Amber India - Los Altos
An extensive vegetarian and non-vegetarian North Indian menu explores the moghlai cuisine and tandoori cooking.
To complete a perfect dining experience, you will find an exceptional selection of cocktails, beers, fine wines and traditional Indian drinks along with friendly, courteous service.
Appetizer plate of vege(samosa, cutlates, pakoras) was not worth it. First of all it was cold, pakoras were soft and cutlets were like eating dry green grass!!
Other food was okay.
Will never order appetizer , specially this dish.
Excellent meal and service
First time there recommended by a friend
Everything was outstanding and attention to details was diligent
Keep it up 👍
The food quality has deteriorated since my last visit a year ago
Best Indian restaurant in Bay Area. Both in terms of service as well as quality of food.
The outdoor patio was the perfect setting for our date night out.
Really Great , variety of seating options including a courtyard . Food is outstanding
Always terrific. Amber India gets better and better.
The quality of the food is not as high as the prices. Exorbitant prices for food that doesn't taste great and very normal.
Service was appallingly slow. 30 mins to get a table having made a reservation in advance. Food came out ONE HOUR after ordering, then came out cold. Sent it back, but 1 of 4 dishes still came back cold. Sent it back again, though they were reluctant to take it back claiming it was hot inside (it wasn’t). Manager discounted one entree but should have comp’d all 4 entrees or offered additional discount for a return visit.
Have been here before and enjoyed it, but this experience has me skeptical about going back.
We were seated outside. A mistake on a breezy, chilly evening especially. We had to insist on keeping the heater near our table until we finished paying the bill. We really liked the chaat items more than the main entree.
I had a reservation for us at 7:00 PM and were on-time. However, the manager at the front said that the tables are busy and it will take another 15 minutes to seat us. When I asked him "then what is the meaning for the reservation?", he ignored me and went into busy activities. He offered us to seat us outside, but the pungent smell of some seafood being served outside, drove us against the decision.
We were finally seated at 7:35 PM, and there wasn't even an mention of apology for the delay. He behaved as if he was doing us a favor. Once seated we waited another 15 minutes patiently, and finally, we had to wave and call for someone to take the order. We ordered everything from Appetizer to main course in one stretch, along with a drink (beer). The appetizer came in 10 minutes, but there were no sign of the beer that I ordered, even after 20 minutes. After tracking down the waiting staff, he brought it, with the mention that they were busy (the restaurant was full -- Father's day and couple of graduation dinners going on). but no mention of sorry or any other apology.
Food was decent, and by the time we started eating it was around 8:30 PM; we finished our food by 9:00 and then called for the dessert menu. We were told, that all they have is Gulab Jamun and Rice Pudding (usually the ones served during lunch buffet at Amber). So they weren't even prepared for that evening.
Finally, I was appalled to see a mandatory 20% Gratuity (for the three of us), and when I asked the staff as to whether it was standard, we were told that they were doing that on that day. Knowing fully well, they will not provide any service to anyone, they decided to rake up 20% Tips, whether someone was happy or not with the service.
Essentially, I am done with this place. (Am sure they don't care), although I have been going to this place for the past 25 years.
Occasional service blips are normal, but the attitude was simply terrible. That is humble opinion.
Great service. Really good service. Our favorite Indian restaurant!!
Quality and variety of the food was good. I also found the service good. Noise was a bit off the charts because there were a few large parties celebrating graduations. Could go for maybe one more meat option on the buffet (there was a lamb curry, a fish curry and tandoori chicken). The tandoori chicken was a little dry. My friend had the fish curry and loved it. Overall it was a good dining experience and I would come back.
Wonderful staff and excellent food
Too expensive for the food. The service was very bad for being a premium restaurant. I was here for a business dinner and the person serving us kept pressuring us to order and dropped our check without us even asking for it while we were still eating! Not worth it. There are much better options in this area that will beat this restaurant in all aspects.
Would not recommend for the Mother's Day brunch. Although there was an abundance of choices, I felt the quality was not as good as ordering off the menu. We had gone to the Mother's Day brunch a few years ago as well as the daily buffet several times there and it was wonderful. This year, some of the dishes were barely warm. The pretty stainless food servers did not keep the food warm and the large top was difficult to manage. The server gave us a beverage menu with no prices on it and no one mentioned that chai was included in the buffet price. The servers were very attentive - running everywhere to serve drinks and naan and clear tables. I hope they got the 18% tip that was automatically added on The poori station was great with a gal rolling them out and frying them right there. But next to that was another station which we had no idea what it was and the fellow said nothing to us and didn't even ask if we would like to try it. I didn't realize it was a different dish until I saw others with bowls of it. The many desserts and the many different choices of biryani and quantity of dishes were an improvement over the
MD brunch a few years ago but the quality was not as good.
Service is a little spotty - they took a long time to take a drink order, then brought the appetizers before the drinks arrived. The tables are kind of small too, a table for four feels cramped. The food is good, as always. The old location was better.
Upscale restaurant with Indian food and quiet seating area.
Always excellent. So many flavors and totally delicious.
Easter with family. It was good.
The team is so good with our kids and our friends' kids too when we gather for a fun outdoors at the fabulous patio.
It was over priced. Dinner for two of us was $120. That was crazy. Had 1 drink each, chicken and lamb dish, portions were small, $3 rice, $3 naan, samosas (small). I do not think I will be going back soon.
The lunch buffet was well balanced and delicious; a little something for everyone.
Great birthday dinner!
This was our first trip to Amber India, at my daughter's suggestion for her birthday. She is vegetarian and there were a number of good vegetarian options. The service was fast and attentive and the food tasty. We had samosas for appetizers and shared several entrees family style. We ordered the naan bread with goat cheese (very good) and roti also. The one disappointment was finding a couple of pieces of bone in the butter chicken (the one non-vegetarian dish we ordered) which put a damper on the rest of the dinner and made me cautious when taking additional bites. We will likely come back to try some of the other dishes that we did not get a chance to try this time.
Great tasting food. Wonderful range and fairly priced. Not a very service oriented place. Quality responsiveness from staff lacking at times. Had to call people every time for things.
Overall a decent place. Would go there again for the food.
We asked to be seated outside. So we got lovely seating by the fireplace. We got our menus. After that - We did not get any attention for ~40 minutes. There was no other guest seated outside. Out of sight out of mind I guess? The food and drinks were delicious and ambiance is great. I'll definitely come back but I'll walk over inside to place order next time.
Yes, the only annoying thing that I had to deal with was the fact that I had to remind for a 3rd time that I was attending a birthday celebration (once in the filing of the OpenTable reservation and another when I called to confirm my reservation) and that to explain that my cousin whose birthday we were celebrating did not receive any birthday dessert until I informed management. Why go through the ordeal 3 times when it could have been avoided? I will acknowledge that we received good service and that a mistake in understanding the menu was resolved and we did receive complimentary naan.
Taste- great, however prices are way up with much smaller portions . 4% surcharge for wages, reflected in smaller tip.
Chicken ka tikka, was very bad, something that was rushed when the initial order was missed.
Flavorful food, no ambiance, acoustics made it very difficult to hear across the table, service was average, very expensive for this average experience.
We are new to Indian cuisine in general and the waitstaff helped us out immensely. Every dish picked for us was delicious. Would come back again in a heartbeat.
There are plenty of Indian restaurants that have good food but Amber is one of the few that offers a fine dining experience. Everything we had was delicious but we particularly enjoyed the assorted vegetable platter and mirchi ka gosht. Service was attentive and quick.
My husband is super picky about seating - like super picky - and this place worked for us! The tables are appropriately spaced so your not right up on top of your neighbor like so many restaurants today. The service was great, the menu has tons of delicious options and the food was really good. Oh - and the drinks were stiff and tasty! I will def. go back!!
Very few options in buffet compared to amount charged. Only pakode in starter n in desserts only 2items. Was expecting more as already charging high compare to other restaurants offering buffet.
Valentines Day. Good food. Great ambience.
Impeccable service, delicious food. We had the Valentine Day’s special and it did not disappoint! We love Amber!
Amazing tasty food and great ambience . Good amount of choices of drinks. Plenty of options for vegetarians.
On the whole, most of the food in the buffet was very tasty, the waiter was good, the ambiance was nice - pleasant atmosphere.
Unfortunately, I think they forgot that I said it was my friend's birthday and so they did not bring a dessert with candle, as promised.
Some of the curries in the buffet were too spicy but were not labeled as such. It would be good to know which ones are very spicy and which ones are not.
