Food was AMAZING. A little expensive but worth it. Portions are not huge but we left satisfied. Service was great. We’ll definitely go back!
The food tastes incredible, but you don't get a lot for the price. A great place to go if you had an appetizer beforehand.
STAFF: Welcoming and friendly .
AMBIANCE: Lots of hard surfaces produce the "din" problem. It nearly impossible to hold a conversation over dinner. For our visit, we were serenaded by a saxophonist. An acoustic guitar might have been better. We dined without speaking as any attempt would have been pointless. Place settings included only forks so, if you wanted to cut anything with a knife (like a long strip of chicken) you were left no options -- getting through the chicken with the side of my fork was not possible. I had to spear the long strip and bite off bits working from the end -- an ignominious display for all.
SERVICE: Overexuberrant. We ordered tapas which were served all at once overwhelming what little space the tabletop offered. It might be better to bring tapas one or two at a time. Service plates overlapped small dinner plates, the centerpieces (candle and vase) and all water and wine glasses had to be corralled to a space we designated between two diners. The service plates themselves were a problem, too -- it was impossible to scoop any of the trio guacamole from the very, very shallow serving dish.
FOOD: The food was pretty good -- nothing that made us say "Wow!" but certainly up to par.
OVERALL: If the service had been a little more attentive to what we were doing, instead of apparently trying to shovel plates out of the kitchen as fast as possible, it would have been a much better experience. The decision to have a live saxophonist blaring away for the evening was ill-conceived. Altiro would benefit by following the lead of a few restaurants and installing some sound-dampening baffles, drapes, table cloths, wall hangings, carpets, etc. to tone down the din. The experience was a bad one, but not because of the food.
We literally take any and all guests we get here and it’s always a hit. The service is great and the food and cocktails are even better. I would make some ordering recommendations, but I’ve never been disappointed with anything I’ve ordered, so try it all!
Great food and service!
This place excels on flavors and service.
Definitely gourmet food at accessible prices.
Will keep going back for special occasions, and occasional dinner with friends/family
The food and experience here is very good. There lots of fun cocktail options as well. This is a “tapas” style restaurant which makes it fun for two or for a group. There were 4 in my party and this is the second time dining here. Would highly recommend.
Very dark and quiet in the restaurant - we were one out of two tables seated. Hostess/waitress was back near the kitchen on her phone most of the time. Menus were faded, sticky, and smelled like whatever had been spilled on them. Salsa trio was good, enjoyed the guacamole trio as well, but it was lacking some flavor. Esquites were the highlight of the meal. Pork belly tacos weren’t the best. Chilango tacos were good, but could do without the shoestring potatoes on top - that was an odd addition.
It was OK. The tacos were OK, the tortilla chips were OK, the corn was very bitter, the Guac was OK. Just OK.
We loved the food! However being that it’s a tapas restaurant we werent a huge fan of the fact that when we ordered something they ordered enough for the whole table. Our bill was higher than expected because of that and it was more food than needed.
We came here for a birthday dinner and it was amazing! The style of food is Spanish/Mexican fusion. The food was OUTSTANDING. So well seasoned and packed full of flavour! There was not one thing that we ordered that we regretted! Atmosphere was great, you can either sit inside or outside, but the inside is beautifully designed, very modern. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Altiro’s food is consistently delicious. The mixed drinks are a wee bit strong for me so I stick with wine when I’m there.
I was delighted to discover this place with my friend tonight. The staff was super welcoming, the menu although not overwhelmingly extensive was full of beautifully presented items with fresh often innovative ingredients.
The restaurant has adorable decor and is really sparkling clean. I hope they add a few more light salad and ceviche items. I definitely will come back soon with my husband & more friends. I believe they have music on Friday nights.
A real winner to discover.
Food was sooooo tasty! Thank you.
Small portions for the price but very good food, quality and service. Great drinks!
This is my second visit here and the food is outstanding! Great blend of flavors, piping hot w tasty as ngria. Corn side and ceviche were great compliments to our meal. Love this place
This has become a neighborhood favorite! Love the drink menu!
My family said this was the best meal they ever had.
The paella was moist and delicious with their own special flare.
Love the fried egg on the papas bravas.
Love the food! flavor, flavor, flavor! :)
Outstanding value during La Grange Restaurant Week: $30 for two entrees and two drinks. Salmon tacos with mustard sauce were unique, and the paella was tasty and did not take forever to prepare and serve.
Sort of a strange take on tapas. Menu actually lends itself to ordering what seems like your own personal entree, as the taco dishes come with three to an order. The food was tasty and our waiter did a great job of answering our questions and making accommodations for an expectant mother in our group, but I was not blown away in any way. Cocktails were tasty but at the same price point as a swanky cocktail bar in the city, I just expected to be more impressed.
Food was good, and I would return to give it another try. Service was okay, our server just wasn't very friendly, any questions regarding the menu, she just seemed like it was an inconvenience to answer. Its a tapas and small plates place. Biggest complaint however, we did share appetizers and sides and we expressly mentioned we were ordering our own entrees (there was 4 of us) and our entrees came out at all different times (1st one, then 2 more and mine almost after everyone was done). at $50 a head I expect better service. I think if I return I'll get a some of the tacos and a beer or wine and see if its a better experience for the price.
Great drinks and good food!
Not a great experience at Altiro. While the staff was friendly, service was pretty slow. The portions are very small but relatively expensive and the food didn't sit well with us. Overall, would not return.
Food and drinks are amazing. Waiter rushed a little and took plates or drinks off table without asking if we were done. He also poured a beer when my husband asked for draft.
It was our first time for dinner there. We had such a great date. Service was amazing Liliana was our server and she was great. Food was fantastic and drink awesome. Dessert we had Flan de elote it was delicious.
Just about everything we tried was very spicy. The server helped but even the things he said weren't spicy were too hot for me. The bigger problem was the noise level. When we got there, it was fine but once it got crowded, the cranked up the music and it was unbearable. When we walked in the door, we were very hopeful because it's a cute place and all the employees were friendly. But once it got crowded, the service deteriorated. Started out as a good experience but ended up a big disappointment.
Food was decent. Live musician was so loud it was hard to hear anyone speak.
Good place for tapas, live music on the night we were there. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re trying to have a quick meal! Apetizer comes out quick but tacos take awhile but they were good! Hallway where restroom is has no lights because they are burnt out??? so it’s pitch black and you have to search for the door!
Overall a great place, but food quality used to be excellent, this last time was a notch down. I'd still recommend it and hope next time I dine there it rebounds.
New Years Eve. Great experience!!! The food was fresh and delicious. The cocktails were also amazing- a little on the higher end in terms of price but were great!
Food was great. Service was slower than expected with the restaurant not as busy.
A great addition to the LaGrange dining scene. Recommended highly and we will be back.
The cocktails were creative and tasty. All the food dishes were wonderful. We especially loved the ceviche and the most incredible paella. We also had the best tiramisu dessert ever, which is an off-menu special - in our case a birthday.
A very classy yet comfortably decorated establishment. The staff was top notch with very attentive service. The food was delicious. Every dish was as wonderful as the one before it since it was tapas. It is actually now my new favorite restaurant.
We loved the craft cocktails at Altiro. They were excellent. We ordered three different tacos and shared them among us. Also, we had the Mexican corn. Our guacamole appetizer was tasty but very small. Finally, the fried sweet plantain was outstanding. Next time we will try the Tapas.
They seem to have worked out the kinks. The first week of opening was a nightmare (summer '18). They didn't have enough servers and one woman seemed to be working the whole dinning room. Much better now! Really enjoy it! Great food and ambience!
Good food, but the restaurant was understaffed and it showed.
our waitress was nice, but gave me the wrong cocktail twice and just called it the name i originally ordered. i drank because it was good, but not what i ordered. our waitress also failed to put in our order and realized 20 minutes later so we waited about 30-40 minutes for our food. the food was great. then when we went to pay our bill, she brought the bill, i placed my card. waited another 10 minutes for her to bring another print out of our bill. no apologies or acknowledgement of what had taken place the entire meal, then proceeded to pretty much rush us out the restaurant. maybe next time it’ll be better.
