Amber India - Santana Row Ratings and Reviews
I have been here many times and am never disappointed. As a plus, there are plenty of yummy and interesting options for vegetarians (several included among family and friends!) . It has become one of my favorite places to dine because the food is something that I wouldn't cook at home. That makes it a treat to go here.
1) service was really slow bad-they did not even refill our water- had to call several times- we had made a reservation and even though restaurant wasn't very full we were given table in the middle of the room- waiters passing by bumped into our table several times
2) veg options really limited - only 5
3) food wasn't good for what we had been charged
NOT value for money - At least for dinner
I actually got the date wrong. I booked for 11th when I should have booked for the 12th. Turned up on the 12th, no reservation but they seated us anyway. Plus, I asked at the end for a less spicy dish (2 in our party hinted they wanted something less spicy), rest of the party said no need, but restaurant brought us a small sampler anyway. Excellent service!
Worst of all Amber India locations. Terrible food and consistently so over the last 6 months. When I spoke to the manager to give this feedback in person saying even the basic dal isn't made right and the meal costs average 50 per person, the attitude was such that the cost is nothing in Bay Area for a good dinner and we make good food (quite some humility huh!)
Amber Santana Row food taste has gone downhill in the last few months. The amount of salt being used by the new chef (likely) is Horrendous to put it mildly. Even the marinade in the kababs is too salty. We had to return the appetizer and the fish tandoor and order something different.
I have been to this restaurant several times and have always loved it. However this time it fell short. They do change their menu occasionally and this time there was a preponderance of chicken and lamb dishes. Yes, they had other things...some fish and vegetarian but I felt like the proteins were sparse and uninspired. The service was good, however, which will bring me back one more time.
Felt pretty worn out place . Have been to San Francisco one seems much better . Santana Row one needs an upgrade for price and projecting itself as upscale Indian. Food was average , have eaten better Indian Food in the valley. May be buffet is a better value havent tried it here though. Not planning to come back for ala carte.
The food is good the service is poor. It took forever for someone to come over an recognize the we had been sat at least 5-7 minutes. We ordered drinks and appetizers, apps came no drinks. Apps finished and removed from the table.....no drinks.....no drinks.... no drinks....Entrees come and finally our drinks. Waiter, staff all avoided eye contact as if they were afraid that you would ask a question. Will not be back.
Food is always wonderful. For the fact the food is outstanding I would consider trying another Indian restaurant. However I have eaten at Amber at least a dozen times. I find the wait staff to be aloof and unfriendly on a consistent basis. Also notice if there is a man with us, the table is provided better service. Many times a long wait in between visits back to the table, once again every visit is consistent with this issue. The booths have a beautiful material covering, however the top of the booths are very dusty. It's been like that for a long time. Someone needs to vacuum the booths.
We had a great time trying new foods. I intended to go back for seconds (a Mothers' Day buffet) but sated myself on the wonderful vegetarian selections. The staff was very helpful in explaining dishes to us, cautioning us about "spicy" etc. There was a nice drink list which included mint lemonade. Yum. My "I'm going to try this at home" favorite came from the desert table and was called Chandrakala. It's a flour pastry filled with nuts (or dried fruits).
