Ama Ristorante at the Driftwood Ratings and Reviews
We were looking forward to spending a quiet birthday dinner with family . We thought we were at TGI Fridays with $42 filet mignon. The table next to us was so loud we could not even hear the waiter tell us the specials . The waitress asked them to quiet down , however, they were so rude They got louder. Then my husband ordered a martini that had a hair in it ..We were about ready to not even finish dinner and leave , the waiter finally told the manager who moved us for dessert in a different quiet room . At least we had 20 minutes of quiet , where we could talk and enjoy each other's company.
We thought we would try a restaurant we didn't know for Jersey Shore restaurant week. Ama was a lovely surprise. food was very good and plentiful - obviously no minimizing to accommodate restaurant week prices. Service was also excellent. A good experience overall.
We went there for restaurant week and can you believe that they 'ran out of bread'...what Italian restaurant do you know runs out of a staple food...that's like a Mexican restaurant running out of tortillas..was dissatisfied with service and final bill (still pricey even with restaurant week) not worth it.
Ama serves consistently delicious food , and the servers are professional, knowledgeable and friendly. Dined with friends, appetizers arrived in a timely manner, caprese salad was fresh , buffalo mozzarella very creamy, tricolore salad balanced with the right amount of baby arugula, endive and radicchio. Also enjoyed Salmon, Branzino and Ribeye entrees. All were cooked perfectly . Dessert did not disappoint either. From cheesecake to gelato all very yummy.
Was very disappointed this time around as it was very loud. My date also was disappointed as well as there were no lights lighting up the beach to the shoreline, something that I have seen before. And there were small children near us that were unruly and the parents didn't seem to care. I will not be back anytime soon. :(
This restaurant never fails to disappoint. From the friendly host staff to the professional waiters - this place is tops. You can't beat the view overlooking the ocean, yet the dining room is stately and sophisticated. Excellent fresh fish & delectable meats will make any dining experience one to remember.
There are two traditional dishes that are a measure of a good Italian Restaurant. These dishes are 1) Linguini with Clams. and 2) Pasta and Pomodoro Sauce. I didn't feel like clams, having had them recently so I chose the Pomdoro. What a mistake, it was terrible , tasted like it came out of a jar. It reminded me of the Goodfellows movie, "elbow macaroni and ketchup". The desserts were almost as bad, tasting like paste. Costco sells a better Tiramisu. I don't believe we will be going back or suggesting this venue to our friends for dinner.
We went to celebrate our anniversary. I had asked for a window table , but the hostess couldn't care less. I checked in a good 15min before our reservation time and was told I'd have to wait. 45min later we were seated. Our waiter was short and abrupt. We had to constantly ask other servers to pour some wine for us. The bottle we ordered was too far away for me to pour ourselves. Then food was very good. Some of the best we've had lately. Over all I'd still go back just for the food.
