Good food and nice ambiance in a location crowded with competition. The service was a little disappointing, especially given that there were very few patrons when I went, but I would still recommend it overall.
This was an OK Chinese meal. The Dim Sum sampler was good enough and the Flounder Clay Pot was unusual and tasty.
Other dinner's recommendations to sit upstairs is a "must do". While I enjoyed my meal, it was nothing special warranting a return visit.
Food was good and always consistent. My only compliant is the waitress accidentally poured water into my beer glass ( still half a glass of beer left). She was lovely and apologized and then brought me another beer. She charged me for the other beer! I didn't realize it until I left but I was pretty angry about that.
Amber is a delightful restaurant. All of its locations are good, but I like the decor of this particular one and there is a great ambiance in the space as well. Also, the staff are friendly, the prices are great and the food is really good. I've been to a lot of thai places, but Amber keeps me coming back over and over again.
Food is good. Make sure you sit upstairs. It is much more pleasant. Also, make sure they check in your reservation. Twice when I have come, they have marked me as a no-show even though I told them I had a reservation.
We live in the neighborhood and hadn't been to Amber for a while. We always liked it, so we decided to come in. There was some sort of rowdy party going on at the bar while we ate. I don't think they should have seated anyone downstairs. My husband and I could barely hear each other speak. He kept getting bumped by rowdy college kids.
It wasn't their fault really, but they shouldn't have had dinner guests sitting there. I will come back and try again because their staff is so nice and friendly and the food is good, but will ask to be seated upstairs.
Amber should also be very proud of their staff. Few restaurants have such nice people working for them.
appetizers were good. sushi was okay. pink lady roll was fishy.
What a wonderful find! The food was delicious and presented beautifully. The setting was fabulous with exposed brick walls, and the service was very attentive. A perfect night out!
Everything was fine. Nothing was amazing. It was really, really cold though
The sushi was excellent. The waiter was a bit slow and brought the food out before the cocktails we ordered which was a little weird. We also had very drunk and rowdy group sit next to us which made it not as pleasant, but that's not the restaurant's fault.
We spent one evening of our New York trip here. Selected and booked the place based on both hotel recommendation and internet. When we arrived, we were a bit sceptical - but this was washed away by the friendly service and the nice food ... we for sure can recommend this place !
The food was very good, but the waitress seemed overwhelmed
Come for the drinks. Food's fairly mediocre.
My lunch date arrived about 15 minutes before me. She wasn't offered a drink or anything. Once we sat down, everything was fine.
This is a good spot for a lunch on weekdays if you are near the Grammercy Park area. I always get a sushi mixed platter lunch and a friend loves the spicy tuna and avocado salad. The staff are super nice.
Very good sushi!! Very good sushi!! Very good sushi!! Very good sushi!!
Not as good as other Amber restaurants because of limited lunch menu and not all choices available. Staff not very friendly or accomodating.
Food was ok. When I asked for sugar they bought out packages of Dunkin doughnuts sugar packs.
Sushi was perfectly fine. Service was very slow. It was in the right place at the right time. Would return if I was in need of sushi in kips bay again, but wouldn't go out of my way.
Nice surprise for lunch. Nice quality Asian food, good service, good value in a spacious upstairs
Having eaten in Amber before, I knew there was a very high noise level, especially during "happy hour", so because our reservation was for 6:30, I requested the quietest table upstairs, and that's what I got. That is until a very cute an exuberant party of 6 or 8 young women (couldn't tell because they kept coming and going!) sat down.
The food and service were excellent. I told the waitress we were in no hurry, so she let us finish our drinks before coming over for our orders. She was very sweet and informative. We both enjoyed our drinks and dinner very much, but truly, this place is not for people who want to have a conversation during dinner.
If you're in the mid-20s, East side, Amber Kipsbay is a great lunch spot to take a client, when you are on a budget, not trying to impress with bells and whistles on a first time lunch . I was a little leery of the decor, as the entrance makes the restaurant seem really narrow and small, and the front tables looking out on 3rd seemed a little noisy, but the upstairs is spacious and pleasant. The wine list and menu had a generous range of selections and we were both delighted with the Sauvigon Blanc, Duck roll appetizer and Green Curry entree we chose.
Another scrumptious meal at Amber, same menu as Amber at 3rd Avenue@ 80th Street. Unfortunately, the dining room of the Kips Bay branch is reached by a long steep staircase. The room itself is rather dark.
I prefer them for delivery.......
Excellent food and service a hidden gem
Amber was busy but good. The service and the food was good.
I love Amber and their Ocean Roll.
Every dish was terrific and beautifully presented!
Great space, great ambiance, romantic - food and service were good, not outstanding.
This is my sushi spot of choice whenever I am in the area and it never fails me!
Excellent decor and really tasty food! Have been there twice and would absolutely recommend it to everyone who is into pan-Asian cuisine.
Every piece of sushi was great
The fish was fresh and the selection made by Amber's was the best!!!
The room upstairs really is charming and quiet (at least on a Sunday night)
Asian with some very cool fusions. The service was spot on...a fun place with excellent food and full bar.
went with 6 people and everyone had a delicious meal. The menu is very varied so it appealed to everyone in our party.
Fantastic food, service and decor. I had a group of 13 and the food came out very well and fast. I would definitely go to this restaurant again.
Abrupt service, things floating in my water glass, and asked to wait at least an hour while the health dept did an inspection.

Very good meal, with very good service, but the noise level was extreme
This restaurant had a noise level that was off the charts, but we were willing to put up with it as the appetizers we had were absolutely sensational (chunky-chunky-chunky, chicken satay, fried dumplings, filet mignon lettuce leaves). But we were disappointed with the entrees (green curry with chicken, pineapple fried rice, beef with basil and pad thai). The pieces of chicken and beef were cut so large and flat, almost like a scallopini - either do a chunk or a julienne strip. These pieces were very cumbersome and hard to manage, especially with just a fork or chopsticks. The seasoning was bland - we asked for regular hot seasoning, not very hot, but we got no seasononing at all.
