We opened on Valentine’s Day in 1953 in downtown Clinton, NY, and we’ve been sharing our love of good food and drink as a community gathering place ever since. John and Laura Alteri opened the doors and managed the restaurant until John’s death in 1960. We rebuilt after a fire in 1963, and the tradition was carried on by John’s son and daughter-in-law, Fernando “Feet” and Beverly, until 1998. Today, third-generation owner Fran Alteri manages his family’s warm, home-styled restaurant and seasoned bar, bringing people together with classic food, beer, wine and spirits. Share a table with your friends or family for casual dining and try our famous pizza, pasta, sandwiches, soup and more, or just find a stool at the bar and we can chat over one of our many craft beers.

The food was great as always. Sherry was our waitress and was great. Joanne was the bartender and very attentive. We will definitely go back in the near future.

Food was served hot and fresh, Absolutely delicious. Two 7 year old girls ate all of their small cheese pizza and wanted more. Server was spot on.

Friday is a busy night, which is why we used Open Table for a reservation. They could not honor the Open Table reservation. Seated after a 45 min wait, only slightly shorter than walk-in. Waitresses doing EVERYTHING - hosting, busing tables, aswering the phone for take-out in addition to serving food and drinks! And there were three of them for the entire dining room. All under the watchful eye of the owner, or manger, chatting with the locals at the bar. Servers were so harried and the kitchen so slow that the entire dining expereince took over 2 hours. Tipped my normal 20% to our waitress as they were doing the best they could, but will not be back despite the food being decent. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area to get decent Italian food.

All dinners at the table severed steaming hot at the same time. Best fish fry and hot crispy fries. Great servers, and culinary staff

always a pleasure eating there. We visit two or three times a year visiting our son at Hamilton college and find it consistent, enjoyable, and wonderful experience.

Alteris is a friendly, local restaurant. We were in town for a wedding and visited two nights in a row because the pizza was that good. Both nights we sat outside. Our servers were excellent both nights. The second night we brought friends and our server impressively kept up with all 9 of us.

Alteri’s is like a family. Our waitress, Mallory, had our drinks ordered before we even sat down! Antipasto, pizza (any variation) and everything wings are our favorite meal!

This food was not all homemade. And it was not at all cheap! The pasta looked like it came from a food service company, even the ravioli. The salads consisted of precut bagged romaine and croutons from a box. My vegetables were merely bad frozen mixed - the kind u avoid buying at the grocery store bec they are just inedible. My daughter ordered meatballs with her ziti and got one measly greasy meatball. The red sauce appeared to have been the most basic Ragu they sell at convenience stores. The service was unprofessional and rushed. I thought the server filling our glasses would shatter the glass top table when she slammed our filled glasses down. The staff seemed to huddle around the kitchen trying to hold service together but also clearly gossiping and cavorting. Suffice it to say, we won’t be retuning.

Very nice, clean. Service was good. A little wait time for our dinners but we weren't in any hurry. It was a Friday night so the kitchen probably had many take out orders. We would go back.

The staff and service were lovely. Really liked to ambience- very cozy with a fireplace. Really did not care for the food at all. The pasta was tasteless and the chicken parm was over cooked and had hardly any cheese. The sauce really did not taste good. I was disappointed by the food. Locals had told me it’s hit or miss, so I guess that night was a miss. The pizzas looked good, so I’d go back to try that since I liked the ambiance.

We were delighted to be seated AHEAD of the time of our reservation. Food came out from the kitchen in a timely manner and was hot, delicious and exactly what we ordered. That said, the best part of our Alteri's experience is always the people: our server Cassidy (who has the biggest and best smile ever), the bartender, Joanne (who always knows what we want before we even sit down), the friends we enjoy while there but most of all the burns and Alteri families.

I would recommend Alteri’s Restaurant to anyone. All the food choices are delicious and it’s got the ambience of a neighborhood bar. Whether it’s pasta, fish fry, a salad or a sandwich you can’t miss. Hey, the cold beer on tap ain’t bad either.

Excellent, had the club sandwich and it was giant and delicious!! Service was fast and friendly. My Fad had the fish fry and said it was delicious also!! Definitely glad we used Open Table - it was crowded and we were seated immediately!!
