They added 20% gratuity even though we were only 4 adults n an infant. Very unfair. Not that Service was not good but 20% by default is not justified!

Food and ambiance are pretty good. Menu is limited.

We love Indian food, but often aren't happy with the service or how greasy some of the dishes are. Amber fixes all of that- the service is professional and friendly, the food is absolutely wonderful and we even had left-overs! A great place. Generous wine glass pours as well

My 2nd visit to Amber San Jose was disappointing - some of our dishes seemed to be warmed up - one was tepid at best - the food quality is good but its way over priced so OK if you are expensing your meal - probably 50% higher than restaurants just as good - entrees should at least include rice/nan at these high prices - not sure I can make a 3rd visit to be honest

The service was sub par. Palak panner taste like yesterday's food. The kofta and dal were excellent. When we ordered Naan again, the waiter didn't get it into the kitchen. Overall, the service and quality of food has certainly come down.

High score for tasty Indian food, prepared with high quality ingredients. The spice is toned down to serve a broader clientele, but the taste is retained. The buffet is well priced for what's on offer. The live dosa counter is a nice touch.

Pretty much everything on the buffet menu tastes good, though some of the non vegetarian stuff has a common taste - could do with some variety in flavor.

The restaurant is nice and quite, which i like however the food was not spicy enough for me. Ti understand that they can not keep spicy food on menu because most of their customers may not like it but at least they should ask for spice level which taking the order so that People like me can get authentic india food with indian spice level and not American Indian

Goat was chewy and tough. Chicken was dry. Had good flavors. Items like salad, and a few hot dishes were not refilled quickly. The price is high end for Indian Cuisine. There are better ones in See an Francisco. Won't want to return.

We've been going to Amber for years now. The quality of food has definitely gone down. Appetizers are good but the main course has been very disappointing lately, especially the vegetarian options.

I have been here many times and am never disappointed. As a plus, there are plenty of yummy and interesting options for vegetarians (several included among family and friends!) . It has become one of my favorite places to dine because the food is something that I wouldn't cook at home. That makes it a treat to go here.

Expensive yet tasteless food. The SF location has much better tasting food. Even the Daal Amber (which you expect they have nailed down) had no flavour other than heat.

Truly amazing. Hadn't eaten there for a while and forgot how amazing this place is. We ordered chicken tikka masala and lamb vindaloo neither of which are on the menu. They made it for us special. AMAZING.

After numerous visits, the service never gets better. Food arrives before appetizers and drinks. Getting their attention is an exercise in futility, especially when they never check in periodically.

Recommend that you skip this pricey place.

We have been here numerous times and enjoyed it. This visit was a let down. It appeared the waiter was overwhelmed attending to a large group celebrating the Birthday Party and we did not get the service we were expecting for a place like Amber ($$$).

1) service was really slow bad-they did not even refill our water- had to call several times- we had made a reservation and even though restaurant wasn't very full we were given table in the middle of the room- waiters passing by bumped into our table several times
2) veg options really limited - only 5
3) food wasn't good for what we had been charged
NOT value for money - At least for dinner

Quality of food has gone downhill .
Every dish appears overly drenched in oil . Pakoras dry and brittle . Dto Dosas . Not much of choice of vegetables . All preparations look alike .
Whining children makes it difficult to converse .
Impersonal Service !

Overpriced Indian food. I had way better food at Little Indian Cafe in Sunnyvale, which was a 9 out 10. Amber India was a 6 out of 10.

I actually got the date wrong. I booked for 11th when I should have booked for the 12th. Turned up on the 12th, no reservation but they seated us anyway. Plus, I asked at the end for a less spicy dish (2 in our party hinted they wanted something less spicy), rest of the party said no need, but restaurant brought us a small sampler anyway. Excellent service!

Worst of all Amber India locations. Terrible food and consistently so over the last 6 months. When I spoke to the manager to give this feedback in person saying even the basic dal isn't made right and the meal costs average 50 per person, the attitude was such that the cost is nothing in Bay Area for a good dinner and we make good food (quite some humility huh!)

Amber Santana Row food taste has gone downhill in the last few months. The amount of salt being used by the new chef (likely) is Horrendous to put it mildly. Even the marinade in the kababs is too salty. We had to return the appetizer and the fish tandoor and order something different.

Great food, attentive service but not pushy. We come here for dinners with out-of-town friends as it's one of the few restaurants that is quiet enough for actual conversation.

The lunch buffet is excellent. The atmosphere is also very nice. The staff is highly competent and accommodating. The iced tea comes from a fountain jet and is very poor. Brewed iced tea would be a major improvement.

I have been to this restaurant several times and have always loved it. However this time it fell short. They do change their menu occasionally and this time there was a preponderance of chicken and lamb dishes. Yes, they had other things...some fish and vegetarian but I felt like the proteins were sparse and uninspired. The service was good, however, which will bring me back one more time.
