Such a great spot. Nice ambiance, friendly knowledgeable service and great fresh food!
Uniquely San Franciscan neighborhood gem with outstanding food, friendly and attentive service from the owner and his staff, in a beautiful and intimate setting.
Dinner was for two birthdays and a wedding engagement announcement.
Went with my family for my father-in-law’s birthday and it was a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding.
Love this restaurant! Adorable neighborhood spot in Russian hill. The portobello appetizer with blue cheese crostini was amazing. Party all had pastas, all were happy with choices. I had the pasta with seafood, which I loved. Service was lovely, although there was another gentleman (manager?) who kept coming over to try to move us along. I don’t know why, as there was nobody else waiting for tables. Great wine list with lots of choices. I will definitely return!
With out a doubt the best restaurant in SF serving authentic food from Italy.
Love everything about Amarena. Owner and staff are all super friendly and helpful. Food was delicious, we had a party of 5. Everyone loved their pastas and appetizers. Can't stress enough about their service though, you feel welcomed and the owner comes around and talks to everyone like they are friends.
Waited 30min before server/owner came to take our order. No apologies or offers to make up for the neglect. We were only given water in the meantime. Bread wasn't brought until after our order was placed. Food was good but service was horrible (even for a Wednesday 8:45pm reservation). Wont be back or recommend.
Our favorite neighborhood gem. Food and service is great. Great wine selection too.
Great wonderful homemade Italian pasta!
Food was fantastic. Plenty of fish and vegetarian options. Staff was knowledgeable and very helpful
I ordered the meatballs and they were bland. I got the lamb shank, which was the special, and it was bland. The worst part though was how slow everything was. We were sat well after our reservation time. We got menus well after we sat. The appetizer took forever to come out. The entrees took forever to come out. The waitress was nice.
Six of us had a great meal. Appetizers of burrata and bruschetta were great. The entrees of assorted pasta, risotto and veal were great. The dessert choices of tiramisu and the chocolate salame were pretty good. Our server was very patient and attentive. Special request for a child was handled easily.
Red wine was stored at room temperature which is nice to look at but I’d prefer something out of a cooler. The bathroom curtain thing didn’t work for me.
Outstanding food and hospitality. Vary charming restaurant
Excellent food! Every last item!
Excellent service by the all Italian staff. You really do feel like you've walked into a small local place, which it is!
Haven’t been back here in a few years and was pleasantly surprised that it has improved as to food quality and value. Nice wine by the glass choices. Great arugula salad we shared, and my salmon entre was great and generous. Except for our seat next to the toilet, all was great.
Cozy local restaurant with nice wine and great food. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Portions are perfect size so that you can enjoy several courses.
Great food, friendly & accommodating staff. The butternut raviolis were the best thing I’ve ever tasted
Super friendly staff. Real Italian!
Neighborhood gem! Cozy with friendly service. Food is amazing.
Amazing food! Friendly staff and cozy ambience. One of the best pastas I ever had.
Fish was fantastic. Environment was very cozy.
It’s was wonderful !!! Can’t say anything negative only amazing positive. Good and atmosphere just perfect
Food very good and service friendly and warm. The space is a little funky.
Great food and service. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Unbelievably delicious- hidden gem!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere - everything was totally delish, and the wait staff were appropriately attentive - we had the cucumber salad, the beet salad, the mushroom truffle pasta and the butternut squash ravioli. The servings were the right size, and they were healthy and fresh. Would totally recommend this place, everything we tried was great!
Such a gem, lovely food and service
Terrific food and service as always🤩
The owner and staff were very welcoming and attentive. The food was outstanding. If you go, don't skip dessert!
The kind of place every neighborhood should have!
This is a neighborhood restaurant a little off the beaten path in San Francisco. It is tight quarters, but it is very quaint and even as busy as it was, the staff was attentive and everything came out of the kitchen in a timely manner. The food was delicious, the staff was appropriately authentic Italian and overall it was a wonderful experience. Like most places we ate in San Francisco, it was noisy, but we come from an area that is mainly retirees so that's probably why it seemed loud to us.
We had a large party of 13, and service when we initially sat down was timely and efficient, i.e. we received our drinks and appetizers. They came back to take our order, but then it seemed to take a long time for our entrees to come out. Overall, everyone's choices were tasty, but too salty. My adult son ordered the chicken, and he commented later that it was a bit dry, like it had been microwaved to heat it up again. Some of the entree portion sizes were on the smaller side (like the chicken), which would have been fine if one also ordered a first course pasta dish.
Since I liked the ambiance, I would try this restaurant again, though with a smaller group, to give them the chance to make the food with less salt.
Fantastic ambience and service. Food was excellent with great flavours and choice. I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting
Authentic Italian restaurant with good food and a very welcoming staff!
Best Italian food in San Francisco. Great service and wine list
I’ve been going to this place for the last two years and it used to be one of my favorite restaurants in SF. I was surprised of how much the quality has gone down since our last visit. The waitress brought us the wrong wine, and forgot my food for which I had to wait for another 15min while my husband already had his. The food in general was very average, definitely not what I was used to. The noise has always been overwhelming, and the tables are far to close to each other, things I used to overlook because the food used to be wonderful. However after this experience I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back.
Early beats the crowds
Great ambiance and dining experience...
Great sea bass
Perfect place for date - quite, soft lighting and cozy atmosphere
