    We had a lovely night – the food was absolutely delicious, easily some of the best Indian we've had in a long time. The dirty samosas were a real standout! The service was warm and attentive, and everything came out so quickly – we were through drinks and two courses in under an hour however didn't feel rushed to leave which was nice as we were on a rare date night. A couple of small things to note: the table layout made it a bit tricky to share dishes comfortably, as space was a bit tight. The tables are also quite close together, so we found it a little hard to have a private conversation without feeling like we were overheard. Prices were on the higher side and a few items (like the naan) were smaller than what we’re used to at other Indian restaurants, but the quality of the food made up for it – and we understand the location likely comes with higher costs. Overall, we’d definitely come back for the food and would love to try some of the more unique dishes next time!

    Amaranta is a relative newcomer to the Hobart Indian restaurant scene and has established itself as a high quality destination in the heart of the city. The fit-out is classy yet subdued and makes the most of its modest footprint to provide a range of seating options for diners. The bathrooms are immaculate…a big plus. The quality of the food, drinks, service and background music was consistently high during our two hour lunch. Our waitperson was responsive at all times and made the effort to ensure that the spice levels of the entree and mains were consistent with our preferences. If I had two areas for suggested improvement, they would be, one, the portions of goat served were far bigger than they needed to be for ease of eating, and two, it’s winter in Hobart, not the height of summer, tell the owner/manager to ditch those flimsy shorts and get some decent pants happening…I want to see beautiful food, not hairy legs.

    Really lifts the standard of Indian food for Hobart. Staff are charming and extremely helpful with dietary requirements. Expensive but worth it for a special night out. Wine list excellent too.

    If you’re after an authentic Indian meal in beautiful surrounds and wonderful service this is the place for you. The whole experience was great, food delicious, excellent wine list, lovely service and beautifully styled decor.
