A must-do to be put on a lust if dinning experiences. We heard about Ambar in group conversation & decided to stop in & we were so glad we did. Our waiter was excellent & kept the food coming. The drinks were outstanding & the waitresses kept them plentiful as well. Not a bad Dish was served & we all left stuffed & satisfied. Desserts were also outstanding.
Wow!! What a great experience. Food was excellent and different . Tamara our waitress was so nice and helped us pick out the perfect lunch. The food was a perfect mix of traditional comfort food and high end cuisine. The prices are affordable as well. We will definitely reccomend this place.
loved this restaurant. Service was outstanding, food was great and I specially like the tapas concept. The unlimited small plates and drinks for $49 was well worth it. I would definitely return.
Insanely delicious. Everything exceeded expectations. Even the iced tea was superlative. Can’t wait to come back to try the spicy/smoky cocktails.
Ambar is always a pleasure to visit, and I have recommended it to many of my girlfriends. This past Saturday, I was celebrating my birthday and Ambar did not disappoint. I had a large party that actually expanded after I arrived, with an extra person dropping by. The staff did an awesome job accommodating our party and the many orders we requested. Our waitress (Katalina -- I believe) was very attentive and patient. There were even blankets at our table -- as we were seated close to the door --- which was very thoughtful. The food was delicious -- If I could give more than 5 stars for the food and the stellar service I would.
Ambar's Bottomless Brunch option for $39 is a pretty good deal. There are several different types of mimosas to choose from - traditional, berry, mango, etc. The food is delicious! Try the Steak and eggs and their salads, for sure! You can order as much food as you want and the small plates are easy to share. The drinks are bottomless so brunch only gets more "fun" as you stay on :) . There was a really loud group next to us the entire time, so that kinda sucked. Also, if you are vegan, vegetarian or allergic to eggs, this brunch is not for you. Our server and the chef went out of their way to accommodate my cousin's food allergies - but from the waffles to the different breads and varying eggs dishes, brunch is probably not the best option. Otherwise, it was great!
Ambar is one of the few restaurants I actually miss since relocating. So on my short weekend trip to DC, it was top of the list and it never disappoints!
Fantastic! We were a little hesitant to try Balkan cuisine, but had seen incredible reviews so we decided to give it a try. Our waiter was so awesome and recommended the Balkan Experience which is $35 w/o alcohol, $49 w/ alcohol. This gives you unlimited choice of the dishes on the menu and gives you freedom to try anything & everything without worrying about wasting money. Seeing as we had no idea what we were doing, we let our waiter choose our dishes for us and he kept them rolling. I’m not kidding when I say that I (non-conservative eater) and my three family members (ultra-conservative eaters) enjoyed every single dish we were given. Please give this place a try, you will not be disappointed!
I love this place. Food was delicious and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. Gave good recommendations and we loved the experience. Would definitely come back!
A wonderful restaurant, our favorite in Washington, DC. I cannot recommend Ambar highly enough. It’s a restaurant experience that gets better every time we attend!
Excellent, innovative dishes, good variety, and a cozy atmosphere. The only issue with our experience was having to wait almost 15 minutes to be seated even with a reservation and as others arrived later and were seated sooner.
$49 Balkan Experience was great deal
First and will not be the last experience. The food, cocktails, price was beyond my expectations. This is a gem.
Words can’t even describe how delicious EVERYTHING is at this restaurant! We discovered this place by accident, just walking by and looked the menu up. Talk about luck!
I recommend the Balkan experience, eat as much as you want for one price! We opted to skip the mixed drinks and it was only $35. Our waiter, Stefan, was awesome. He recommended starting with a couple chef selections so we could have more time with the menu. We ordered a few items at a time and whenever we had nothing waiting to come out he would stop by to see what we wanted to order next.
If you leave room for dessert you have to get the forest gnocchi. Sooooo dang good!
Our 8th time and 80 more for sure!!
Lovely as ever. The food is consistently good, and the ambiance always lends itself to a fun night out with friends. The Balkan experience dinner is literally one of the funnest gathering points in D.C.
Delicious food!! We did the Balkan Experience and really enjoyed it. The only drawback was that on weekends, there's a 2-hr time limit for each table, so we felt rushed on picking options and getting them polished off before the next round of food came. Everything we had was top-notch--just wish we could've relaxed a little. Will go again but only on a weeknight for that reason.
Friends joined that had been before but not for some time. Wonderful!
Amazing service and food. Everything on the menu was good.
This was our first stop in DC and what an awesome choice! They specialize in small plates but had an “all you can eat” option for only $49. We tore those dishes up and loved that we could try whatever we wanted. What a great intro to our nation’s capital. Our stomachs and palettes were super happy.
We chose the Balkan Experience for 4 for out of town guests. Such a lot to love about the extensive/varied menu and well-prepared dishes, served by competent, thoughtful, energetic staff. The Balkan Experience is genius.
Detractors from the evening: eating dinner on stools at a high table and the intense music level. The upstairs may be considered a bar area, but most, if not all of the patrons at tables were eating a meal.
Good but not sure I'd go out of my way for this food...Based on the reviews I had read, I expected more from Ambar. While it was good, it wasn't delicious or surprising. We tried lots of small plates - the beet salad, the veal soup, cabbage rolls, shrimp skewers, spicy sausage, dips, so that comment is not based on just one dish. There weren't any "wows" in the small plates we tasted. The restaurant was c rowded and the interior vibe is nice. Waitress was pleasant but recommended everything as special - which usually means nothing is that special. Our tab came to $116 for two which seemed reasonable, but again, doesn't make the quality/value ratio more than ordinary. For the money, I'll go back to Zaytinya next time.
Great value food and service. My daughter is vegan and although we were not sure how much of a variety she would be able to eat the were able to adapt several dishes. We chose the Balkan experience which gave us the option of trying many dishes. I highly recommend!
Outstanding value, good service, and delightful food.
Good food for good price
Always have so much fun at Ambar. The food is great and the all you can eat deal is totally worth it. I've been here many times and have always had good service!
A lovely restaurant. I love sharing small dishes. Several of the dishes were fabulous. Some were meh. Service was nice.
AMAZING AS ALWAYS! Strongly recommend the $49 bottomless deal. It is entirely worth it.
What a fantastic evening, Chef Ivan and team prepared the "endless", chef prepared dinner and we had wonderful samplings of flavorful food and drink come all night. The best way to experience Balkan cuisine. The blend of spices with the meats & veggies made each dish amazing. I brought 4 friends who really enjoyed the Balkan experience and the staff are very knowledgeable and explain each dish as if you are in their kitchen at home. Thank you Chef Ivan and team for a great night. See you soon when I return to Washington DC.
It took REALLY long to get our food and our drinks. Food was great when it arrived, though. Server attentiveness could be improved--A LOT.
Fantastic food, friendly service, comfortable environment, and an amazing value! Honestly, I couldn't recommend it more highly.
Always a fun time and the drinks are great but during several recent happy hours, the dishes were so much smaller, it seemed, than in the past. For example, the hummus was just a few tablespoons worth. This was a disappointment- now I wonder if I should return for happy hour or just do lunch or dinner in the future instead.
Better than expected. Loved the hummus and dessert. Natasha provided great advice and service
our table of 3 got the $40 Balkan experience and ate like pigs (everyone has to get it). All-you-can-eat from their entire tapas menu, and all you can drink from a compact cocktail, wine, and beer menu. It was super fun, and our waiter was very friendly. The place was slammed so we ordered 10+ plates every time, so we wouldn't run out of food in between the waits. It's tapas, so the plates are small, and ~10 at a time was just right. Definitely the way to go, not having to worry about which things to try (many unfamiliar dishes). My favs were the meat pie, brussel sprouts, and cabbage.
The food is unique and delicious and the wine list is interesting. The staff are always so friendly--even when our toddler had a tantrum on one occasion. The staff were unfazed by his tantrum, extremely supportive and even entertained him. We have always enjoyed eating at the restaurant and it is always a very pleasant experience.
The hostess was rather disheveled, and there was a mix-up with our reservation/table, so we didn’t get seated until 45 minutes after our reservation time. The status of our table was poorly communicated which lead us to be rather irritated. It was a rocky start, but after that, everything was wonderful.
The food & drinks were phenomenal. The pork tenderloin and roasted pork dishes were two of our favs. Love the variety of dishes! We were disappointed no desserts were offered in the unlimited meal. Our server was pleasant, but not overly friendly. She didn’t crack a smile until we ordered dessert and cordials that were excluded from dinner.
I would definitely come back. It was the perfect place for 3 girlfriends to catch up.
The service was fast and quick! We tried most of the brunch menu between our entire party and everything was great. We definitely can't wait to go back!
Great good, great staff. We opted for the Balkan experience for an all you can eat sampling of the menu and bottomless drinks. The Bloody Marys are smokey with a little spice. The only down side was that something was wrong with the plumbing so you had to go next door to use the restroom.
This was a 30th birthday surprise for my daughter. It was awesome! She my son-in-law and I had a blast. So much great food with the ability to try so many things. Will absolutely go back again when I am in town. Thank you Ambar! Lorraine
We had the Balkan experience which was amazing. Both the service and the food quality were outstanding. We will definitely be back again.
We just let our waitress do the ordering and every item was out of this world.
