Amber India - San Francisco
Amber's Signature-Shredded Tandoori Chicken, Tomato, Cream Sauce
Watsonville Spinach, Garlic, Cottage Cheese, Cream
Stir fried Watsonville Cauliflower Florets, Coconut Cream, Mustard Seeds Curry leaves
we were served frozen stale food, definitely one of the worst dining experiences I have had, surely not visiting them again
What a wonderful restaurant! Open for a late lunch, some of the best Food I've had in SF! The server made fresh chai for me when I ordered it. What a wonderful experience. Nice warm heaters for outdoor COVID-mitigated dining.
Service was great and ambience was wonderful. However, the food was subpar for the price. Tasted old and was greasy and just not palatable.
Karwachouth special dinner date - the overall experience was good.
Few things to callout:
1. Tomato taste was overpowering in Kadhai Paneer curry. Too much of tomatoes which had suppressed the actual taste of curry.
2. We have ordered Rasmalai in dessert and it was an average dish. The main reason is the stuffing which was supposed to be soft but it wasn’t as expected. Additionally it’s taste quite a different and texture was also different.
Apart from above callouts, other things were extraordinary. Tandoori Paneer starter/entree , Butter Chicken curry, Butter Naan, Mango lassi, Ras Bahri cocktail, Gulab Jamun. This place serves One of the best Mango lassi in Bay area.
We have requested to make Butter Chicken curry on spicy side and it was damn good. It was full of flavors- slight creamy and sweet and then burst with spice.
We loved the food, thoroughly enjoyed it and definitely recommended for yummy-delicious indian food.
Overall: 3 1/2 stars (deducting half star due to 2 callouts else it would have been 4 stars)
Amber never disappoints. a great place to try quality Indian cuisine.
One of our favorites. Quality ingredients, well prepared. Staff very good about COVID precautions. Outdoor patio was comfortable.
Great ambience!! always great food . I hope they can bring back the charm they had before
Great service. Did a great job with wearing masks, social distancing and still serving great food!
They have opened up an outdoor patio, which helps for social distancing dining.
Great food in a nice location. Not the cheapest or best cocktails, but the food was amazing. The preacher on the cross street was annoying as he was on a PA. I guess there is no decibel code in SF? The Staff was great and friendly. Proud of their quality food.
Relation after work some outdoor dining .
Great dinner! The food was fabulous!
Incredible find near my hotel. Great food. The Butter Chicken is a must...but the big surprise was the incredible shrimp appetizer! Flavor was outstanding.
Outdoor dining was great
It was a relaxing evening with patio dining. It was clean and sanitized . It was amazing . I missed you for 3 months .
It's a nice buffet, but if you have dietary restrictions, there are less options. There are some vegetarian options, but you have to read the signs carefully. If you are vegetarian and gluten free, then the options narrow even further. There used to be a dosa station, but that is gone. The service is good, and you can eat to your stomach's content!
Good food and service
Very dark restaurant but good service. Food was average
I was not aware that it was a buffet on the day of my lunch reservation. It was delicious and I got to taste lots more than I would have otherwise. But for someone like me who is a light eater, it was a little pricey. The place was packed so lots of people must have thought it was worth it. The facility is very pretty and very comfortable and the staff were very professional. I will probably try it again since the food was so good. But I would warn my dining partners in advance that it is a little more than the usual lunch.
Great Indian food in a nice white table cloth environment.
The lighting is too low to read the menu. Otherwise is was a very good experience. Meal was delicious and the service was very good.
We have been to Amber India in the past, but it has been a while and the quality of the food has declined, while the prices have risen.
We found the food to be mediocre and the portions small. The sea bass curry had only a few small cubes of fish in sauce, and the eggplant dish was sour and salty, with a disagreeable flavor. When we told the waitress the eggplant wasn't good, she shrugged and walked away. There was clearly no interest in making it right.
I'd have given a worse rating, except that the spinach chaat appetizer was delicious, and the atmosphere is pleasant. We used to enjoy this restaurant as our 'go-to' place in the area, so I'm hoping they were just having a bad night, and that this isn't representative of their new quality and attitude.
On the way out, we noticed that their sanitation score has dropped to 88, so maybe they really are slacking off.
This used to be our favorite Indian restaurant for many years, but sadly the quality of the food has declined to the point where it is not worth the high cost of a meal here.
The Samosas were excellent and reasonably priced at $12.95 for 4 pieces. However, the rest of our meal, tandoori chicken, okra and a lamb curry, were poorly prepared. They all tasted like they used the exact same seasoning and were so over spiced that you could barely taste any flavor of the underlying dish. The Naan was mediocre at best. The stingy portion of 4 small pieces of Tandoori chicken for $25.95 was ridiculous.
The service was very slow. The wait between the appetizer and main courses was more than 35 minutes. $120 for this meal, plus one beer, was not worth it.
food was excellent and service was very good. ambiance and location very good
Amber never fails! Every time I take friends visiting from abroad, I take them to Amber and experience has been always excellent 👍👍👍
Great place to visit and have a fantastic meal with family, friends and coworkers.
Do not sit at the bar area. Such bad service. We waited 15 mins just to get a menu. We then waited another 20 mins to put in our order for appetizers. They informed us 30 mins later that one of the items we ordered was no longer available so we put in an entree order. It never came. They forgot and then we had to reorder it and the waiter said he didnt hear when he had asked us questions to confirm that entree order. We had to fight to get the entree off the bill. And we barely got an apology. Will not be sitting at the bar ever again.
The food was not that great. I tried the chicken tikka
The lunch buffet on Saturdays is really good and an excellent value for money. Some drinks, such as mimosas and sodas are included (but not beer). The buffet is quite extensive, I never manage to eat everything I want to. I especially like their dessert selection, it is different from other Indian restaurants and it's delicious. There was no line when we got seated around 12:15pm. Hope it stays that way, as we're definitely planning to come back.
Well we had the reservation but when I reached the place they said they didn’t have the reservation in their system and I had to wait for 15 min to accommodate. After that instead of better seating area they provided the place near the kitchen. On asking about the empty places they said you have wait more 1 hour or so. We did not wanted to wait and after we finished our dinner. The better seating area was still empty.
I didn't like being asked to leave just 45 minutes after being seated, because they needed to rearrange the tables or something - the host could have told me when I checked in. This is shocking for a restaurant of this supposed class.
Excellent experience all around. Greeted by a wonderful hostess, seated in a timely manner. Our waiter was fantastic and helped us find some dishes that rank high on their menu. I don't think there is anything wrong per se ... but it seems many high end restaurants charge a lot and often the portions are small. I say that laughingly, as Americans are addicted to Super-Size-Me portions ... but actually our meals were just what we needed rather than more than what we needed. The Sea Bass, for example, was very tasty ... but at nearly $40 I guess I thought there would be more than 3 small cut pieces. But hey- it's San Francisco and everything is expensive there. We had a great time and would certainly visit again.
Excellent food and service would highly recommend..
The food and service are excellent, and it's easy to get a reservation. Amber is one of my favorite places in SF!
The lunch buffet was outstanding. The hosts were very accommodating, and the service was outstanding. The price is a little steep, but worth it.
Waiter was very attentive
Super Indian food at reasonable prices. Try to visit every time i’m in San Fran
