessly. The service was excellent. Our sommelier was very knowledgeable about each wine and gave spot-on descriptions, and the reason for the pairing. We would highly recommend this place, and would go back in a heart beat.
This has become our splurge restaurant of choice because of the outstanding tasting menu and great wine pairing in a quiet peaceful environment. Our combination maitre d', sommelier, and waiter, was very knowledgeable about each course and the wines paired with each course. It was well worth the price for a leisurely, tasty and beautiful meal.
A wonderful place to celebrate any special occasion with your favorite foodie! The service is very welcoming and professional. We have dined all over the bay and we love it here! This place should have a Michelin star!
Excellent dinner and great atmosphere. I almost hesitate to reveal such a great place since it was such a private dinner. Great tasting menu and beautiful presentation.
Food and wine pairing were excellent!
Not my first visit at ambience but just as amazing. The chef knows what he is doing and executes everytime. Being a local at the Silicon Valley area it is nice to know that there is a restaurant that really knows how to feature key ingredients and beautiful presentations. It is difficult to say what my favorite course is, each are unique in its own way. Try Ambience for yourself and you won't be disappointed.
Everything was absolutely wonderful and special. Chef’s Mrs was the most delightful hostess who also served us with our gracious other server Ed. They both made our special date (me and my son) most treasured and very personal. Thank you so much for a most memorable evening we will forever cherish!
Another wonderful experience at Ambience. The menu changes every time we visit. Best dishes of the night were the lobster, elk, and black cod.
An absolutely delightful dining experience. The pacing and portions were spot on, the staff was attentive and knowledgeable, and the decor was elegant and tasteful. Each dish was beautifully constructed in both presentation and flavor, with the premium wine pairings adding an entirely new dimension.
The evening as a whole was one whimsical journey of the palate -- we meandered between bites of scallops three-ways, contemplated the fusion of new-old/east-west in the sea urchin jelly, experienced guilty bliss from the Maine lobster tail, and had our taste buds elevated by the elk tenderloin cooked to perfection. Our adventure culminated with hand-crafted, gravity-defying desserts.
Highly recommended place to celebrate -- or create -- a special occasion.
A great pleasure that we had an amazing experience at Ambience.
Went here for our anniversary, excellent food, every course of tasting menu were interesting and had full of flavors. We specially enjoyed their hydrated Mount Lassen trout with citrus heirloom tomato consume.
Dinner was paced in perfect timing. The premium wine pairings were impeccable, the wait staff was very knowledgeable and attentive.
Highly recommended for special night out.
We couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Tasting menu was exciting and beautifully presented. If you want to impress a foodie or someone special, Ambience will definitely do that. Staff was very polite and professional and the dining room was comfortable. We will be returning soon.
Outstanding 10 course tasting menu with friendly and impeccable service.
its hard to name a favorite dish but from amuse bouche, fish, lobster, meats and sweets, all were creative, beautiful and delicious. The variety of wines paired with the courses were a delight.
Loved everything,, a very special experience, can't wait to go back!
We had an amazing evening celebrating our 20th anniversary.
The food and service were excellent. The exquisite culinary dishes exceeded our expectations.
The tasting menu was a delight, the quality of the food, the presentation, amazing display of creating and flavors, the pace of each course, with the wine pairings were phenomenal.
The service was very attentive and professional.
It's a special occasion place, truly an exceptional experience that we would remember for a long time.
While the service and the ambience were both very pleasant, the food was overwrought, overbland and overpriced. The exception was the lobster dish—that was excellent.
Wonderful culinary experience all around!
Lots of temperature and technical food issues. Not worth the price tag.
Enjoyed my recent visit to this lovely restaurant located in the heart of Los Altos. They serve an exquisite tasting menu that includes seared ostrich, scallops that is prepared and served three different ways. With each bite it exemplifies the creativity of the chef who in my opinion should be rated as michelin star chef. The restaurant itself is lovely, with an ambience to it that is truly welcoming and enchanted. The experience is truly unimaginable from the way each dish is prepared and served and to the remarkable staff that explains what each dish represents and the ingredients that come along with. Furthermore, the wine list is wonderful and a definite must try when it comes pairing it with each dish. Ambience, to me is one of the best restaurants that I have visited and will continue to do so.
A unique experience!
We were celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary at Ambience .
The service and food were exceptional. We had been recommended to Ambience from our friend. Now definitely our favorite restaurant. It is simply fabulous!
Made a reservation to celebrate my wife's birthday on a Saturday night. We arrived 10 minutes early and there were plenty of parking across the street. We had the tasting menu without wine pairing, and the meal took roughly an hour and a half for 12 courses.
If there's one takeaway from this review, it's that overall, the food was really good. The first 3 or so courses (amuse bouche) lacked flavor, but everything that came after was delicious. Ingredients were fresh and had nice presentation. Some items on our menu were sea urchin, lobster, ostrich, elk, oyster, and black cod.
Overall the service was good. Staff were friendly and helpful in explaining what each dish was, and the best order to experience courses that had multiple components.
I do want to note that we were the only ones in the restaurant during our meal, which didn't bother us at all, but for those that likes crowds and livelier environments may want to look elsewhere.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you are mainly looking to try some good food.
Intimate dining. Innovative cuisine. Set menu with numerous small courses. A splurge on our anniversary. Would highly recommend for a special culinary experience.
Everything was spectacular! Unique dishes, first class presentation. Fine wine, and spot on pacing. The chef is an artisan, plain and simple. Will recommend to any of my friends and acquaintances, looking for a that special place, for that special occasion.
One more time Ambience tasting menu and service exceeded our expectations. From the starting amuse bouche through out our savory course we experienced a delightful, delicate and flavorful combination of seasonal and local ingredients. The unique and impressive presentation of every dish is a plus.
Our server Mack was very attentive and professional, thank you!
I highly recommend Ambience restaurant.
I dined for a weeknight dinner last night, and truly experienced dining at its finest. What a treat to be able to experience multiple courses highlighting a variety of culinary delights! Will be back for more hopefully sooner rather than later!
Ambience is a very good restaurant, maybe not quite in the excellent class, but very, very good. The restaurant is elegant and quiet, a bit too quiet as the number of empty tables is an issue. There are very few restaurants south of San Francisco serving a tasting menu of this quality, so Ambience should be more popular in this very affluent area. Some quite original dishes, definitely worth a try.
Incredible overall experience. The food is creatively prepare and presented. The wait staff is highly professional and well informed. The premium wine pairing was well done, though a bit pricing. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic night out. Overall, really a Michelin experience!
This restaurant is so ready for a Michelin Star! Attributes: Excellent service, unique food, meticulous plating, and a warm inviting atmosphere.
I have eaten at Ambience several times and each time it gets better and better. The atmosphere and ambience(hence the name) is truly what separates it from other fine dining restaurants. It is located in the heart of Los Altos and is truly worth the experience. The chef who serves a wide variety of dishes from game meat to seafood shares his expertise with each flavorful bite. The dishes are served with a variety of special flavors that amplifies each bite that you take. If you are in the area or if you have a special occasion with your significant other, Ambience would be an experience worth taking.
I treated one of my best friends to a lovely ladies night out as we are both foodies who enjoy treating ourselves. We were celebrating her birthday, and what a treat Ambience was! We have both dined at a handful of Michelin-praised restaurants, and were surprised to find out that Ambience hasn't been. It is a hidden gem! From start to finish, each course was spot on where the ingredients ranged from seafood to game to meat options. We opted for the premium wine pairings, because why not! While you'd have to expect that it would add to the final total cost, it was definitely worth the splurge as it only enhanced the flavors of each dish that they were paired with. Too many to note on this short review, but I know for sure that I will definitely be back!
Ambience is a true fine dining experience. The service was attentive and the food was amazing. The presentation was just as good as the food tasted.
Wonderful server Chris, elegant presentation of cuisine, not quite the French Laundry, but each dish was enticing to the taste buds. The wine pairing was spot on!
The food was good, and included dishes like pheasant and elk, which we really enjoyed.
The service was mostly okay, but when I would look up, the hostess was staring at us. She was also helping serve the dishes, and at one point, when I had eaten one bite of a dish and didn't like it, she told me that I should just try it and to take a bite. I found that pushy and presumptuous.
Honestly, I don't think I will be going back. What was supposed to be a romantic date night was ruined by the hostess' intrusiveness, and there are lots of restaurants with tasting menus to choose from.
True to the name it had great ambiance. It has a very intimate feel since they purposely partitioned the restaurant into smaller sections. The food and service overall were good as well. The food being a different take on contemporary Asian food which was great
It’s good for dates and special occasions. I would recommend going when it’s not busy so that you can pretend to have booked the whole restaurant.
About the only dish we didn’t like was the pheasant. The only other thing that missed the mark was they completely missed that I put this as a “birthday” on the Open table reservation. The SO was not too pleased about that. That said if you do have a special occasion, I would call to confirm that they noticed it.
Ambience is the perfect place to go on a date. Taking the entire family may not be worth it, but it will be memorable, no matter what. To appreciate the food one must savor every bite, be brave and curious, take time to observe each plate, relax over a 3-hour span of time, and not be worried about the budget. The price is extremely high though it must be comparable or maybe even budget against the likes of Chez TJ, Alexander's Seafood, Baume, etc.
When Ambience first opened, it was $125.00 pp, new, and their serving plates/dishes was like an art show. This time, $175 pp without wine is what you can expect. Can't help wince at $50.00 for a single glass of wine.
Fantastic service and presentation. Many seafood themed plates made this a fun, exotic experience. Our server's accent was a bit difficult to understand. We wanted to experience more of a variety of meats or desserts. Still, this place is a hidden gem.
My second visit here at the ambience restaurant located in the heart of Los Altos. I again am left speechless, from the service to the creative dishes they serve , your time at ambience is truly worth every bit of your time. What stands out the most during your dine in experience is the attention to detail each plate is prepared. It is prepared in meticulous fashion and every bite you take an expression of the chefs innovation magnifies with each bite. A definite gem and true find.
Out of the 12 items we had for dinner we could say that we were impressed with only 4. I was underwhelmed with the each dish. There was an overwhelming use of butter in each dish which left me thinking the chef isn't experienced and also explained why the restaurant was dead on a Friday night. When we would get another course, we would be disappointed that it would be yet another too fishy tasting seafood course. The only good seafood course was the Tuna tartare. The lobster was ok, but again too much butter. It was just lobster swimming in a butter bisque.
