Awesome food and great service
Retirement dinner for CTO from California. Great evening! Food amazing, service impeccable and views were stunning. Thank you, Aubrey for your help. Rob for overall service.
Outstanding views. Server was attentive and extremely well versed in food and wine. Food was exquisite.
Our son who is now living in Wisconsin brought home to Pittsburgh for the first time his very significant girlfriend. We really wanted to impress her with the city and its dining scene. Altius did not disappoint on any level. Per my request they seated us in a fabulous corner table on the upper level with amazing views. The food was fantastic and the service was impeccable and not rushed. For a special occasion, Altius cannot be matched in our city and comes with my highest recommendation!
We had a wonderful experience! The food was fantastic and the wait staff were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!
Amazing food and beautiful scenery. Our waitress Maria was phenomenal and very attentive. We will definitely be visiting again!
Jason, our server and the rest of the staff were wonderful. It is always an exceptional experience when we dine here for special occasions.
What a beautiful restaurant. It is intimate and sophisticated. The selection of breads are fantastic. The main course was absolutely delicious. And the desserts were divine. The portions are very satisfying. All of the staff are refined and classy, yet warm and kind, especially our waitress. She really took care of us in the most elegant way. The view was incredible. And I love the chairs. I look forward to another dining experience here.
Beautiful view, fantastic service. A step above the rest up on the hill !
Everything was exceptional!!! Valet, to hostess to waiters, all top notch service!! Our guest from out of town loved this restaurant!!!
Everything about the entire experience was world class: Food, service, ambiance. Maria, our server, was phenomenal; personable, knowledgeable and great service. We come to Altius every time we come to Pittsburgh. We highly recommend it!
Absolutely superb food and wine selection
Should be considered to be a Michelin starred restaurant
The woman at the bar was far from friendly, far from accommodating, acted as if she had more important things to do (short platinum blond hair). Borderline RUDE! After eating here before we knew the dress was SUPPOSED to be more upscale and recieved a phone message confirming our reservatoion and reminding us "business casual or better" was proper attire. Yet, we saw MANY individuals in jeans and athletic shoes. When the popcorn came out I had asked for truffle popcorn so our friends could try it. Nope!!!! Not happening. The food was good and our server was great. Everyone (party of 6) was disappointed in the dessert menu. We all ordered something different and no one liked their option. We will think twice before dining here again or reccommending to friends.
Family from out of town. Wanted them to have something special. In their words everything was outstanding.
This is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh! Great view of the city. Great food and service. Whether you live in the city or our visiting this is a MUST for a business dinner or special occasion.
Wonderful experience at Altius. Servers were very attentive and food/drink selections were served quickly. Entree items are chef-prepared with a menu that changes every 90 days. View and ambiance were amazing as usual.
Great atmosphere and views. Great wait staff. Food was so so, pretty bland for such a fancy place
Great views and atmosphere, the portions are generous for a restaurant of this grade
Fabulous meal and great service. Pricey but worth it for a special occasion. The view is breathtaking.
Excellent settings for anniversary night out! The added fireworks on the river were gorgeous! Excellent service as always. We enjoyed celebrating! Thank you!
Lovely atmosphere and wonderful food!
The atmosphere was excellent but the food was mediocre at best. Many better choices in the city, especially for the money.
Fantastic, the service was superb and the food was great. The view... was perfect.
Our first impressions started off great. The valet service was friendly and on point. We quickly walked inside where we were pleasantly greeted and quickly sat. We had an early seating, so we were pleased with our table. Our server was very good throughout our dining experience, but she did forget to provide us with new silverware as appropriate with each course. Now the important part - the food. We ordered the crab toast to start which was fantastic. The chef sent out a tasting of some sort of goat cheese stuffed pastry that was a little bit too rich for our palates. We both ordered salads that were good and had just the right amount of dressing on them. She ordered a Caesar and I had a tomato salad. Our entrees is where the experience definitely flattened. She ordered a steak medium rare that came out medium well. I had shrimp and scallops and they were good, but I didn’t find them to be all that great. Then we ordered our dessert to share which was Russian Honey Cake. The pastry chef overcooked it - the bottom layer was difficult to get our forks through. I will note on the positive side that the wine selection was nice. My date enjoyed hers thoroughly. To sum it up, I’ve heard a lot of fanfare about the restaurant since I moved back to Pittsburgh a year and a half ago. While we enjoyed our experience and thought it was fine, we did not find anything about it to be spectacular. We were not there for a special occasion or a view. We were there for the food and it definitely did not knock our socks off. I think this restaurant does what the rest of the restaurants do with a view on Mt Washington. It distracts its patrons with a spectacular view while serving them food that just doesn’t match up. If I could sum our visit up in one word, it would be unremarkable.
Took friends from out of town. Great food, great service and of course amazing view!!
The salmon was next level. Great wines, exceptional service and gluten free accommodation. Will be back. Definitely a good date night or special occasion/romantic dinner type spot. Beautiful panoramic views of the city.
We went for my husband's birthday dinner. The view of the city is amazing and we were pleased with the ambience. We started with charcuterie which was very nice, my husband had the special - bone in ribeye which was of course recommended to be ordered at medium rare which is how he asked for it. The ribeye came out at least medium well, very overdone. It was sent back and the second ribeye came back cooked better but still not medium rare. I ordered the lamp shank which again was ordered medium rare. I very much enjoyed the dish although it was a bit undercooked. They did provide a birthday dessert for my husband and the ribeye was taken off the tab. We would like to give the restaurant another chance but likely not for awhile.
This was a special occasion for our anniversary but we have been there other times. The food is just fabulous. I had the halibut which is one of my favorite fishes and it was wonderful. The preparation and presentation was great,
My husband had the tuna which he loved,
Beautiful restaurant and personnel are ver friendly and accommodating.
Was looking for a place with a city view for a special occasion birthday. Altius was recommended by my son who had eaten there. We went on a Wed night, the table was awesome, the service was perfect and the food first rate.
Very good, creative food, great service, spectacular view.
Great dining experience! Beautiful view! Would highly recommend. Menu selection is unique & savory.
From the moment we walked in the experience was phenomenal. I am sure everything on the menu was just as delicious as my meal. The drinks were excellent as well. Top shelf all around.
Overall, very good. However, Altius has a dress code that was not enforced the evening we were there. There was a table adjacent to us with folks dressed in ripped jeans, tennis shoes tee shirts, and a hoodie...certainly not what we expected for a fine dining restaurant. Either change the dress code, enforce it, or seat those folks in the bar! Otherwise, excellent.
Altius is one of the very best restaurants in Pittsburgh. Too many eateries with great views serve mediocre food - not Altius. Everything was truly excellent. It has become our go to special occasion choice. There are many special touches including the amuse bouche, the spreads for the several different kinds of homemade breads, the excellent sweets, etc. The wine list is excellent and extensive with some reasonably priced bottles of very good wine. If you are looking for fine dining with the best view in Pittsburgh - Altius is the place!
We love Altius -- it is a splurge but one well worth it for us. Finally a restaurant on Mt. Washington worthy of the view -- the decor inside is modern yet warm and even non-window tables have great views. The menu is always full of really thoughtful, interesting, and delicious options and every employee is focused on your experience without being over the top. We had the crab toast and charcuterie to start, then i had lamb and my husband had a ribeye special, and we both had dessert (only because I wasn't willing to share!). All was so incredibly good, well thought out ingredients and accompaniments. It is not inexpensive, but I've spend more at dinners that were not anywhere nearly as good in terms of food, ambiance, and experience (I'm looking at you steakhouses and seafood emporiums). You won't regret a special meal here.
Table was ready on our arrival. Waiter was knowledgeable and helpful. Service was very good and the food delicious.
Good food, great ambiance, great staff. Its the perfect place for a nice date.
We have been here before
Always great food, great service.
The pork chop entree was exceptional
Altius is a fine restaurant with a fantastic view of the city.
Also a great way to watch the fireworks from the Pirate game!
