Uncertain if I'd recommend to friends. The food was delicious but the service was so poor it ruined the experience. We stood for 10 mins at 9PM with a reservation, staring at our empty table, then sat for another 10 mins without menus while servers and the hostess walked by multiple times. Once we got menus and a waiter, they acted like we barely existed. Had to flag them down for everything. Despite that, the food was great - highly recommend the octopus, the croquettes and the bolognese.

Waited almost 20 minutes when I had a reservation. Food was good but lacked flavor. Service was fine, apart from the hostess who was aloof and ignored her guests when they walked in. Good not great overall.

This is the third timeni went to amali, and i was unfortunately dissapointed. I went with a larger froup (in laws and parents) and were sit in the back room, which was a bit moisier and the ambiance wasnt as nice. The service was pretty bad. They were understaffed jn the back. It took 20 minutes to bring bread to the table. Durin dessert, the coffee was served ice cold. While the food was tasty,it was quite expensive for what it was.

Awesome food, portions a little small for the price. Terrible music selection though they did change it when asked. They just didn't change it to something all that great either.

Popped in for a quick lunch. My salad was over cooked and a strange blend of flavours, my partner's salad looked like an accident and she said I tasted unappetising. We ordered a side of broccoli which arrived burnt and hard. A very strange menu cooked poorly.

Small restaurants, noisy and not very great for special event. Food portions were tiny and over priced. Fish was over cooked and pasta was mediocre certainly not worth a $28 tag. Croquettes were delicious but that’s about the only standout. Waitress and service were very friendly. Certainly underperformed expectations.

Ambience was the key to this restaurant. The décor was interesting and the layout was nice with the back room.

The service was not on par for the prices they charged. Our waiter seemed nervous, raw and lacked the ability to communicate effectively with us.

The best part of the food was the garlic and potato appetizer. The main courses were bland and lacked character.

The wine list was large but expensive even for NY and it hit many areas in France and Italy.

The value of the experience was sub par.

This was our second time visiting Amali. We had heard about their great Sommelier "Frankie" who waives corkage for unusual wines that can't be purchased retail, so we returned and were excited to bring a nice wine from our cellar (a G. Roumier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru from 2005). However, Frankie was anything by friendly. I would say she was gruff, and after picking up our bottle to open it, returned to tell us that we would have to pay the $35 corkage because our wine didn't qualify. I am always very happy to pay corkage, but she was condescending and rude. (And she was wrong--I checked on Wine Searcher and this wine/vintage is not available anywhere in the US.) Because she was so rude, we didn't engage with her after that. She must have recognized that she'd been rude because at the end of our meal she came by to say that she'd decided to waive our corkage. That was too little too late. On the positive side, the food was excellent. Blistered shishitos were exactly as advertised and corn agnolotti was incredible. Also, as reviewed elsewhere, the bricked chicken was amazing, and my wife's halibut was perfectly prepared. I will still recommend the restaurant, but with reservations. Maybe Frankie just had a bad night, but her attitude really set a pall over our experience.

Amali was wonderful. The cocktails were delicious, the service friendly, the decor warm and inviting and cosy, and the food outstanding. We had between the 3 of us: drinks: red wine, white wine, a spicy tequila cocktail, a bourbon cocktail; apps: pita with a yummy spicy dip, cauliflower and potato fritters, roasted broccoli (awesome); entrees: a seafood bouillabaisse, a whole fish baked in salt (big enough for 2-3 people); desserts: strawberry shortcake, and some kind of chocolate icecream ball thing. The desserts were average, but everything else was excellent, especially the broccoli, the fish, and the spicy dip app. I wish our server had told us the salt fish which was marked as MP was $100 (we didn't think to ask) - and I guess it's ok if you're splitting it 2-3 ways but it was a bit of a sticker shock. That said, we had a great meal and I'd go back when I'm rich.

The service was horrifying, kept getting interrupted and waiter was rude and inappropriate. The food was terrible and expensive--got serviced eggs in shakshuka that were essentially soup. When I sent back, they gave them back to me still heavily uncooked. Inedible.

I have been to this place before since it is very well located for visits to the wonderful theatre at 59 East59th st. It is small and the food is very good. I usually have the chicken under the brick which is moist and tasty. It is not as crisp as it used to be and frankly I would like to see it more spiced withperhaps some hot pepper or mustard , more diavolo. But that is just my preference. Our waitress was lovely, friendly and eager to help. The hostess,on the other hand, was sullen, and unfriendly and tried to place us in the midst of four other tables when the others were empty.

This was my 4th time at Amali. The first 3 times I’ve had an incredible food experience. This 4th time I was very underwhelmed by the food. The chicken was very mediocre; the other 3 times it was amazing. Seems like there was a lot less effort put into the preparation. Even the eggplant side was pretty sub-par.. wasn’t very good and didn’t go well with the chicken. The broccoli rabe or whatever greens came with the chicken in the past was much better.

Summer corn agnolotti good but also sub-par. Not very special, not something I’d be excited to order again .. flavor was fine.. and the dish was super super small. The spaghetti is amazing (would highly recommend) and leaves you full as if you’ve had a full meal. The agnolotti was more of a heavy snack in comparison to the spaghetti I had here.

I didn’t leave with that usual feeling of “wow that was a great meal” so was slightly upset that I spent $50 on a meal that I didn’t thoroughly enjoy as much as my other visits.

I've had dinner here a number of times. Food and service are wonderful. Wine list is well-thought out. Yesterday was first time at lunch. Requested a quiet table for a business lunch, and had the entire, sunny back room to ourselves. Food was fabulous, and the day manager is a gem.

Friends had told me that Amali was a special place and I wanted to find out. Also, it seemed like a fine site for my girlfriend's birthday dinner.
The restaurant did not disappoint.
The food was excellent. Our shared vegetable croquets were a tasty and surprisingly substantial appetizer. My girlfriend raved about her squid ink pasta dish, and I was completely satisfied with my halibut entree.
The service was attentive but not overbearing. The ambiance was understatedly tasteful and the noise level quite low.
We thanked our waitress for a wonderful experience and said we would return.

It was my first time--and a good find!
Tasty Mediterranean food, service, food pricing, ambience - all get high marks.
One sour note was the (to me) excessively high priced wine list, which was extensive, but
VERY few whites under $60--not in keeping with a laid back neighborhood restaurant.

2 of 3 main courses undercooked (raw!). One of these was cold, as well. Both sent back, both came back still undercooked. Noise level extremely high. Wait service tried very hard to make us comforatable and, I believe, did all they could with the kitchen. The two dishes were not eaten and were taken off of the bill.
