Altius is our new favorite restaurant in our fair city! Although we did not have a table by the windows this time, we were seated at a very comfy banquette which still offered views of the city and the Allegheny River. Our server was incredible and the perfect degree of attentive to our needs. She happily switched out risotto (which I cannot ingest-just ask my DIL!) for the purple potato mash which was splendid with the magret de canard which was delicious. Then, the birthday chocolate bomb! OMG! So generous that they need to offer it to go! Another lovely evening at Altius! We will be back soon.
Excellent customer service. Top notch. Food is delicious!
Great food with a beautiful view of Pittsburgh skyline! Wonderful for a special birthday occasion or special night$
Amazing (again!).... Jessica and Bea continue to amaze! See you again in 8 weeks!
The atmosphere and view were both excellent. The food was well prepared and delicious. They were wonderful as far as working with me to create a special birthday dessert for my dining partner. Overall it was a great experience. The only complaint we had was that it took so long between the appetizer and the main course...over 30 minutes. The table next to us that had more people and ordered after us received their entrees before we did.
After hearing many great things about this restaurant, we finally tried it and it did not disappoint! The attention to detail is there from the moment you walk in. The service, the food, the drinks, and the view are unbeatable.
Many times with a restaurant with a view, you pay for the view but the food and service are average, but with Altius, the view becomes secondary to just how exceptional the rest of the experience is.
Great experience, Maria was our server and she knew the menu very well and we all enjoyed our dinner!
The view was stunning especially for a new visitor. The crab toast appetizer was outstanding. This was our second visit in the last month. Enjoyed an unusual dish of squid ink pasta. Excellent
Always a favorite for special occasions. We love going to Altius! Food and service is always great!
Wonderful service and ambiance. The menu and dishes are outstanding. Special little touches throughout the dining experience that make it stand out, including chef’s appertif and a brownie to go from the pastry chef.
This was one of my highlights of my trip to Pittsburgh. The service was phenomenal, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. I can’t recommend coming here enough!
Continue to be amazed at the consistently high level of service, cocktail making and menu options. The vibe is great and already look forward to our next visit.
WOW- describes the view, food, service, and entire dining experience. Highly recommended. If you are lucky enough to get a window seat, thank your lucky stars. Will definitely return.
Can't say enough good about Altius. Complimentary appetizer from the chef was amazing, meal was out of this world and very unique, bottle of wine, Petite Sirah, was perfect and reasonably priced for a five star restaurant, desserts were all handmade....again unique and again amazing. We had the blueberry pancake ball, definitely five stars. Ambiance was amazing, views were spectacular. When we left we were handed a complimentary gift bag with handmade treats in them. We do not live in Pittsburgh or Pennsylvania but would love to go back again and would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Elegant dining. Great service and views of Pittsburgh.
We had an excellent experience at Altius. The food was fantastic; my wife and I each had a fish dish, Halibut and red snapper. These are delicate, low fat fish that can very easily pass from “perfection” to “rubber” is they aren’t prepared just right. Altius knocked both of these out of the park. Perfection. The accompanying vegetables & polenta were very well paired with the fish, and were themselves cooked with an attention to seasoning, flavor, and texture that are outstanding.
We were fortunate enough to get a window table with a spectacular view of Pittsburg across the river; the view was accessible to some degree from all tables, though, as far as I could tell.
Most of all, our server (Jaclyn) was super friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to our table. The next time we are in the Pittsburg area, we will most definitely have to book a table with Altius, despite the many other excellent culinary opportunities that this city offers.
PS: the crab on toast points appetizer was also excellent!
As someone who has been to Altius a number of times--in fact each year since it has been open my wife and I have celebrated our Anniversary and Birthdays! Altius has become our "special place" as it truly is a five star experience. The food is quite literally--PERFECT--in presentation, taste, and quality! The overall atmosphere is magical as you sit on top of the Mount. However, even if Altius did not have the amazing view, in short, this restaurant would still be the gold standard that all other restaurants could only hope to be. That said, the view just makes Altius a hallmark destination for any special occasion you may be celebrating! Go and see for yourself!
It was amazing
One of our favorite Pittsburgh Restaurants. Always exceptional
My husband and I enjoyed the view while being well cared for at a leisurely dinner. The food and the service were faultless. What made it truly special (in addition to the delicious amuse bouche): when we turned down dessert, as we were too full, I mentioned that I wished desserts could be offered as mere mouthfuls. Our server soon returned with two bags, each containing a "mouthful" of a lovely brownie, which she said we were to enjoy back at our hotel. Charming and kind!
My only real complaint is that the special of the day I ordered was poor quality meat selection. It was a 16 ounce bone-in ribeye steak. While it was cooked to my liking there was way too much fat and gristle. Out of the 16 ounces there was probably only 6 oz of actual meat. For the price at this upscale restaurant that is very disappointing.
Went to Altius to celebrate an anniversary and the service was greater than spectacular. Staff made us feel very welcome. Food was incredible. Views were unforgettable. Great spot on Mt. Wash!
I brought my family to Altius for my wife’s birthday. I hesitate to bring my young children to nice restaurants, but we were given superior service and felt welcomed as soon as we met the hostess.
I didn’t make any requests on my reservations, so I was pleasantly surprised with a corner window table. The views of the city skyline are amazing. Sometimes with the view, you can get by with mediocre food, but everything we had at Altius was amazing. The oysters, beef tartare, crab toast, halibut and scallops were all great. My cocktail from the bar was excellent and we picked a mid range champagne that was outstanding. I didn’t see a kids menu online but they did have options for the kids.
It was a bit pricey but not out of line for what you get. Definitely worth it for a special occasion. Service was great from start to finish. I visit Pittsburgh once a year, and I will certainly return to Altius.
The food and service was outstanding. Can't go wrong with that beautiful view of the Burgh.
Great view of the city, incredible service and food fit for foodies
Absolutely amazing, exceptional! You have done it again. Thank you. I will see you again on my next trip to Pittsburgh!
Amazing meal and Cheri was my server. She is the best server I ever had
If you're celebrating a special occasion ... this is the place to do it! It doesn't get much better than Altius in Pittsburgh. You get what you pay for from the moment you enter. For a truly romantic evening ... take the incline up to Mt. Washington; and when you get off...you're right there. The view is spectacular along with everything else. There is not a bad table in the house. We were just there for our anniversary; and could NOT have chosen a better place to celebrate! They allow you to thoroughly enjoy the evening and do not rush you through dinner either.
Noted that it was my wife’s birthday, when making the reservation, which was never acknowledged by the staff, although other patrons birthdays were. Wife’s chicken dinner was dry and had no flavor. My wife instructed the waitress that she didn’t want the potatoes because they were made with Gouda cheese and asked for double bean in lieu of the potatoes. Meal came out with the potatoes and single serving of beans. Not a very favorable experience for a Birthday dinner.
The view at Altius is breathtaking and the food makes you want to come back again.
We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The food and service excellent. A bit noisier than we wanted and we were further from the window with a spectacular view than we wanted otherwise a very enjoyable experience.
We are from New York visiting Pittsburgh for the first time. From beginning to end this restaurant was an amazing experience. We had a window seat with a fabulous view of the city and Three Rivers that make Pittsburgh so unique. The waiter provided wonderful recommendations and was charming and attentive without being intrusive. My lamb was done perfectly with homemade herb gnocchi that I still think about. And my husband’s duck was tender and delicious. The Peach Variation dessert was delightful and my only regret was that I could not finish it!
I dined with my wife on September 2 in celebration of our anniversary. We found the food and service to be quite good and complimentary to the reputation for those qualities.
We were disappointed in a very obvious contradiction in the stated expectations of customer dress and behavior with what we experienced. We dine frequently in what would be qualified as "fine" restaurants and expect with the experience to present ourselves in both attire and behavior in a manner that respects other guests and the establishment. Your restaurant states similar expectations in both in the email acknowledgment of the reservation and a subsequent telephone call that was received.
During the course of our dinner, a patron was seated close to us in very casual attire (shorts and very casual footware) and we noticed other contradictions to "business casual". In addition, a group entered the restaurant with what would be considered "picnic casual" and were seated.
There also was a disturbing level of noise created by groups who were waiting to be seated. Rather than directing those persons to a suitable waiting area they were permitted to occupy the dining area.
With a dining experience in a restaurant considered elite by patrons and similarly rated by the restaurant itself, there is a total expectation that elite rules of dining will prevail, especially when they have been openly stated and distributed. The rules so stated bind the patron and the restaurant to a tacit agreement of mutual understanding.
Altius needs to acquaint itself with a commitment to general rules of behavior as well as to abiding by its own stated rules.
All I have to say is WOW. Altius lived up to the hype. Food was great, service was exceptional, and surrounding was perfect. Everything from the hostess to the waiter to the manager and bread boy was excellent. Of course the food was the best. To start off the evening we had the crab toast and steak tartare. Both were great and I was afraid to try raw beef, but it turned out to be one of the best dishes we had there. For the entree we had the porkchop, dry-aged prime rib and the new zealand lamb chops. All the meat were so tender and melted in your mouth. The only issue we did have was that the dry-aged prime rib was a little bit too salty and it was kind of hard to eat. However, the manager came over to our table later that night and had asked us how everything was and we mentioned the salty taste of the prime rib. He apologized and gave us a free dessert for the night.
Now, the dessert was the best part. We got the 2 desserts, which was the Afforgata and a Blueberry Pancake Ball. Both were so good, that we left nothing on the plate. I highly recommend this place if you are ever in the Pittsburgh area and you should make a reservation a few days out. The portion size were big and not small like some fine dining restaurants. Price was well worth it.
Excellent service and food. Best view in the city.
What a great meal. We had the filet mignon and enjoyed it very much. The service was excellent. Also you cannot beat the view of Pittsburgh. We would recommend this restaurant as top notch!
One of the better meals we've had in a while. Excellent service and best views in the city. We dont often say this since we like to try as many restaurants as possible, but "we'll be back"
Outstanding food, excellent service and breathtakingly beautiful view of the city
Outstanding view, service and food. Great place to special occasions or evening out.
Worth it! This place is wonderful. Service was spot on (Brenna). Only minor complaints about light continuously dimming and toilet having written instructions. Overall lovely experience! Will definitely recommend and be back!
