The food was great but everyone was eager to close and get out even though we had a later reservation. I watched the bartender talk to his 2 bar guests rather than make drinks for the restaurant. It took well over 10+ minutes to get first drink in hand while watching the bartender actively just not make them. Not sure how this place has such high ratings, maybe a good spot for the neighborhood and overall ok but would not return and would not recommend to others.

In town for a concert, made it a point to go back to Amaru after an outstanding dinner last year. This meal was terrific, and so was the service. Don’t miss Amaru.

Wow, what happened to Amaru? This was one of our favorite restaurants, but something has changed. New chef perhaps? Each dish we ordered showed poor kitchen work and a real slip in food quality - yuca frita was so covered in salt we were brushing it off with napkin, the requeson was burnt (not just a little char on edge, which is good, but burnt and then served burnt side down so as not to show), there is no way the Milanesa was a pounded tenderloin, because it was hard as a rock and it too was significantly burnt and then flipped over to cover it, and the steak special of the day served with rice was not steak - it was fatty cheap cut, probably a pot roast-type, and the rice it was served with was so bland it reminded me of school food. One ray of light was the bartender who always puts an awesome shake on the caiprinhas is still doing his thing - but even three of those couldn't salvage this train wreck. I hope the problems are fixable, because we really love(d) Amaru, but not sure I'll ever know, as I am reluctant to do this again. Final note - I tried first reaching out to manager in less public forum to share our experience, but heard back nothing - so here it is for the world to see - such a disappointment.
