Came here for dinner on my own during a recent business trip to DC. I had a reservation and was seated promptly upstairs, preferring a table to sitting at the very nice bar. My server, Nina, greeted me very warmly and provided me with some recommendations from the menu. Since it was just me, I chose to order a la carte instead of the all you care to enjoy option. I very much enjoyed the Ambar Fries (Nina's excellent recommendation), the leek croquettes, the spicy pork sausage, and the lamb medallions. All of it, yes, all of it was delicious! The fries were large, crispy on the outside yet hot and flaky on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. They came served on an aged cheese spread that was fabulous! The croquettes were deep fried goodness with oodles of onion-y filling within. The spicy pork sausage came sliced in a flavorful stew with diced carrots and green peas. And the lamb medallions were very juicy, lightly drizzled with a pomegranate sauce, and served with a sour cream sauce for dipping. It was all wonderful! I perused the dessert menu, but chose to skip it as I was happily fed and very content. However, Nina felt that I needed a little something, so she gave me a two piece order of deep fried sourdough covered in Nutella with a thinly sliced strawberry accompaniment. It was delicious and a very thoughtful and kind gesture. I was so pleased with my meal and overall experience that I messaged a colleague to come here for dinner the next evening. I really hope that she did. Thank you Ambar and thank you Nina!

There are other restaurants in DC that have the same $40 all you can eat/drink special but Ambar’s food and service surpasses all of them. Nicely done!

Brunch was what I was expecting. The food was decent for a bottomless brunch, but nothing amazing. The service was good, and overall a fun, relaxed atmosphere; so we had a good time.

Great food, great environment. A little expensive for what it is but if you do the unlimited it is well worth it. We had a great time! I especially LOVED the Brussels sprouts! They were amazing!

Really enjoyed this dining experience. Definitely better to go with more than one other person, I've found 4 to be the best group size because you can all taste each plate and get to try the most things. Great service!

Visiting dc with the family and wanted to try something near the Capitol. The tapa style food presentation was great for us as we are all adults and shared everything. We got there and were able to have happy hour drinks which helped with her bill. Great food, drinks, service. It seems noise level is always a problem no matter where we go in the city.

Loved the "Ambar experience" it's $35 food only unlimited. Small bites but you get to try numerous things from spreads, sausages, mushroom crepes, pizza, stuffed cabbage, shrimp skewers....Though dessert is extra - the Forest Gnocchi is a must! It is the most unique dessert. Our server Milia was great! Even tried Serbian wine which was a different varietal than we have ever had - Prokupac. Was blended with Cab - very good. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Birthday lunch for a friend who had never been to Ambar before. We chose the lunch express where we could order as many dishes as we wanted at a set price. We enjoyed eating mussels, mushroom pilaf and other tasty dishes. To top it off, Ambar served a birthday dessert to be shared. 💐 It was a memorable lunch for both of us.

This was my first visit back to Ambar in a few years. I noticed that it had become really popular, and now I understand why. The limitless menu of small plates and select beverages is tasty, fun and kind of exciting. That menu is quite big and broad, and each plate is quite small...so it encourages one to try a little of everything. We sat outside, so the noise level was minimal. Service was great! I’ll be back soon 😃

I was very pleasantly surprised at how good - and authentic - the Balkan cuisine was here. If you think you know Mediterranean or Middle Eastern cuisine and you like it, try this restaurant, it'll add another dimension to what you already know. And if you don't know, well, you must, and this is a great place to start.
