Second time here, and always a MUST when we are in town! Service, wine, food, ambiance, and view were all amazing! Top notch all the way around! Can’t wait until our next trip to Pittsburgh to return here. Well done Altius!!
had the porkchop which was very tasty. I believe the plat is different than it used to be. A bit messy with the red sauce it had this time. But the pork was delicious as always. I prefer the original plating. Service was outstanding and all wait personnel wore masks.
Though the food and the view were amazing, the near harassment over being finished in 90 minutes was appalling. I was sternly “instructed” over the phone to the new rules of “being invited” to Altius the day before reservation. I get it.. these are new times but the level of attitude was unnecessary. We were celebrating a special birthday and spent nearly 400 dollars for 3 people. Probably would have spent more but there was no time for dessert! Ironically, we were repeatedly told of being finished in 90 minutes, though are drink orders weren’t taken until being seated for over 15 minutes. We were also told the woes of the restaurant due to COVID 19 and the need to move people in and out! These are trying times for all businesses (myself included) but my friends and I were just trying to relax and celebrate an evening out. All we felt was the anxiety of tic toc tic toc and the pressure to finish our food. It was the first time in 6 months that we actually ate inside a restaurant and was truly in enjoyable. Had we been at a lower end chain restaurant I would accept and understand the prodding of “getting us out” to make more money with the next seating but I expected a higher level of sophistication from Altius! So that being said, it will be a long time before I revisit your establishment...
Lastly, I would like to compliment the chef. The food was exquisite! It was a shame we had barely enough time to ingest it!
Pre-Covid this restaurant was fantastic. They opened up three weeks ago, and it’s just not the same. The wait staff was less than great. The foods quality was worse than something you could order at Texas Roadhouse. I ordered a ribeye steak, they served me a strip. The quality of the meat was poor. It contained a lot of sinew. The sides were “frites” and vegetables. The “frites” were ore-ida bagged fries, and the vegetables looked and tasted like they came out of a microwaved bag as well. I took my girlfriend out and she had a similar meal. For $300 for the food alone I have higher expectations. I also don’t like being treated like I’m stupid to be so pretentious to call Ore-ida bagged fries “frites” and serve them with a side of mayo offends me. They were also having electrical issues so there was no lighting in the dining room. Terrible experience I feel like someone conned me out of $225.00 because the meal was worth at best $75.00 in total. Do not recommend!! Great view tho.
The food was amazing. The service was excellent. Ambiance is spectacular.
Very good dinner though my fish could have been hotter. Served warm by my wife’s meal was hot.
The food is beyond comapre. You will only find better going to a renound chef's place and paying for the experience. When it comes everyday fine dining, nothing competes. We had the crab toast and she crab bisque for starters, and the salmon with bacon risoto and ribeye for mains. My only complaint, literally my only one and its a stretch to call it so, is that the bacon risotto, to me, seemed to have an almost nacon extract flavor. It literally almost seemed to be imitation. I wasn't a fan at all. But the crab toast and soup, and especially combined together, was a lofe changing experience. My wife had the salmon cooked at medium because she's pregnant and couldn't do the chefs suggested medium rare and my ribeye was an absolutely perfect medium rare. The seasoning was amazing and the tenderness was out of this world. I've had 45 day dry aged black angus that wasn't as tender. Unfortunately we didn't have dessert as we were way to full but the menu looked great. It was our wedding anniversary as well as celebrating finding out we are pregnant and we casually told our server this. For a dessert we received a complimentary congratulatory chocolate plank with a cream pairing and blackberries. It was amazing. But to keep from going on, the ambience was amazing, the music was soft, the view of the pgh skyline was without equal, the service was attentive, drinks were smooth, and the food is something I will dream about for weeks. You can do infinitely worse when looking for a classy dinner spot. It was our second time there and I plan on going back as much as I'm able. We both love this place and it's our favorite fine dining experience in the pgh area without question.
We loved this place. It’s perfect for special occasions. The food and drinks are on point. The view is amazing. You get a luxury experience.
My fiance and I went to Altius durinf the COVID pandemic and found it to be not only a wonderful place to eat and relax but extremely clean and sanitary. We felt very safe. Great views and they made our night special.
Me and my friends enjoyed ourselves. Our waiter provided great customer service. Although he was the only one to provide us outstanding service. When we first arrived to the restaurant I came in and had to ask about the valet parking. The woman at the front door rudely told us that we had to wait outside for him. We waited roughly five minutes in the cold for him to park our car. When we sat down the waiter told us that at 11pm they had to shut their doors but if needed he would give us time to get ready to leave. We paid our bill at 10:55 pm. This woman comes to our table at 10:57 while we were grabbing our belongings and pretty much kicked us out and told us we had to leave. Had we got desert we wouldn’t have been able to eat it. We went to get our car, and being that they had to make everyone leave at 11pm, you’d think our car would be waiting for us. We had to wait an extra 15 minutes while he got everyone’s car. They didn’t let us sit inside and wait we were told we had to stand outside. If I ever came back I’d do street parking and walk down. I’d make reservations earlier in the day to avoid feeling like I’m kicked out. A party of up to four has two hours of time to eat. We had a 9:30pm reservation and the only option available other than that was a 4pm which didn’t correlate with me and my guest time. Also I didn’t like that the food was rushed to us. Which I know had nothing to do with the waiter. We came to enjoy ourselves. We didn’t come to just get food. We came for the experience and good food. Please make your guest feel like the every dollar is a dollar worth spent.
Great food, excellent service, and outstanding view.
Everything was absolutely delicious. Food is nicely creative and wonderfully prepared. Service is topnotch too.
Nice place. Food was good, hubby loved the NY Strip, eating even though it was cooked to medium well/well when he ordered it medium. I had the pork chop which was good but over cooked as well. Both came drowning in butter which was a turn off for me. I expected more due to all the hype about this restaurant.
We celebrated our anniversary here. It was wonderful and the service was amazing. We especially enjoyed the gourmet popcorn!
I would’ve given a complete 5 star review if the hosts working the front door would have acknowledged our presence. They never even looked up from what they were doing to welcome us nor did they say goodbye as we were leaving. Other than that, our server, the wait staff and our food was amazing. Thank you for a lovely evening.
This is the best food by a million miles on Mt. Washington. Outstanding food, service and unmatched views.
We greatly enjoyed our dinner
Ambiance, food and service was Great! I keep going back.
We went for our anniversary celebration and our experience was lovely! I have always love dining at Altius, and it was just as great with the COVID safety measures in place. I’d recommend Altius to anyone!
The hostess stressed a time limit. When the reservation was made it was made clear about a time limit. She very emphatically stressed a time limit, to the point it stressed my wife out and she kept checking her watch throughout dinner and said we needed to hurry we were running out of time... Not going back there again not worth the aggravation and stress. So called fine dining, certainly not my idea of fine dining
So happy to be back at Altius! The food was amazing despite their smaller menu and the service was impeccable. Jason was so attentive, friendly & knowledgeable about the menu. All of our dishes were super bright and fresh! We wish we had room for dessert !Looking forward to our next meal at Altius!
One of the best meals, service and views we have had. Will always be a must when we return to Pittsburgh.
My favorite restaurant for special occasions or just to be back to normal.
The room was freezing and very uncomfortable. I addressed this but nothing was done.
We had a great time at Altius on Saturday night. We were celebrating our friend’s birthday. Our server was amazing. She and the chefs completely took care of a vegan request we had. Great service, great food and one heck of a view.
Go make reservations now!!!
Altius was lovely! The food, drinks, service, and view were all excellent. We can't wait to go back!
We celebrated out Annivery at this creative restaurant. Everything was perfect from arrival to finish.
When you go, ask for Gus to be your waiter. He is very knowledgeable about everything from drinksnto dessert, plus an amazing personality.
Definitely will be back.
We made reservations for our 1 year anniversary. They treated us wonderfully. They offered us the best view in the restaurant, the the corner table upstairs. You can see the entire city! We ordered ribeye and veal for dinner and both entrees were phenomenal. They also offer a bunch of goodies to enjoy before and after dinner. They gave us zucchini bread to start with two types of butter spreads and a peach and nut snack. After dinner they brought us a white chocolate bark with Happy Anniversary written on it with a strawberry and chantilly cream. Also, they brought us two blonde brownies! Everything was delicious and worth the experience!
Only flaws were use of way too much salt in osso buco sauce and on fingerling potatoes and wife's salmon too thin and over done. Wanted medium
Altius is open!! We celebrated a wonder anniversary there last week. They treated us so special and presented us with a surprise anniversary dessert!
Food and service were exceptional. Music was loud upon arrival but waiter was kind enough to have it turned done upon request. Little extras like the garlic Parmesan popcorn and sweet bites after dinner were a nice touch. The view of Pittsburgh can’t be beat.
fantastic staff, executive chef, management etc. we appreciated the quality of the food
An excellent experience. We went for our anniversary: the service was wonderful and light hearted. The food was delicious. The drinks were well made and well designed. Our server was absolutely awesome. The restaurant is gorgeous and minimalistic. Would recommend for a special night out.
We really enjoyed eating here; there were a number of samples and other specialties that we enjoyed. A definite repeat trip is in order.
Love to see the place back open, and it was worth the wait! Always an amazing dining experience.
Everything awesome as usual! Have never been disappointed.
Wonderful food! Wonderful service! The food is to DIE for.
It's a shame that the county nixed liquor service, but everything else was up to the Altius standard of great food, great views and great service.
Altius is a jewel. We are loyal fans however our experience last night was less than memorable. However it was not their fault. We were not aware of the removal of alcohol effective 5 pm that night. It was our Anniversary so it certainly took much of the fun out. In addition the menu was limited as so many restaurants now are requiring due to impacted volume. Our server was attentive and professional. Value is questionable. A salmon dish truly should be more than it was at that price. The views and ambience are second to none. We will continue to dine there despite our value concerns.
Altius is rated 4.8 stars by 4040 OpenTable diners.
