Excellent service by the all Italian staff. You really do feel like you've walked into a small local place, which it is!
Haven’t been back here in a few years and was pleasantly surprised that it has improved as to food quality and value. Nice wine by the glass choices. Great arugula salad we shared, and my salmon entre was great and generous. Except for our seat next to the toilet, all was great.
Cozy local restaurant with nice wine and great food. Service is attentive but not intrusive. Portions are perfect size so that you can enjoy several courses.
Great food, friendly & accommodating staff. The butternut raviolis were the best thing I’ve ever tasted
Super friendly staff. Real Italian!
Neighborhood gem! Cozy with friendly service. Food is amazing.
Amazing food! Friendly staff and cozy ambience. One of the best pastas I ever had.
Fish was fantastic. Environment was very cozy.
It’s was wonderful !!! Can’t say anything negative only amazing positive. Good and atmosphere just perfect
Food very good and service friendly and warm. The space is a little funky.
Great food and service. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Unbelievably delicious- hidden gem!
Great food, great service, great atmosphere - everything was totally delish, and the wait staff were appropriately attentive - we had the cucumber salad, the beet salad, the mushroom truffle pasta and the butternut squash ravioli. The servings were the right size, and they were healthy and fresh. Would totally recommend this place, everything we tried was great!
Such a gem, lovely food and service
Terrific food and service as always🤩
The owner and staff were very welcoming and attentive. The food was outstanding. If you go, don't skip dessert!
The kind of place every neighborhood should have!
This is a neighborhood restaurant a little off the beaten path in San Francisco. It is tight quarters, but it is very quaint and even as busy as it was, the staff was attentive and everything came out of the kitchen in a timely manner. The food was delicious, the staff was appropriately authentic Italian and overall it was a wonderful experience. Like most places we ate in San Francisco, it was noisy, but we come from an area that is mainly retirees so that's probably why it seemed loud to us.
We had a large party of 13, and service when we initially sat down was timely and efficient, i.e. we received our drinks and appetizers. They came back to take our order, but then it seemed to take a long time for our entrees to come out. Overall, everyone's choices were tasty, but too salty. My adult son ordered the chicken, and he commented later that it was a bit dry, like it had been microwaved to heat it up again. Some of the entree portion sizes were on the smaller side (like the chicken), which would have been fine if one also ordered a first course pasta dish.
Since I liked the ambiance, I would try this restaurant again, though with a smaller group, to give them the chance to make the food with less salt.
Fantastic ambience and service. Food was excellent with great flavours and choice. I would wholeheartedly recommend visiting
Authentic Italian restaurant with good food and a very welcoming staff!
Best Italian food in San Francisco. Great service and wine list
I’ve been going to this place for the last two years and it used to be one of my favorite restaurants in SF. I was surprised of how much the quality has gone down since our last visit. The waitress brought us the wrong wine, and forgot my food for which I had to wait for another 15min while my husband already had his. The food in general was very average, definitely not what I was used to. The noise has always been overwhelming, and the tables are far to close to each other, things I used to overlook because the food used to be wonderful. However after this experience I don’t think I’ll ever be coming back.
Early beats the crowds
Great ambiance and dining experience...
Great sea bass
Perfect place for date - quite, soft lighting and cozy atmosphere
Second time going to Amarena and I must say I have been satisfied each time. The food, ambiance and service is very good. It was a great date night destination and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
What a wonderful neighborhood restaurant we found! Amarena was just the place for our six person birthday dinner. Our host was a joy to have and he did a great job at making us all feel at home! Food was really good, nice wine selection, and definitely a place I would return to on my next trip to San Francisco. Grazie!
Amarena on a Sunday evening with friends is a delight. Fish (sole) and Pasta (seafood risotto) specials were excellent. Is couple of bottles of Italian Red and shared desserts capped off a wonderful night. Five stars!
It was good. Not too expensive. The lamb was charred a little too much and the blueberry sauce was flavorless. Plating was a mess if that matters to you. The clam linguine was really good though. Dessert creme brûlée was not set and taste was weak.
They made us order everything at once and never came around to check on us...terrible
Everything the three of us had was superb. The only fly in the ointment was when , at the end of a fantastic dinner, one of our party asked for tea
And was told that the restaurant didn’t serve tea. That is unbelievable.
A true local gem on Russian Hill, Amarena has been around for a while providing the neighborhood with a fine Italian menu and an adventurous wine list. Paolo and Giada provide expert advice and a cozy space to romanticize or chat. Save room for the salame chocolate dessert. Decadent!
Great food and great service . They only had beer and wine. Liquor would be welcome
Delicious food. Fun and lively atmosphere. A real treat.
Love this place. Welcoming and cozy. Outstanding food and service.
Fantastic neighborhood spot, loved everything about it!
Amarena had prepared a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner. I loved every meal from the 4-course dinner. My many complements to the chef for the delicious pasta, sea bass and filet mignon. The portions were just right and made the meal perfect. I plan on returning for the regular menu.
Perfect local Italian restaurant. Never a bad experience. The pasta is out of this world.... the tiramisu is so good it should be illegal! Perfect family dinner spot but also great for date nights!
Great fun. Loved our service and our server.
Our server, Tanya, might be my favorite person ever. She was so attentive, candid, and nice. 10/10 would go back!
