Amber India Ratings and Reviews
I've been eating at Amber India for many years and always been impressed by the food. This meal was, unfortunately, quite disappointing. They seem to be just coasting on their reputation, as the food was really not very good. I like spicy food, but not at the expense of flavor, and there was very little flavor in most of the dishes other than chile.
Please note this was for the lunch buffet. I cannot comment on their dinner or a la carte service for lunch.
It is probably my tenth trip to Amber in 2 years and I have never been disappointed. They continue to maintain their standards whether it is the lunch buffet or the dinner menu. Probably the best North Indian food in San Francisco city area in my opinion. Every one of my guests wants a repeat performance there!
The food here is upscale Indian and delicious and the restaurant seems to draw a mainly Indian crowd. There are things on the luchtime buffet (which is so much better than any of the other Indian buffets I’ve been to) that sometimes are too spicy for my gringo taste, but there are things on the menu that aren’t too spicy. My favorite appetizer is the palak chat, flash-fried spinach served with tamarind sauce. It’s my go-too place for birthday lunches.
What can I say? It was just a dinner with a friend - the food was delicious, the beer was cold, the service was timely and polite! In other words the evening went smoothly and I would gladly recommend this place for anyone who wants to have a pleasant meal!
We've eaten here several times and always enjoyed it. This time we brought three other couples and had one of the best meals that we've ever had here. Great appetizers were cauliflower, and lentil bites. Entrees we enjoyed were lamb chops and mushroom kofta among others.
A fun cocktail list and a delicious selection of appetizers at the bar would always be a good option after work or if waiting for a table. The butter chicken was excellent as was the sea bass and lamb dishes. The service was very good despite the restaurant being very busy and somewhat loud. Definitely going back!
Food quality deteriorated from the past 2 years, Lunch buffet used to be attractive but this time found most of the food cold, items were running out. long lines to get your turn to the buffet caused people to filled up their plates more than their limit results more wastage.
Best Indian food I've had since leaving New York City in 1990. Clean, cozy, nicely decorated and the food is outstanding. Had the Butter Chicken and tasted the Vindaloo which was amazing. Mango Lassie was made with real Mango puree - not powder. Service was great as well. Loved it.
We have been here before--one of our top choices for a special occasion, in this case a belated birthday dinner for a friend. The restaurant always honors our request for a table in a quieter area of the dining room. The food is always excellent, as is the service. Plus, the restaurant is conveniently located near transit and near the San Francisco Museum.
