About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for fine wines
Amarone is a unique independent Italian restaurant situated in an elegant Georgian building that was once home to Richard ‘Beau’ Nash, the renowned socialite. Enjoy delicious freshly prepared pasta dishes, locally sourced steaks, fish fresh from the Dorset coast, as well as stone-baked pizzas and delectable desserts. The wine list has been carefully compiled from primarily quality Italian family estates, to perfectly complement the traditional Italian cuisine. We are the only restaurant in the southwest to offer the delicious wine of its namesake by the glass, as well as the bottle.

Decent food and great service. Could have been better value for the price and there was a big service charge and tax making it more expensive than anticipated.

The food was very tasty and the service was good but we all felt it was quite expensive for the dishes served. Perhaps if there was a great range of differently priced dishes that would be helpful.

We’ve visited before so we knew the food would be good. Unfortunately we had a wrong main order arrive but rather than wait for the correct dish to be cooked, we accepted the wrong dish. The waiter was most apologetic but no attempt was made to make amends by reducing our bill of this one plate of food, which we believe would’ve been the right thing to do as we had saved the restaurant of wasted ingredients.

Promised 15 layer Lasagne with an Amarone ragu What arrived was not 15 layer but 3 lots of rolled up pasta with 2 small morsels of beef which had to be found. The rest of the pasta was cheese and white sauce and soggy. Not palatable. Manager brought another lasagne and a bowl of ragu meat to make my own “ lasagne” which did not work. Waiter was very polite and took meal off bill. This was a holiday meal very disappointed as we were off to the theatre afterwards. I could not eat this mess of a pasta.

We booked Amarone as a result of the sheer number of high reviews. They were all right. We arrived to a very warm welcome. Our server was engaging and made us feel the the only people in the place. We had a very good table, often not the experience of women dining out. The food was excellent although the charcuterie was a bit sparse for £12. All in all it was great and I will definitely ear at Amarone with other friends. Molto Grazia!

Lasagna was excellent. Fresh made pasta is the only way to eat Italian. Ox tails were delicious and tender. The staff are fantastic.
