Food was good, but just leave the bread options on the table in stead of the girl walking around offering 1 piece at a time. The server made a sideways comment of "really? root beer? if you're sure" when I ordered a root beer. very limited non-alcoholic drink options. Dessert was 2 scoops of ice cream with no brownie as the server said it would have. It was $16 and took almost 15 minuets to come out, I understand upscale upsale, but really?
The food was delicious and the service was delightful. Perfect in every way.
My husband and I recently dined at Altius for his birthday. Impeccable service and delicious food. Pricey, but worth it.
Our first time there! Absolutely loved everything!
Excellent. It was our first time dining there -– incredible views, knowledgable wait staff, well-plated and generous portions. We will be returning.
Reserved a month in advance on occasion of an out of town family visitor. Initially seated at table way in back by stairwell with zero view, very disappointed and expressed my displeasure. Owner graciously rearranged tables and got us moved to a window table for which I was deeply grateful. Everything looked up from there- good wine list, delicious innovative dishes, phenomenal table service; frankly we wouldn’t take visitors anywhere else in town.
Advice: go early or go after 8pm because window side tables are at a premium during peak dinner hours. Worth the expense and definitely RESERVE in advance.
We were seated in the upstairs dining room against the back wall which was fine because the website states that when making reservations you will not be guaranteed a window seat. This was no problem until an elderly party of 3 were seated next to us and proceeded to have a tantrum because they were not happy about their back of the room seating. Management proceeded to usher them to a prime window seat, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. Not only did they reward disruptive behavior, but they failed to apologize to the surrounding people who had their nice evening disrupted.
The crab soup was tasty, but too salty and for this caliber of restaurant surly could have had actual crab in the bowl. My chicken entree was outstanding as was the dessert, however, the dessert should either be listed as shareable or scaled back to a quarter of its size. The service was impeccable. Wine selection also very nice.
Delicious food, amazing view, and attentive service. Who could ask for more? It was definitely worth the expense. The pork chop definitely lived up to the hype!
This is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh. When we visit again we will definitely be going there.
The service we received was absolutely awesome! The food was incredible . Our server Ellen went above and beyond for us. I would highly recommend Altius.
Oysters were small and overpriced. The mero was cold. Presentation was very nice, but food was mediocre. Dessert was very good and the best part of the meal. Service was excellent.
Very accommodating and knowledgeable with the menu and ingredients being used in their food. My girlfriend has a severe dairy allergy and I was able to have them put that on our reservation so the staff and cooks knew how to prepare her dish as well as modify any dish she wanted. Great view and great food too.
Service and view were great, but food was disappointing. Wouldn’t go back. Way over priced. Hopefully they were just having a bad day. A waste of a great view.
The restaurant felt upscale. The view was fantastic. Our waitress was very attentive and polite. I ordered a wild caught sea bass and it tasted fresh and delicious. All dishes were beautifully presented.
You really need to fix the lighting situation. I asked our server about why the lights kept dimming and she mentioned it was the cable car next door. It was really distracting and became an annoyance to a really good meal.
Amazing views. Excellent service. Thoughtfully conceived cocktails. Food was good, not great. Go for the fun experience, not superior food.
We had a wonderful experience at Altius Sunday night. We were in search of a new Mt. Washington favorite after being let down time and again by the decline at Monterey Bay. The staff's attention to detail, unpretentious but top-notch service, creative menu, unique selections, and DELICIOUS food all made us incredibly happy. The view of the city was icing on the cake. We look forward to returning!
We took friends from out of town there on Sunday at 5:00 before a 7:00 play. We had prompt and courteous service and received our entrees quickly. The dishes were all delicious and attractively prepared. We were very impressed and are looking forward to our next meeting there.
Our favorite place to go too celebrate birthdays or buying a house or graduation or anything special has been and will continue to be Altius. The filet mignon is the best I have had anywhere in the country. And on our recent visit the Italian inspired popcorn and peppermint chocolate dessert were truly magical. We'll be back. Again and again.
We really enjoyed everything we ordered. Portions we appropriately sized, not super small. It got noisier after 8, was fairly quiet for the early seating
Excellant service and food. Views were breath taking and selections of wine was top notch.
Excellent food and very friendly staff. Impressive view of Pittsburgh.
Our second dinner at Altius was wonderful, as was the first. Service from Chad was excellent. The Caesar salad and Spanish sea bass were excellent and beautifully presented. The extras of the popcorn and butternut squash soup were also great and came with the dinner. The bread looked wonderful, but we were trying to minimize carbs. We declined to have dessert, but the restaurant provided a lovely, complimentary Happy Birthday dessert. Wonderful view of the city. Upscale, contemporary décor. Rivals our other favorite restaurant, Latitudes, in Key West, Florida.
The atmosphere is amazing. The staff is the friendliest staff of any place I have been to in the city. The appetizers and main course dishes were amazing. Some on the best lamb and filet I've ever tasted. The dessert however was just mediocre. 14k gold churro or something like that. Other than that it was a 5 star experience. Drinks were delicious and fairly priced.
This is my 4th visit to Altius. I was a little disappointed. It was freezing cold . My main course, winter Gnocchi was ok and the chicory salad was too salty. When dessert time came , I was super excited about the s’mores dessert, but It tasted nothing like it did the first time I ordered it. The marshmallow was hard and didn’t melt. I did however really appreciate the mock-tails . The “honey I’m home “ was delicious. The waiter and bread servers where excellent. I did however misplace my coat ticket and one of the ladies seemed very agitated with me. :(
Excellent food and service. Our only issue was we didn't have enough time to stay for dessert. Next visit we'll be sure to save time.
Over all very good. I had the scallops and they were slightly under cooked.
Food was amazing and Bridget, our server, couldn't be more on top of things and knowledgeable! I asked for a filet without the potatoes and more veggies... the presentation was beautiful and cooked to perfection! Thank you for a lovely experience for me and my client!
Fantastic food and service. Can’t wait to go back!
I highly recommend Altius for anyone who truly enjoys a menu that refuses to disappoint. Our party tried different courses and between the service, the incredible view and the 5 star menu, it was unforgettable. I am a native New Orleanian who understands great food and place Altius at the top of the Delmonicos, Emerils and Best of New Orleans restaurants!
We had an incredible dining experience at Altius! The service was outstanding, the food delicious and artfully presented. This is an amazing location to catch the Pittsburgh sunset, as well. I thank the Altius team for a great birthday celebration!
We had a great time! The staff was very helpful and when realized that it was our 10 year anniversary they helped us get a window table. The view was amazing. If you are looking for a very nice, upscale, romantic place to have dinner this definitely fits.
My husbands birthday
It was our first date night this year and this experience was definitely worth the wait. My only complaint was the flickering light right above us.
The food & view are amazing! Fortunately, we have had better service on previous visits. Tonight, however, our waitress was absent. We waited an hour before getting our appetizers & our glasses were empty. Then at the end of our meal, we were rushed out & she brought our check despite expressing an interest in an after dinner cocktail. Not their best effort.
Extremely knowledgeable and professional staff. Food was outstanding. It is a little on the expensive side, but in this case you are definitely getting what you are paying for and the experience is absolutely worth the price.
Don't pass on the opportunity to dine at Altius! Simply the best food, service, and view. We were there to celebrate a birthday, on a weekend getaway to Pittsburgh. Wonderfully romantic location. Our host, bartender, and server Rob were outstanding. Every bite was delicious. The experience was perfect in every way. Will definitely go back, and recommend to friends.
I was treated to dinner at Altius for my birthday.
Very modern, upscale establishment without being pretentious.
Hostess was friendly, warm and welcoming.
It was a perfect setting for dinner and drinks.
The view of the city just made the evening feel that much cooler.
If you’re looking for a great meal and an absolutely exhilarating night out this is the spot.
Loved it. Can’t wait to come back.
Delicious food, wonderful views!!! Compliments of the chef we received gourmet popcorn, an appetizer shooter of a soup and a brownie to go. Beautiful touches!
