About Altesi Downtown
After 22 years, Paolo Alavian has closed his iconic Soho restaurant "Savore" and replaced it with Altesi Downtown. Altesi Downtown is outpost of Altesi Madison, his Upper East Side townhouse restaurant. Locally sourced seasonal ingredients will be used in traditional Italian dishes, which will be served alongside small plates including Salumi and cheese platter served on cutting boards, panini and pizza from the wood-fired oven. Like its sister concept, Altesi Downtown offers Aperitivo (cocktails served with Hors D'Oeuvres) and A2Go - a lunchbox-style selection of panini, water/soda and small cookies.

Altesi Downtown Ratings and Reviews
We are big fans of the location on the upper east side, which is why we visited the SoHo location. Everything felt a bit off, though. The dining room was not as warm. The service was not as smooth as the other locations; servers did not communicate very well, their frequency of visiting the table was inconsistent, and there was a lack of an overall welcoming feeling. And the food was not as good as uptown. Steak was great, pasta was great. The basics are there. But something has been lost in the translation from uptown to downtown.
We loved Altesi. I travel a lot for business in Italy and I must say the food at Altesi is same as good as the best restaurants in Italy. We had a party of six and everyone loved their dishes. I had cured salmon with the cucumber and apple to start and it was fantastic followed by an excellent, perfectly cooked papardelle pasta with chanterelle mushroom. So if you don't want to travel as far as Italy for the great, authentic food go to Altesi and you will love it.
Good all-around restaurant for informal business lunch or dinner. The interiors are simple and lighting is decent; table spacing also good for business conversation. We had a pasta dish, which was well prepared and delicious. The only distraction came from the sound of moving the heavy chairs — a simple fix would be felt gliders on the chair legs. If this were fixed, the setting + the food and service would be exemplary.
My brother highly recommended this place from his visit a couple of years ago. It did not disappoint. Almost feel like I was in Italy. Food and wine options were great. The lasagne was truly the best I've ever had, ever. It's neither a small nor large portion, but with the fresh bread they served it was just enough. With go back twice next time I'm in NYC
We love Altesi Downtown and it is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurant. We have been coming here frequently since they opened and I must say it is always a wonderful experience. The food is fantastic, always fresh and authentic. The service is friendly and professional and they always try to accommodate your needs. If the weather is nice we love to sit outside. We highly recommend Altesi to everyone looking for fine dinning experience.
We absolutely love Altesi Downtown. The food was outstanding. For the appetizer we had salmon and octopus followed by authentic and perfectly done pastas. The decor is beautiful and the service warm and friendly. We will be back very soon!
Nothing was particularly bad or wrong, but nothing particularly wowed me and so to me this restaurant is average. We chose this restaurant cause menu sounded good and it's in a great neighborhood. It's the type of restaurant that I'd go to if I lived in the area but not that I'd go out of my way for.
we have been here before and it is always good. Appetizers, pastas, main meal and desserts are all delicious. even though the name has changed it is still the same consistently good quality food! Can't wait to go back again!!!
After attending the theater three friends and I had a reservation at Altesi in Soho. We were greeted warmly at the entry and were delighted with the sleek, cool vibe inside. It was Restaurant Week and three of us ordered from the prix fix dinner menu. We also ordered one octopus appetizer for the table. I was impressed by the crusty, airy bread, served in brown paper bags. It was wonderful. The cannelloni spread which was served with the bread was fresh but underwhelming. Rosemary and more salt would have been great additions. My beef carpaccio, served with a bit of avocado purée was divine! The girls enjoyed their mussels. My porcini risotto was creamy and rich, albeit a rather small portion. The negroni was refreshing. I was disappointed by the cheesecake...not really very Italian. I expected a denser ricotta cheesecake. It was more like an American, light cheesecake. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, but not cloying. All in all a delightful experience.
The restaurant was good. The Pizza was the size of a large app or small dinner and at $21 was a little expensive....The crust could have been cooked a little more - was a soft chewy dough.
The special scallop dish was very good - 3 scallops- was more of an app than a dinner.
The buratta was very tasty with watermelon---could have been more accompaniment.
The tiramisu- delicious. Smallish.
The food and drinks were marvelous. Everyone enjoyed the well cooked and presented entrees and appetizer we ordered. The service is leisurely and we were in no hurry. If you're in a hurry I suggest you eat elsewhere. If you want a nice dinner of real Italian food served nicely at a leisurely pace, it's great. We will return.
My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch our first day in Soho and it was wonderful! Great food, beautiful table outside, and extremely friendly service. We loved it so much we planned a large family dinner there a few nights later. Everyone loved it too! They took such amazing care of us. We went back once more before we left Soho and headed to Midtown.
Delicious every time! We were fans of Savore and thrilled that the food and friendly service remains at the highest quality in this new incarnation. The fried artichoke appetizer is a special treat, plus the linguini with seafood. All the pastas we had were wonderful, as was the roast chicken dish. Someone at the next table had the pizza, which we will try next time.
A neighborhood favorite, Savore, has been elegantly reborn as Altessi Downtown. The spare and sophisticated decor seems to be the main change, with the menu continuing to be unique and authentic Italian pastries and main courses that are uniformly delicious and ample. The wait staff also seem to be same knowledgeable, warm and very professional team from Savore. Prices are reasonable. We went for a family reunion and had a wonderful meal, as we had many times at Savore, and plan to do again soon. Bravo!
Altesi Downtown is a very nice surprise. Having been a loyal Savore patron - we are very happy with the redesign -it is open and airy. The food and service were exceptional. The lentil soup, Bronzino and pasta were fabulous. They were only open 1 week since the renovation so we look forward to returning and having more specials to chose from.
Chose Savor due our original choice being closed this day. Was with my wife and stepson. The service from Ronald was professional and courteous. We chose two appetizers and the delicious french onion soup. The food was served in more than ample portions and very flavorful. Come hungry! Had a very nice experience. Looking forward to trying Savor again.
Friendly clean fantastic Service food always fresh and delicious.
Nothing is to much trouble for them, they are so accommodating.
Beautiful clean crisp tablecloths and napkins. Best bread and whipped garlic butter.
Staff are so friendly and always remember you.
Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We dine there at least 3 times when we visit NYC.
