Amber India - San Francisco
This place has the most delicious biryani I have ever tasted. Full stop. Get it. You won't be disappointed!
Meh. The food was ok, cocktail list and ingredients ok, and the service was ok. The prices were too high for food and drinks that were just ok. Spend your money in one of the other, better restaurants in the area.
The food was perfection. The service
Amber India is well-known for its buffet lunches but dinner is just as good. I would call its cuisine fusion as there are a few dishes with non-South Asian ingredients but everything is cooked totally Indian-style. Very interesting, modern cocktails. Service was excellent. I highly recommend.
A nice restaurant. There is a good choice of food and drinks. The service is excellent. Portions tend to be big though.
Dreamforce customer lunch
Great food and delicious food. Not very spicy. Authentic taste.
Food was good, plated decently, but overall the value wasn't upscale enough for an upscale Indian restaurant
Great choice for a Saturday brunch if you like Indian food. There was no line and all the food was still fresh and tasted great. Nice selection of veggie and meat options and they also make fresh dosas with masala or without. Delicious. Even their desserts were yummy and everything is unlimited including mimosas. We had a really nice server too. I will definitely be back.
I bring all of my friends and family here and we love it. It’s excellent every single time. As a vegetarian, I cannot think of a better cuisine than Indian cuisine. The buffet is an outstanding way for first-timers to experience many dishes at a flat price. Indian food is layered, complex and time-consuming to make well. Do yourself and your friends a favor and make Amber a regular. There simply isn’t a better Indian restaurant in the Bay Area. I’m already looking forward to my next meal at Amber India.
Delicious Indian food. Great vegetarian options available also. Lovely ambience.
Very good food, just a bit expensive. A great restaurant for treating yourself and friends occasionally.
For the price of the weekend buffet the quality of the food was below average. The desert (Halwa and kheer) seemed to be stale and from left overs from the previous days.
Good overall, dessert not so much, we ordered the creme brûlée and it was horrible. We expected something else, it was disappointing.
Excellent North Indian food with to die for Butter Chicken. Very attentive staff. The pre-fix choices give you a nice sampling and they let you have whatever more of your favorites you want. Highly recommend
4 of us stuck nearby big tables with many kids unsupervised by parents nor staff. Our server overwhelmed with them and we felt “stuck in” even with a reservation. Slow. Inattentive. Used to enjoy this place but won’t risk a return visit at their price point.
$32 per head apparently for bottomless Mimisas which we didn’t ask for or partake in.. plus they forced us to pay 15% gratuity for a party of 4. Ridiculous. These guys should be out of business
The food was amazing, definitely worth the price. Except the rice, the rice felt a little overpriced. However, the ambiance of the restaurant made my date night perfect.
The staff was engaging, professional and well trained. The cuisine was good with no flaws but fairly middle of the road considering the price tag. Will go again but not necessarily out of my considering the vast level of exceptional choices in SF @ the same or slightly lower price point.
It was great!
The service was very slow, we had to wait 30 minutes for our drinks, some of the staff was not helpful at all. we were not offered the full menu and had to ask for it. Bar was sold to another group and so we could not get a drink, I would recommend it only for the food.
Im not from India. Indian food has something unique for ethnic cuisine the spices. Many of us cannot tolerate the spices. This is a buffet during mid dsy. Its probably authentic and its very well prepared and presented. Its pricey. People not from India will want to eat it all. Yet the food may not settle right gor everyone. The place is very clean and comfortable and cheerful
Excellent meal. Glad we came back after many years since the last time we were in San Francisco.
Will come again when we are back in town.
Really good Indian food!
Great service and food was delicious we have ordered lots of vegetarian options
Enjoyed the mango lassi
great restaurant. we celebrated a friend’s birthday. we got there early and enjoyed great cocktails for happy hour. food and ambiance were perfect. service was friendly but waitress forgot about us for about 20 minutes as we sat at the table with our menus. it was not a big deal because we were in no hurry. once she remembered us, service was great the rest of the night.
Beautiful setting with freshly prepared delicious food. The chaat options, freshly made dosas and the entree options were as per their reputation: amazing! The fish was delicious. The lemon chicken was just right. And to top it off with the Moong daal halwa. Recommend without reservations. The prompt service only elevates the experience. Will visit again and again.
The food was godlike. I haven’t had better Indian food anywhere.
Delicious lunch buffet
Delicious well prepared vegetarian food was fabulous!
Absolutely excellent in every way!!!
Overall good. The food was over spiced and somewhat room temperature on arrival. The service was average at best. Not all, rather simple requests were followed, like how much ice in my drink, and what I wanted cleared from the table at the end of the meal. Got the check when I was not ready. So no dessert or coffee. Servers not knowledgeable about the dishes (but maybe gone are the days when servers actually understood the food they were serving, and the culture to which it belongs).
We had reservations and were sat immediately. Service was a bit slow and our waitress never followed up with us. Rest of the crew was attentive and made sure our water glasses were full. We ordered lamb chops from the tandoor which were delicious. Butter chicken was ok. The chicken was a bit stringy and chewy. The banigan (eggplant) dish was also yummy. Overall a nice dinner and flavorful before a movie. I do wish it wasn't so dark in the restaurant (middle section). I couldn't even see my meal properly which I don't like, especially when ordering meat dishes so I can avoid bites of fat.
The maitre d clearly thought we were too casually dressed and not worthy of proper treatment (most people were in suits but we were on holiday) . Made a decision and put us right next to the service counter. I felt we had been unnecessarily judged by him. It’s a bad policy in SAN Francisco.
The rest of the staff were delightful. The food amazing. So just the front of house was a problem.
The quantity of food per serving is way too low and the customers are forced to order more than one dish for the same.
The selections were significant and we told the waiter we wanted something spicy. He suggested a couple dishes. I got the Vindaloo and my wife got the Sea Bass Curry. Both were excellent and had the right amount of spice. Totally different flavors that actually complemented each other. Add the combo basket of Naan and you will have a feast.
Great food but i give zero stars for service.
I am completely shocked by manager's behaviour tonight. I have been to this place several times and have had a great experience until tonight.
I had requested for a standard seating but were told that the restaurant is full and nothing else was available except high top. We were fine as its Saturday night and understand the restaurant was busy. But the chairs on high top seating had torn upholstery (!!) that was way too uncomfortable to sit on. We told the lady who had just sat us down that the condition of the chairs were chafing our legs and we can't sit there and if there is any other seating opening up. This was less than a minute into being there. She went back to check with the manager, came back and moved us to a standard seat. I asked her why we were not seated here in the first place and she just said that she is acting under her managers direction. We requested to speak with him. He never turned up during the entire meal. I had to ask for him again while we waited for our check . He finally came and was just completely defensive and arrogant when we narrated the story. ZERO service and hospitality skills. Told us to do whatever we want to do and that he doesn't care . We asked him if he thinks it's alright to sit his customers at the high top seats to which he replied' Oh everyone sit there just fine. ' I asked him if he even knew that the upholstery is torn - to which he had no response. I took him and showed it to him and he just had no answer besides 'people sit there just fine.'
Sir, if you are serving $30 entree your customers expect comfortable seats at the very least. Your customers expect a simple apology, forget about service recovery. Your customers expect that you don't dismiss their complaint by saying you don't care.
I am very very disappointed and sad because I love the food here . You just lost my business forever but I guess your response to that would also be 'I don't care'
Small portions. Outstanding, authentic flavors.
Food was good. I was more fond of the appetizers, especially the Samosa Chat and Spinach Chat which were both outstanding. Not being a huge fan of cream sauces, the Saag Paneer was a bit too smooth, if that makes sense. I like it with a bit more graininess to it versus the pureed texture. Dahl was excellent as was the bread. Overall great experience.
We are repeat customers.
Food excellent!Best restaurant for Indian food!
