About this restaurant

BIENVENIDOS! Amantia is a new family run Spanish and Mediterranean restaurant right in Birmingham city centre, taking the ground floor and basement of the iconic Sun House. This building on Bennetts Hill was the house of the Sun Insurance offices, which were founded in 1710. The sun in our lovely iron gates is a perfect representation of the Spanish sun we all miss in UK!
In Amantia you can enjoy both traditional and innovative Spanish food; all dishes are cooked with ingredients that have been imported directly from Spain.
Come and taste one of the British favourites, chorizo, cooked in some of our authentic tapas or use your five senses when devouring our fantastic paella choices: vegetable, chicken and rabbit, seafood or black ink rice.
We also specialize in our already famous Gin and Tonic cocktails, all served in balloon glasses, as you would have them if you were in Spain!
We are definitely one of the best tapas places in Birmingham!

Fantastic paella - really authentic and choice between various ingredients. Great choice of tapas as well. We were spoilt for choice. The children's menu kept the children happy as well. The service was very attentive and helpful. We will definitely come back - there are still loads of tapas dishes to try. We all thoroughly enjoyed the meal out.

It was contemporary, value for money, wine was good, food was okay, but as regular visitors to Spain we can compare to authentic Spanish food it just needs a little step up. Overall will dine there again.

Visited Amantia and had a lovely evening in this ambient restaurant. Service and food was great. Prices slightly steep (as I'm a student) but that's to be expected. Nice taste of Spain in Birmingham.

The food at Amantia is simply delicious. Stand-out for me was the garlic chicken and the white bean and black pudding stew. The night we visited the restaurant was very quiet, which perhaps affected the atmosphere slightly but for a romantic date night was perhaps preferred to a packed restaurant. Also on the menu is delicious sangria, tasty cocktails and an excellent selection of gin and tonics. The service was attentive and certainly followed the old adage, 'the customer is always right'.

This was our first time at Amantia! There was a lively, convivial atmosphere, which contributed to a really enjoyable evening with a group of friends. We ordered a range of tapas dishes, including octopus, croquetas, albondigas (meatballs), all of which were very good! Service good too! Would definitely go again as I would like to try the gin cocktails next time!

After reading the 3 star review of this restaurant we very nearly decided to go somewhere else. I'm really glad we went anyway! I really don't understand the previous review mentioning 'cheap food'. The food was good quality and I couldn't fault the preparation at all. The dishes we had (both meat-based and vegetarian tapas) were really tasty and well presented. Portions were a good size too. In fact the head waiter saw us over-ordering and came and advised us just to order 2 dishes each initially. I was surpised that that turned out to be enough ( leaving room for the desserts, which were also delicious). We've eaten tapas plenty of times in Spain, and havd become a bit picky about it, but of the 8 dishes and 4 desserts we had I would give them all 4 or 5 stars. The service was also very good. My only quibble was we were blocked from view of the bar area (where the waiter and waitress tended to go when not serving) so it took a while to catch attention on a couple of occasions. We often go to Comida in Harborne, which is also good. I would say the food at Amantia was slightly better and range of dishes most definitely was. Comida is still a great place to eat. And of course the Comida's BYO policy makes it quite a bit cheaper. But Amantia offers a more up-market dining experience with a good choice of wines. I've only rated it 3 stars for Ambience as it was a Sunday evening and therefore rather quiet. I'm sure it would be better at busier times. Would I go back to Amantia? YES - and I can't wait!
