We stopped by during restaurant week for the balken unlimited small plates....everything was AMAZING!! One of our new DC favorites for sure!!! We loved the balken salad, beet salad, shrimp kabobs, salmon, and drunken muscles, we tried about 11 different items on the menu, all were wonderful!! We will definitely be returning, maybe even this trip :)

for a party of 6 at dinner time and with so many items from the menu being tried, the staff was great. They pay attention and work well together. For a situation that could have felt crowded and overly busy and it never did. The menu has great variety and dishes to appeal to many different dietary styles. Everyone at the table found things they want to get again and new ones to try next time. An all around great experience.

The food was good and the service was good too. It was quite noisy on a Sunday afternoon.

We didn’t get the right orders, but the food was good. The bathroom is pretty gross.

The food and drinks were fantastic. It was an amazing anniversary dinner, we both loved it. There were so many food choices that we both found something we wanted. Overall it was a great experience.

Restaurant week was a treat. The lunch small plate special was such a value and a great way to taste a wide variety of Balkan fare. The server was helpful, informative and delightful. This was our first stop on the trip and definitely was a fabulous start.

Great neighborhood cafe/restaurant to try something new! Food and service was fantastic; a must try. If you are doing the "all you can eat tapas", make sure to leave yourself enough time to enjoy the menu (a typical European dining experience takes 2+ hours).

Ambar is always excellent. We love the small plates. Especially after having overfull dinner plates at your neighbor restaurant, Lavagna. The first thing we noted about Ambar was its creativity, interesting combinations

Food is better when it's not really, really busy. I felt like things were not cooled as well as normal.

Wonderful food and wonderful staff!
First time dining here and I would have to say that I'm impressed.
(I made sure to make a reservation beforehand, just in case.)
From the time we were seated until we finished our meal, we did not have any moments where we had to wait or look for our server.
Our food came out in a timely manner.
My friend and I will definitely be coming back.

My brother was visiting from NY and my girlfriend joined us. They have never been to the restaurant. They loved the ambiance, food and the ladies enjoyed the handsome wait staff. Our server seemed overwhelmed. The manager was very nice and picked up the slack of our server. He was very handsome. We enjoyed the food and had a great time!

Our second time here, this time with visiting family. I was a little concerned that I had oversold how awesome this place is to our guests, but they far exceeded our expectations once again. Great suggestions on the Sunday brunch entree selections from our server Sean, and unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Marys put everyone in a great mood. Another table visit from the manager Christian to insure everything was perfect. Overall a great experience.

Wonderful and different. Balkan food. Huge menu, with a wide variety of food choices: fish; beef; beef; lamb; and vegetarian. Mild to spicy. Mostly small plates to share and three large plates. Its $35 for as many small plates as you want; $10 more if you also want one of three very good house wines (all you want). Slightly different menu for DC vs. Clandenon.

Out server Laura/Lauren (can’t exactly remember) did a great job handling our rambunctious group of 6. Drinks were great, food was great, and they put up with us until we were the last ones there. My bf & I love this place & we will keep coming back!

We came to this place not knowing what to expect. We were very pleasantly surprised when we bought the all you can eat lunch. We ordered about 10 topus and every single one of them were spectacular. Freshly made expertly handcrafted and absolutely delicious and every detail.

I went with the All You Can Eat option. It was one of the best restaurants I’ve been to. A large variety of food and everything I tasted was delicious.

I sent photos to friends and co-workers recommending it. Unfortunately, I live in California so can’t frequent this restaurant as much as I’d like to.

Enjoyed the Ambar Experience; a way to sample extensively at moderate price fixed. Various Balkan foods served tapas style. Very good service including help in selecting dishes. The food was excellent; we are already talking about returning on our next visit to DC.

This is the second time we have eaten at Ambar's in the past month and it was as good as the first time! We had the all-you-can-eat special and every item was outstanding. Because the portion sizes are small, we were able to try many of the items on the menu. I strongly recommend this plan for $35. Our wait staff was great both times and very helpful in guiding us through the Balkan menu.

Our table of six celebrated a friend's 80th birthday. Ambar was a superb choice: great food and service, and when staff learned we were celebrating a Big Birthday, we got extra treats on the house: vodka aperitifs and a birthday dessert. It was a memorable evening. Thank you, Ambar

Ambar has consistently provided very good small plate dishes in the several years they've been on Capitol Hill. And now, at least when we dined there - they are offering an all you can eat lunch special of $19.99 This is an outstanding bargain and you can order anything on their menu and, if you choose, order it multiple times. Truly an outstanding deal. Go try it; you'll be more than satisfied.
