We are new to SFO. We went there with a lot of expectations after reading the reviews. However, it turned out to be a very bad experience. We didn't like the food at all. This restaurant seems very non-vegetarian biased and I could be wrong, but none of there vegetarian dishes impressed us, cocktails were okay. Not a good value for money we spent.

We had an amazing holiday get together of friends. We loved the cauliflower in coconut creme and the flash fried spinach. The butter chicken might just be the best anywhere. Service was friendly and helpful, ambiance was just right for catching up. Location right downtown feels special. Can't wait to return.

Most unusual Indian menu. Each dish was wonderful...Sea bass was phenomenal! Lovely artistic decor, and great service. What more could anyone want?

The food arrived hot but I received the wrong meal at first. They apologized saying they were unusually busy. When my meal finally arrived it was good but not among the best Indian I have had. There was very little depth to the flavors. The Naan was definitely not very good. It reminded me of an overdone pita more than a Naan, dry and flavorless.

Menu is unfriendly for single diner. U can choose only one dish and bread to go with it. Staff very unhelpful in suggesting combination, expect you to order2 full dish’s and waste food. Finally I did NOT get to eat what I wanted.

This is my second time in Amber. First time was mind blowing. This second time, just good. I don´t know why they don´t say anything about the Buffet on Saturdays. Anyway, good fod but I really was especting much more.

One of the few amazing Indian restaurants in the city.
Highly recommend their weekend brunches and ala carte menu during the week.
Good is unique, tasteful and amazing!

the kicker was with the bill; two for brunch on a reservation, without notice, a mandatory tip on a prix fixe banquet brunch. first time, last time.

Birthday lunch for a girlfriend. Food was great and it was nice they brought out a birthday dessert. But it took 10+ minutes to get a servers attention for the check and then even more time for them to pick it up and return with receipts to sign.

Excellent food. The only issue was that both dishes were quite spicy. Needed a little less spicy for at least one.

Food was very subpar compared to Indian food I’ve had elsewhere. We also only ordered two drinks to the table and one was wrong, which is fine but then the server failed to correct his mistake in a timely fashion.

I requested a quiet table and was really pleased that the request was honored. Our server was great! He managed our small group arriving at different times very well and was attentive without being obtrusive. The atmosphere is pleasant and the location great from the parking and public transit viewpoint. It is a good reliable downtown restaurant, though a little pricier than I had remembered.

I've been eating at Amber India for many years and always been impressed by the food. This meal was, unfortunately, quite disappointing. They seem to be just coasting on their reputation, as the food was really not very good. I like spicy food, but not at the expense of flavor, and there was very little flavor in most of the dishes other than chile.

Please note this was for the lunch buffet. I cannot comment on their dinner or a la carte service for lunch.

I have eaten at Amber many times, and this is the first time the food was mediocre. I had the lunch buffet. There were fewer selections than on previous visits, and nothing was above average-even the butter chicken, which is one of the specialties.

It is probably my tenth trip to Amber in 2 years and I have never been disappointed. They continue to maintain their standards whether it is the lunch buffet or the dinner menu. Probably the best North Indian food in San Francisco city area in my opinion. Every one of my guests wants a repeat performance there!

The food here is upscale Indian and delicious and the restaurant seems to draw a mainly Indian crowd. There are things on the luchtime buffet (which is so much better than any of the other Indian buffets I’ve been to) that sometimes are too spicy for my gringo taste, but there are things on the menu that aren’t too spicy. My favorite appetizer is the palak chat, flash-fried spinach served with tamarind sauce. It’s my go-too place for birthday lunches.

Upscale Indian food. Chicken tikka was amazing, tender and flavorful and their version of baingen Bertha is not to be missed. Real gem. Pricier than usual Indian but reasonable. Party of 3 with wine was $150.

We have been at Amber India on several occasions. It is high end and delicious Indian food. Also very convenient place to meet friends coming in from the East Bay - only a few steps to the BART Powell Station. We will return.

We've eaten here several times and always enjoyed it. This time we brought three other couples and had one of the best meals that we've ever had here. Great appetizers were cauliflower, and lentil bites. Entrees we enjoyed were lamb chops and mushroom kofta among others.
