Nice, cozy and very good food! All I was looking for!
Great food, excellent help with wine selection and overall outstanding service. A real gem!
Friendly staff proficient in wine pairing.
Kudos to chef Nick Kelly!
Food was top level. From the basic ingredients to overall composition of the course.
We were at a less than busy evening. Still service was top notch.
Overall value was great because the food can compete with good Italian restaurants anywhere (including Italy). And most prices were only on the medium to medium-high range.
Fabulous, again. Cheese plate was properly balanced, soft, semi soft, and hard cheese. All the right flavors, salty, nutty, blue, clean, crisp, slightly sweet, were all hit. The spagettoni and paccheri were great. The crostini was a vegetarian version this visit, also delicious. We had a pesto based spiral pasta at the table that the steak-eaters devoured. They cleaned their steak plate as well, so I'm sure they loved it. We really enjoy coming here and will keep coming back, hope their quality stays this way, their menu continues to change frequently and according to season, and their wine list and suggestions always hit the spot. It's a reliable choice when we want superior food and want to treat friends from out of town.
Very nice experience. Our first time here. A definite desire to eat here again when we return to San Francisco.
I took my friend here for her birthday - everything was top notch. Would be a romantic date spot too.
My pappardelle was really very good. I especially liked the pasta itself, which was the best I've tasted. My wife had herb-crusted salmon; that, too was very good. The pistachio gelato was excellent and my wife enjoyed her strawberry sorbet. We asked for a combination plate of appetizers -- half of the cheese, half of the cured meats. That worked out well, though the combination was priced $5 above the average of the two. [All the prices are somewhat higher than those listed online -- the menu needs to be updated.]
Food was extraordinary; service similarly comparable.
The food was excellent but our server didn’t seem to have any time to discuss questions we had about our wine choice or any other questions.
Small, friendly, lively restaurant with an attentive and knowledgeable wait staff that was able to make great wine pairing selections on the fly. The food was fantastic, although the salmon was a little bland, with extraordinarily fresh and flavorful ingredients. I will reiterate the noise level is deafening and almost impossible to have a quaint conversation across a table. Well worth the visit!
Very good food and attention to derails. The pasta was absolutely cooked right. The steak was yummy.
This place is a real find - great Italian restaurant - a classic neighborhood restaurant take Uber or a taxi or god forbid walk - you can win the lottery easier than park in this neighborhood
When we walk in We’re always greeted so warmly by the owner. The experience is always outstanding and we always recommend this Italian restaurant to be the best in San Francisco. The melon and Cotto salad we had last night was out of this world with a burst of every imaginable flavor. My squid ink raviolini took me back to the same dish I had near Lake Bracchiano. Intense flavor but amazing. My husband’s pasta dish was also very authentic. Highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for high end Italian away from touristy North Beach. Kudos to the Chef & Owner who create this wonderful taste of Italy.
We had a fantastic meal, mostly centered around the La Fiorentina, which was perfectly cooked and came with delicious sides (marrow!).
Altovino is a hidden gem! Each time we go, the food gets even better. It is the best of Italy & our local purveyors. The staff is experienced & thoughtful - an increasing rarity. The wine list by bottle or glass pairs beautifully with the food. All is well priced. Ask to eat in the bar room and/or at the bar if you want an up-tempo city feel. Ask for the dining room if you want a warmer, romantic feel. Both are great. Thanks much to the team there who make it a special experience each time.
We LOVE Altovino. Fresh, excellent quality ingredients that are prepared and presented with talent, sense of art, and professionalism. The service is top notch--prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, helpful and not intrusive. Nice wine list. We started with three excellent starters to share: summer tomato salad, anchovies, and chicken liver pate. Then one of us had the salumni platter for an entree--wow! absolutely delicious and unique. A must for any meat lover. The pasta with lamb ragu was so good it is memorable. On a past visit I had the grilled salmon and it was superb. Get ready for an excellent meal in a comfortable, neighborhood ristorante.
A premium Italian dinning experience, bravo!! 👏🏼
This was our second visit. Food was very good. Service was excellent. But the noise level was deafening. We sat in the back room which I thought would be quiet. But there were several groups of 4 to 6 people and they were all basically shouting. There was nothing to absorb the sound.
The hostess seated us at one of the best tables and the rest of the night went fabulous! All the servers were very attentive and Dean the head waiter was excellent!!
The food was 4 stars, it was good but not exceptional.
The service was good but they forgot to give us bread, asked about it, said they would bring it and never did.
The ambiance was great, very romantic style, good lighting, the main negative was the noise we had to shout at each other. Maybe some noise cancelling items might help.
The value was good.
It was to us a nice neighborhood restaurant which is good if you are in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to it though.
The food and service was absolutely amazing. This is a hidden gem in SF.
Great food, service, and ambience. Planning our next visit already.
We were disappointed at the lack of vegetarian entree options and the limited seafood options.
Surprising for an Italian themed restaurant in an area noted from fresh fish.
We always enjoy our dinner at Altovino. The staff is always so kind an happy to have us. The food is very special.
Terrific food and atmosphere. Fried olives to die for. Also they adjusted the menu a bit to accommodate our kids simpler taste.
It is not an Americanized Italian place - quite surprised to not see a Caesar Salad on the menu. Absolutely delicious. I would recommend this place to my friends, and bring my future in-law's here. Thank you for the experience!
We sat in the formal dining room at a lovely table along the wall. Just two friends getting together for dinner on a Sunday evening. We had Dean as our server, which is always a delight! He is so courteous , professional, and knowledgeable with a sense of humor that enhances the dining experience.
Looking forward to my next visit!!
The food delicious, the service most attentive, we had an enjoyable evening!
Love, love, love the food at Altovino. Service is gracious. Location is lovely. Thank you, Altovino. You are quickly becoming one of my favorite places to dine. Bravo!
The food is simply outstanding, service very attentive and considerate, overall experience could not have been better!
Great neighborhood Italian spot. Good food, healthy-sized portions and good wine list.
Nice innovative Italian food with homemade pasta and great wine list. Service was very good and
It was a great experience, my wife and I spend an amazing night and we can wait to come back.
The background is nice, great light and very romantic.
The food is amazing and they have an amazing wine selection.
The food, service and ambience were just perfect for two friends to get together and get caught up.
The pasta bolognese and lamb dish were very tasty and satisfying. The waiter was very helpful in choosing our dishes. Definately a great place for an intimate conversation.
As always amazing food and service. Claudio and this team know how to deliver such a flavorful menu and give expert guidance on wines!
My favorite in SF!
Great food and service! We loved the interior design and update to this favorite local spot.
Amazing dinner ! Thank you!
Great wine list. Fried olives not to be missed.
