Food was okay. The yuca didn't have any seasoning and was fried a bit hard. The chicken was tender but didn't wow me either. The seating was awful for me, hard small wooden benches. Overall, it was an okay experience. I wouldn't recommend to friends or come back, there's too many outstanding restaurants in the city, this is nothing special.
The ambience is wonderful. It is like taking a little trip to a hip town in South America. The service is incredible. Our waitress was very friendly and full of information about the dishes on the menu. The food was great but I was not completely blown away by the combinations of some of the meals. For instance, I didn’t feel that ravioli was the perfect choice to serve with oxtail. But we still loved our dishes and would definitely go there again. There was a pleasant family feel to this trendy restaurant.
We stumbled upon this place. Although the inside was a bit dark and narrow, it was actually quite comfortable. The food was inventive and delicious, portions were generous, and drinks were as good as the food. We'll be back.
Simply the best! Although we had an initially long wait for our waiter, we were prepared for that wait thanks to information from the host. The food is knockout, care is infused in every component of Amaru. We had an amazing date night and were treated like kings.
We've been going to Amaru for several years now, and we have been impressed with every meal. Their food is delicious and we love their creative recipes. They also have a number of interesting cocktails. We make sure to get a sampling of both food and drinks. The service was also very friendly and attentive.
I was disappointed that they were out of the "Ojo de Bife", but overall the food was delicious, and the drinks were also excellent.
Great little place! Service is top notch and food was delicious!
Very delicious food and excellent service! Highly recommended!
Just amazing. The service was great, the food completely hit the spot. Not a bad item on the menu
Everything bonkers good / best branzino I've had.
Food was soooo good! Tried a lot of dishes and everything was good, would definitely go back.
This is the third or fourth time I've been to Amaru, and it's always fantastic. The food is straight-up tasty...incredibly good value for the price, too. We went for brunch recently and got the bacon-wrapped plantains, french toast, and oxtail benedicts, among other things, and each item was really good.
We had a fantastic experience at Amaru. We made reservations for a group of 9 and the table was ready for us when we arrived. Our server was wonderful and provided us with a lot of great recommendations across the menu. We just ordered a bunch of sharable plates and every single thing we ordered was fantastic. My dinner highlights were the seafood empanada, coconut rice, and plantains.
This is our second trip to Amaru. Our party of 6 ordered every appetizer on the menu and all of them were delicious. The tuna and watermelon ceviche was my favorite. We capped it off with two fantastic desserts. The key lime dessert was fantastic. Definitely will be going back for a third time. Cheers to a super fun evening!!
Best food i’ve had in a while! Great service as well.
What a wonderful experience! The drinks were outstanding and everything we ordered was delicious. Our server Marely(?) was great. She had great recommendations and was very attentive. We would definitely go back
Fun little spot in Wicker Park. Our waitress was so positive and fun. We enjoyed the polpo, gnocchi (they’re GF. Made from yuca so my husband was in heaven), I had the vegetarian oxtail stew ravioli. They subbed parsnip purée for the oxtail and the dish was delicious. My husband had the branzino and enjoyed it. The tres Le he’s was another gf treat. It was really good. The Mexican chocolate tart didn’t have much flavor for some reason. Overall, a casual fun place to enjoy if you’re in Wicker Park.
Nice place! Had the omlette. Was quite delicious. More vegetarian options on the menu would have been great.
Great food. Everything was plated very pretty and tasted great. Drinks were good too! The server was so nice and friendly. We would love to go back!
Food and service were excellent. Very attentive. Mojitos were disappointing. Salad was excellent and fresh. Ceviche was delicious. Steak was tender and well presented. I would return— but would have a different drink
Great food & drink at Amaru! Highly recommend and will definitely return!
Amaru was awesome! We had the Holy Water cocktail which was really good. We also tried a few dishes to share and everything was delicious. I would definitely go back!
From appetizers to dessert, very high quality meal for less than we’d expected to pay! Delicious food and everyone was so kind and the kitchen was freakishly fast!
We absolutely love Amaru. It may be one of the best restaurants in Chicago (that we've been to, at least!)! This was our fourth time going over the course of two years, and each time we've been has been a wonderful experience with different friends and family, who are always all equally delighted. We've also recommended Amaru to many friends and have heard nothing but great reviews from them, too. The food is EXCELLENT and very fairly-priced--you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The drinks are so fun and delicious! And each time we've been, our server and hosts have always been so friendly. If you are looking for a casual but fun place to take friends, family, or yourself, check out Amaru for an amazing experience.
Disappointed- two out of three dishes were good. Limited menu. Ambience bleak with make shift Covid shields really making it look odd.
It was amazing! I went with a bunch of friends from Chicago who had never heard of this place and we all loved it! For sure a hidden gem!
The Bye, You is the best cocktail I’ve ever had and I’ve had some good cocktails. The service was outstanding and every dish delicious. We had the ceviche, pulpa, gnocchi, and cheesecake. I would get Every single dish again.
I celebrated my birthday at Amaru and had an absolutely amazing time. The staff was so sweet and helpful - truly great service. The food and drinks are out of this world and the restaurant is super cute and quaint. I can’t say enough good things about my night here! Definitely a hidden gem in Chicago
Excellent food and service, 3 small plates and 1 entree was perfect for 2 people. Well-priced.
The quality of the food far outweighed the somewhat less-than-ideal seating arrangements/comfort. Our waitress was very good and had a great personality.
We had the bacon-wrapped, chorizo-stuffed plantains, and I would absolutely suggest everyone get them! The waitress even said, "It's by far the best thing on the menu." We followed with the terrific octopus and then shared the 36-oz ribeye. It was spectacular! Cooked perfectly, presented nicely, and the flavor was fantastic.
Thanks, Amaru, for a great dinner to celebrate our 29th anniversary!
Had a group dinner with 8 friends and it was fantastic! All of the food was delicious (we ordered almost everything on the menu)… well seasoned! The cheese spread, ceviche, octopus, burger, branzino, and oxtail were the group favorites. Loved the Palomas (cocktail) and tres leches, key lime, and cheesecake were all delicious. Our server was delightful and the restaurant had a great atmosphere! Highly recommend.
Best food I’ve had in years. Great service. Top 5 spot in Chicago tbh
Get the octopus!
The bye, you! Cocktail is one of the most amazing, delicious and complex cocktails ever! Josh was attentive offering samples of the main, rare Asian liquor called Bijan (?)as well as MamaJuanas at the end of our meal. The pinions are not too be missed as neither are the oxtails with goat cheese ravioli! The pork Milanese was giant and delicious, though perhaps the breading a bit too salty. I was with a non- pescatarian friend and had to pass up pulpits and ceviche del dia. I thought the mojito was average. Coconut Tres Lechese dessert was delightful!
Incredible food. Watermelon tuna seasonal ceviche was so delicious, the watermelon went so well with the dish. Bacon wrapped plantains with chorizo. Yes! Oxtail ravioli was also fantastic. But our favorite was the seafood empanada. Some of the best empanadas I have ever had. Excellent very nice service. Thank you Amaru
Great drinks, unique, well priced food.
What was thought to be just a casual dinner with friends over-delivered on service, food, and drinks - would go back!
A hidden gem and one of the best meals I’ve ever had in Chicago!! We loved getting Amaru takeout during the pandemic, and it was even better in person. Highly recommend the piononos, requeson, entrana, and pollo al carbon. Cocktails were tasty and creative with generous pours. The server was very helpful with accommodating for a food allergy and the chef even brought out the dishes himself to confirm.
The key lime dessert was overly sweet, especially the meringue
The yellowtail cerviche didn’t seem fresh
First time here. Met a friend at the bar around 530pm on a Wednesday. It was quiet at that time and we found a seat very easily. Bartender was friendly and attentive. We ordered many glasses of the Carmenere, and ate the requeson, seafood empananda, and pulpo. If you like lemon desserts, you will like the Floridita key lime "pudding" Everything was delicious. I will definitely come back here.
The food, the service, and the ambiance were all spectacular! I am still thinking about the bacon wrapped plantains. They were delicious.
