   Our friends had never dined at Amarena before and we hadn't been for years so it was a real treat to introduce them to such a fun, neighborhood spot with the most delicious Italian food. Three of us started by sharing the bruschetta which was fresh and flavorful. I chose the gnocchi alla sorentina for my entree and it was fantastic! My husband loved his bucatini all'amatriciana. Our waitress was very nice, professional and personable. Thank you Amarena, we will be back!

   Our 2nd time wonderful service great menu.loved the linguini ala scoglio lots of seafood and all fabulous w great red sauce. Didn't love the bread but dipping sauce nice. The special squid ink risotto also had fab seafood- but missing the ink flavor altho it was black. -we will be back - last time had papparedelle Chingiale which was also great!! we sat outside and the heaters may be the best we have experienced.

    We loved this gem of an Italian restaurant. We especially liked the "paccheri dell'alpino" which was tube pasta with smoked prosciutto, sundried tomatoes, arugula in a creamy madeira sauce. Memorable food and romantic ambience.

    Lovely little neighborhood Italian bistro with a good, large menu. There are plenty of options. The staff is very nice. It was a little noisy the night we were there, but that's because it's a small, cozy space.

    Amarena is hands down my favorite Italian restaurant in San Francisco. From the ambience to the service to the quality and deliciousness of the food everything about this restaurant is 5 stars. The owner is friendly and always very welcoming. I hadn’t dined here in a few years and he remembered me which just shows how good he is at being a restaurant owner. This place is great for dates, anniversaries, special occasions and just if you want an amazing meal with amazing service! The butternut squash ravioli is my go to dish.

    Great local, neighborhood restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and attentive. The Osso Buck was very tender and full of flavor. The meat was so tender that it feel off the bone and I didn’t have to use a knife. Their tiramisu was also delicious so make sure you save some room for desert. Park can be difficult at times but the work is worth it.

    The gnocchi that they served me was raw undercooked cold dough covered by some kind of cold foul-tasting sauce. My request to send this ghastly entrée back to the kitchen was met with not a shred of kindness. We have been “regulars” at Amarena, but we will not be returning again.

    I booked a reservation but when we turned up they had no tables. There were 4 other parties of people waiting outside and no one greeted us or acknowledged us for ages. When we finally sat down we had to ask for menus as these weren’t given to us. When the bread for our starters came out I asked for some oil & vinegar for dipping which never materialised. When our mains arrived they were both cold and felt like they’d been sat out for a while, they did warm mine up but it was fairly obvious they had just microwaved it. When they brought my main back again they didn’t bring cutlery so I had to go up to the bar and get it myself as there were so few staff available. It seemed like a really busy night with not enough staff so I think it could be better on another day, but can’t say it was good value for money.

    The reviews are far more flattering than our experience. The salad was heavily dressed in an average balsamic vinegar, very little oil and too much added salt. The produce was a B minus. The seafood risotto special was mediocre. When we commented on the seafood, the waiter asked why, then, did we eat it all? In reality he hadn't checked to notice we barely touched it.

    Amerina is a neighborhood place and that's all to the good. Don't go if you intend to find parking. The food is good but not outstanding. The service was exceptional.
