Brunch. It was great food. It takes awhile to get your food but it was good.
Friends visiting from out of town
Extraordinary food and the most spectacular service made for a perfect evening. I knew the food was wonderful but all together it exceeded my expectations.
Great service. The express lunch is fun. We didn't know what to get and let the waitress pick dishes for us. Everything was delicious.
We came to DC wanting to eat a type of cuisine that we had never tried before and that wasn’t available back home. Ambar delivered!!! If you look at the menu online, it doesn’t seem like it would be that much of a departure from ordinary food. There is no way to describe how different the flavors of all the dishes are from say, standard American fare. Each bite was loaded with extraordinarily unique flavors. Our server told us that for $40 per person, they would bring out several varieties of small plates for the table to share. I’m not sure if this is the only way to dine here, but I cannot recommend this method enough!!! Each plate was a new discovery in taste-bud heaven!! The plates just kept coming!! The lamb lasagna is wonderful as well as the slow roasted lamb and salmon with eggplant jam. Finally we were stuffed, and could not actually finish the chicken skewers because we were trying to save some room for desert. We chose the Tres leches cake which was fabulous! We will definitely one back here the next time we come to DC.
Always a pleasure to dine here! First time back after the pandemic, and it hasn’t lost its charm one bit. Urös makes for the most perfect host and welcoming, and excellent care from our handsome server. My guests enjoyed their very first time here and look forward to many future visits! Thank you!
Convenient but not exceptional. Overpriced for something like tapas.
Estuvo bien pero no extraordinaro
Excellent food and service!! We loved everything we tried. The lunch special is the way to go. Tapa sized servings and all you can eat! This place is a must!!
Food was excellent. Loved the small plates and opportunity to try many different things. We loved our server, Keagan, he was fantastic, so friendly and efficient. Can’t wait to return!
We got the $40 per person small plate experience. The food was excellent and server knew the right things to bring us, with one of us being vegan and the other two not (we let him choose what to bring us). We ended up very full and satisfied, although we were surprised there was no final sweet to finish it off. Maybe that’s not a thing with Balkan food. The ambiance was fine, we sat upstairs in a relatively bright booth across from the bar. I don’t recall hearing any music or anything that added a mood-factor. Just delicious food in a simple, clean setting.
Amazing; great food and even better service
Interesting and delicious food.
Food was amazing! Service was great - everyone not just our server helped us. Fun experience, can’t wait to come back
Moving daughter to DC
Came for happy hour and it was fantastic!
Ambar has really lost its outstanding cuisine. Unlike before where ever dish was terrific, half were just average. The salmon had no unique Balkan character at all. And, at lunch, diners are required to buy the prix fixe lunch and no dessert is included.
Great dining experience! Service was stellar. Food was great. The overall vibe of the restaurant was relaxed and chill.
First time here, and very impressed. Food and service were great. Because we sat outside on the patio, the street noise what distracting at times. Can't wait to go back.
Great way to see how Capitol Hill brunches. Fashions and Food.
Wonderful food and service!
Three of us had the all you can eat lunch for $25. What a treat. The food kept coming at a regular pace and in a logical order (spreads first, salads, veggies and then meats
Do no miss the Brussels sprouts!!
A must go to place when visiting Washington DC. Delicious food and friendly staff.
My husband and I love coming to Ambar regularly but unfortunately, had a bad experience. Many of our favorite dishes had been slightly changed; for example, the unrebes became more dry, the mussels less creamy, the salmon drier and saltier, the goulash too sweet with a new type of pasta that did not fit at all (we miss the trofie pasta from before that came with it) and some of the dishes came out tasting/looking like they had been sitting for a while and stale (even the pickles). It may have been an off night and we hope we do not experience it again, because we miss the freshness and original recipes.
On another note, since the renovation, the bottom floor and 'new' top floor really feel like an afterthought in comparison with the second floor. The bar and stalls on the second floor are really lovely and comfortable. However, if you are unlucky and sit on the first floor, you hear noise/music from the kitchen, and its dark. And the top floor has hardly any decoration, the tables/chairs are uncomfortable, and it looks like a lightly decorated attic. It's just a suggestion, if any of the owners read this, to try to put more effort into the ambiance/comfort of those floors. If not, it really feels like the pre-renovation setup was better.
Apart from this, the service at Ambar is really spot on, and we hope to come back and enjoy the dishes we love, in their original yummy form and freshness!
Because of the high ceilings and hard surfaces, conversation was actually quite difficult even with the few customers. In short, the noise level was LOUD.
Other than that, the experience was great and I plan to try the Arlington location soon.
I would advise against sitting in the roof area. Second floor bar is where it’s at :)
Also, if you want to make the most of the bottomless drinks, go with wine. The cocktails are delicious but not very strong.
Can’t wait to go back! The food is outstanding. The dips! The fried chicken! The cauliflower! Literally it’s all incredible.
The food was Room temp
Food was delish and service was great!
First time enjoying Balkan food, was very impressed, will definitely go back.
Wonderful experience, impeccable food, there was absolutely nothing I didn’t love. Highly recommend.
Cute spot, delicious food and drinks! Good service, left feeling full and good!
Enjoyed our first brunch back at Ambar since the pandemic began. The service was prompt and we felt safe dining outside. Although the menu has been pared down a bit, this is still one of the best brunches in DC! Looking forward to our next visit.
Excellent food, great variety and flavors. Drinks were okay- some cocktails great (mojito), others were just alright but not bad. Excellent experience and food though, highly recommend!
Loved it. Such a fun way to dine out and try a ton of different food. Everything was very good, and a few dishes were amazing! GREAT value, fun and deserves the accolades
We enjoyed ourselves! I do feel that we were ignored a bit since we dined outdoors and therefore missed out a bit on drink and water service, but we all enjoyed nonetheless!
The whole experience was not good from the start. We were giving the worst table shared with Matchbox which is in a very dirty tent. Waiter was nice but not helpful. He check on us us twice only while we had the unlimited dinner and drinks experience. Third time he came he told us that this is last call for drinks and food and we have to order in 5 minutes!!!! And then they never brought my food.
This place is so much fun! Great food and great service!
We decided on the flat rate price so that we could try as many things on the menu that we wanted. It was fantastic! The mussels were some of the best I've had, the fried chicken, the cauliflower with parsley hummus...I could go on. It was a great meal that we were so glad we had. Already recommended it to a few folks. Will definitely be back.
Absolutely incredible food!
