WE ARE OFFERING HAPPY HOUR FOOD AND DRINK MENU FROM 5.30 TO 6.30 WEEK DAY ONLY
Amarena is a chic, urban neighborhood hideout perfect for dates, a quick bite, or a casual dinner with old friends. Amarena delivers hearty, innovative and skillfully prepared dishes from the first course to the last.
Best Italian meal I have had in the city - being gluten free is not your friend when you want a great Italian meal but they had GF pasta and had the truffle and mushroom sauce that was out of this world.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant. Great food and great staff. Wide variety menu and wine list. Great overall experience
Neighborhood restaurant, delicious food, good service, good value.
The butternut squash ravioli was incredible! The ambiance was lovely and romantic, great for a couple.
We made an open table reservation an hour before and arrived on time. We waited 25 minutes. Once seated, we had to ask twice to order. Salads came quickly but we waited 30 minutes for entrees. We had to remind them and they had forgotten. By this time the restaurant was almost empty. There was NEVER any apology for any of it. The worst service I have had in a long time. Will not be going back any time soon to a local favorite.
Everything we ordered was excellent. In particular the burrata app/ starter and the Osco Bucco were standouts. Service was prompt, professional and friendly. I also like the neighborhood feeling of the area vs the busy tourist areas. A caution- Osco Bucco is not available every night. Call ahead if that’s what you want.
We love this place. We had Giada as our waitress (again). Love her!!!.. she is the best!
Food was great, Lambrusco is amazing. But the service is painfully slow
Best Italian food in the city it’s a little gem don’t miss this place
This is one of my favorite restaurants in town. It is my neighborhood corner place, but even if it weren't that convenient, I would make my way here. The owner Paolo is effusively friendly and with his Italian accent, makes everything sound great. The selection on the menu is broad with old standards and unique dishes you can only find at Amarena. The pastas are homemade and fresh, the sauces are great and the wine selection is appropriate to the food.
The only concern is that it is a bit loud so don't come here if you are looking for that intimate romantic dinner. Make sure you bring your outdoor voice because you will need it. And that is because you will come here again and again so be prepared!
We go there often and it is always good, and the service is excellent.
Probably best Italian restaurant in SF. Food and service are top notch. Very authentic.
No where to park.
Great food. Close to where we staying so convenient & overall great experience.
I loved my buccatini, the first item on the primi list and will be back to have it again. The beet salad is also delicious.
Great food and service! A local gem.
We absolutely LOVED Amarena! We have a French bistro go-to, and have been looking for an Italian go-to. This is it! The service was superb, from the owner/manager/host? right down to the bus staff. The food was equally superb, and the atmosphere was just what we wanted -- warm, intimate, cozy, neighborhood-y. Everything was reasonably priced and the portions were just right -- not small, but not huge (huge = tacky). Loved it, and can't wait to go back... which we will, often!
Always send friends visiting S.F. and they refer to it as a S.F. highlight!
Fresh and delicious. Nice ambiance and the wait staff was delightful.
This neighborhood restaurant is low key and lovely. The owner is warm and welcoming. The menu is sufficiently diverse to satisfy almost everyone. The food is superb. Rich meaty lasagna with a lovely flavorful sauce was my choice. My wife chose the small plate eggplant for herself. The eggplant was perfectly cooked with a light flavorful marinara sauce complementing the dish. Our desert was Creme Brûlée which was very good but slightly less cooked than we typically expect. That did not detract from its delicate taste however. I had complimented the balsamic dipping sauce and the proprietress game us some to take home. It was our first visit and we liked Amarena so much we are bringing family there a week after that 1st visit.
Such a great spot. Nice ambiance, friendly knowledgeable service and great fresh food!
Uniquely San Franciscan neighborhood gem with outstanding food, friendly and attentive service from the owner and his staff, in a beautiful and intimate setting.
Dinner was for two birthdays and a wedding engagement announcement.
Went with my family for my father-in-law’s birthday and it was a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding.
Love this restaurant! Adorable neighborhood spot in Russian hill. The portobello appetizer with blue cheese crostini was amazing. Party all had pastas, all were happy with choices. I had the pasta with seafood, which I loved. Service was lovely, although there was another gentleman (manager?) who kept coming over to try to move us along. I don’t know why, as there was nobody else waiting for tables. Great wine list with lots of choices. I will definitely return!
With out a doubt the best restaurant in SF serving authentic food from Italy.
Love everything about Amarena. Owner and staff are all super friendly and helpful. Food was delicious, we had a party of 5. Everyone loved their pastas and appetizers. Can't stress enough about their service though, you feel welcomed and the owner comes around and talks to everyone like they are friends.
Waited 30min before server/owner came to take our order. No apologies or offers to make up for the neglect. We were only given water in the meantime. Bread wasn't brought until after our order was placed. Food was good but service was horrible (even for a Wednesday 8:45pm reservation). Wont be back or recommend.
Our favorite neighborhood gem. Food and service is great. Great wine selection too.
Great wonderful homemade Italian pasta!
Food was fantastic. Plenty of fish and vegetarian options. Staff was knowledgeable and very helpful
I ordered the meatballs and they were bland. I got the lamb shank, which was the special, and it was bland. The worst part though was how slow everything was. We were sat well after our reservation time. We got menus well after we sat. The appetizer took forever to come out. The entrees took forever to come out. The waitress was nice.
Six of us had a great meal. Appetizers of burrata and bruschetta were great. The entrees of assorted pasta, risotto and veal were great. The dessert choices of tiramisu and the chocolate salame were pretty good. Our server was very patient and attentive. Special request for a child was handled easily.
Red wine was stored at room temperature which is nice to look at but I’d prefer something out of a cooler. The bathroom curtain thing didn’t work for me.
Outstanding food and hospitality. Vary charming restaurant
Excellent food! Every last item!
Excellent service by the all Italian staff. You really do feel like you've walked into a small local place, which it is!
Haven’t been back here in a few years and was pleasantly surprised that it has improved as to food quality and value. Nice wine by the glass choices. Great arugula salad we shared, and my salmon entre was great and generous. Except for our seat next to the toilet, all was great.
Cozy local restaurant with nice wine and great food. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Portions are perfect size so that you can enjoy several courses.
Great food, friendly & accommodating staff. The butternut raviolis were the best thing I’ve ever tasted
Super friendly staff. Real Italian!
Neighborhood gem! Cozy with friendly service. Food is amazing.
