There were 6 members of our party. Four members received their food. One entree of those 4 had under cooked risotto. When the other two entrees arrived, the three with good entrees were almost done eating, no one had checked back to find out the risotto dish was under cooked and the two entrees that were late were cold. A manager came to the table and offered to cook the cold entree. The entree was returned with empty shells, over cooked clams and pasta. He did not offer to make a new entree. I understand Florida is having a problem with staffing, but the total disregard was staggering.
Michele the manager was so sweet and helpful. I had company from out of town who went out for dinner and we with the help of Michele we were able to pay for our friends meal and surprise them. We are local and will be back
Appetizers were excellent ! Dinner not so much. Waited about an hour for dinner which is not a problem. I don't like sitting down and being rushed out. The problem was all of our main dishes were cold. Not cool, cold. They offered to re-cook but we did not want to wait another hour. Service was not up to the cost of meals. Hopefully they can fix the issues.
The food was good. Wine choices were a little limited. Overall a good experience.
Was looking forward to dinner as I had read other reviews online. We were visiting from South Carolina and I had high expectations. Just not the feel we were looking for and the restaurant was too noisy. Service was knowledgable but sometimes distant.
Very disappointing. Between open table and yelp we thought this was an Italian place with a seafood focus. It’s not. It is strictly seafood with barely a side of mediocre pasta. I ordered the “carbonara” you know, the super traditional Italian dish, and it was absolutely nothing like it. We took two bites and left.
The food and service were very good but it was so loud in the dining room that we would not enjoy a conversation. They should look into noise reduction methods to help the sound levels
One of the best restaurants in st Augustine ! Our server was phenomenal!
He suggested the best of the menu and was so helpful of the town as well 5 stars
We arrived early( restaurant was near empty. We were told to wait by the bar (5year old in tow) for our table. Hostess came back and seated us immediately. Lots is confusion about availability of oysters for starters.
The server was great and tried to politely convey kitchen issues.
Food was bland, shellfish was Sandy, and overall a do not come back on my list.
Our first time to Alta Marea and it was an awesome first trip. We were in St. A's for my wife's birthday and one thing I had planned got rained out so we showed up early to see if there was a chance that they could seat us because I had reservations at 8:30. We were seated almost immediately, which I was very thankful for. Service was very good, Brian was our waiter, my guess he was the manager of the evening as he was not dressed in wait staff attire. Kudos to you my friend for being as attentive as you were with everything you had going on, I worked in the service industry so I understand.
Together we had the grilled Caesar salad which was a half of a head of Romaine and very well cooked! I had the Pistachio crusted lamb chops which was probably one of the best meals I have had in a very long time, lamb cooked perfectly and the accompaniments broccoli rabe, gnocchi and the red wine glaze were on point. My wife had the seafood risotto which all around was very, very well as none of the seafood was over or undercooked. We will definitely be back to try something different, thank you for making the evening special.
Special night and we were taken care of - great staff, wonderful food, excellent wine! Love the location too. Second time there, won't dissappoint!
Each food presentation is beautiful and tasty
Tried to order ox tail on the menu then they said it was no longer offered? Why is it on the menu? Had to order something more than expensive they recommended, the bore special...meat was tough! Food was jus okay. Not bad but not good. $300 later for a table of 4 and we had one drink each and a couple appetizers. Disappointed! Noisy, slow service, and food was just okay
We had a very nice dinner at Alta Marea. Food was very good, service was very good. I thought it was a little overpriced but have to say the octopus was prepared very well.
Our server was so professional and wonderful. Our meal was absolutely wonderful. It was truly a night to remember! We had the Califlower steak, warm Burata tomato salad, bread service, octopus small plate , lobster ravioli and porcini lasagna. Amazing!!
New chef very disappointing experience. My wife and I have supported this new restaurant since they opened. Our first course the octopus which we’ve had several times in the past was chewy and the homemade burrata was a ball of mozzarella no creamy center.
The main course I had vongole which was not anything close to what it was the last 6 x I had it. They changed the recipe and didn’t tell me. The owner came out and I thought he was going to apologize for the experience given our history and support and to my surprise he said the recipe was different because I asked for my linguine and clams to be spicy . I said I’ve ordered it spicy every time and it didn’t change the recipe. Lastly the mushrooms in my wife’s mushroom lasagna were not washed and she only had a few bites and couldn’t finish it because of the sand on the mushrooms. Our server TED who we’ve had help us every time acted as if we did something wrong and no one offered us a complimentary cookie 🍪.
Each pasta dish runs $35.00 it’s not inexpensive. I wouldn’t go Back until they get a solid chef and there’s some self awareness on their new issues with the above.
Beautiful restaurant. Our server, Derek, was very attentive and overall we were completely satisfied with him. I think this restaurant is suffering like so many others here in that the service was incredibly slow. There were 5 of us, and it took us all of three hours from start to finish. The appetizers were good, although they are quite large, so beware that you may be full. My husband had the frito misto and it was HUGE! We recommend you not order your dinner until you receive any appetizers. WE asked to speak to the wine expert to help us select the proper wine, and he never came by. My husband and I had the paccheri coda giola. Unfortunately, the fish was severely overcooked. We mentioned to the server, and he noted it, but nothing more. It was disappointing in that we waited so long to get it and it was so dry and chewy. We are mindful; however, that so many in the hospitality industry here and everywhere are struggling with getting employees at this time, so we just enjoyed ourselves overall.
This is quite an expensive restaurant, so be prepared to drop some coin!
Reserved the table to celebrate my birthday, only the hostess mentioned it, drinks took forever to get, lamb was delicious but over cooked, the waiter was good but didn't like to wear a mask. I'll be back.
The food was meh at best. The ambience was great and the service was very good. The food was nothing special and definitely tiny worth the price.
Wonderful! The only problem was that their menu online says that they offer gluten-free pasta, but they did not. Since I do not eat meat or fish, they did customize a risotto dish for me.
Enjoyed the meal. Sat at the bar. Bartender/server was just okay, but the food was very good. Pretty good wine list and nice space.
Their pasta dishes are the best in town and actually anywhere
Beet salad delicious as well as desserts
Amazing wine list. Loved the misto fritto but not the sweet sour sauce. Grilled Caesar salad was good but porcini mushroom lasagna was amazing. Very nice atmosphere & dining experience.
Food was phenomenal! We enjoyed every bite. The service was awful. First the waiter spilled wine all over my glass and just said sorry, he didn’t even bring a napkin to clean up his mess. Then he was missing in action for most of our dining experience. This was the first time we felt like even leaving a 10% tip would be too much.
The drinks were good and the buratta was good as well. That was the end of of the good. The waiter was pretty absent from our table and never offered us a second drink. The main courses lobster ravioli and linguine vongole were both pretty bland and the pasta was dry and tough. I feel like they are trying to cool beyond there means and need to simplify the menu.
Best seafood hand down in St. Augustine. Exquisite.
very nice atmosphere!
food was very good, not amazing.
creative chef, with decontructed ravioli and white lasagna...
Excellent food and unmatched service
It is not a 4.9 as ranked in google maps. However, the dishes are fun (different from your average meal) and the food is good, between 4.6 and 4.7
Attractive new facility in an attractive area of town, hopefully business will expand over time.
We had a fantastic anniversary dinner at Alta Marra. Our favorite part was the antipasto with bread service for our appetizer. It was phenomenal. Highly recommend. We will definitely be back!!
The appetizers, beverages, and main course were all outstanding. We met friends here for dinner and it was the first time for all of us, and at the end of the night we all said it was a definite return to place. The pasta and seafood was excellent. They had no issues accommodating my wife’s food allergy as everything is made from scratch so they know the ingredients and can make recommendations on changes that are possible. Our waiter Ted was friendly and great. He made excellent cocktail, wine and food recommendations. The entire staff was attentive, friendly and helpful. So if you are looking great food, nice atmosphere and an overall great dining experience Alta Marea is the place in St Augustine.
From top to bottom service to food to ambiance... stellar.
Service and staff was above board. The food was amazing and creative. Very nice places for an upscale dining experience.
Pasta outstanding. Salad delicious. Like the simple and clean decor. Waiter great
The decor is very European chic and the food outrageously good. We had the octopus salad, tuna tartar, wild boar with pasta, and at our server’s recommendation, the mushroom-fontina lasagna. He even managed to come up with three scoops of pistachio gelato at our request. We highly recommend this restaurant!
The line had zero idea how to prepare seafood. Yet, this is a coastal Italian chef’s place that specializes in seafood. Two of us ate dinner, we both started with the 3 oysters dressed for $16. The fried version was so over cooked that it was rubber. They served them with regular table salt underneath and it got into each oyster. I reported this to the manager. I had a dish with so called grilled octopus. They are sourcing precooked octopus and then they burned it black. My companion had the scallops...again they so over cooked them they became rubber! They didn’t have the highest priced white wine on the menu. It seemed likes the wine program is just for show. We didn’t finish our meal or wine. Horrible experience!
Yet we had two other wonderful meals this weekend as we come here often from Tampa. Dinner at Old City House Friday evening was perfect as was as always Ice Plant Bar Saturday lunch.
The food was good, excellent wine list. The noise level too high. The bartender was THE BEST!!!
Just not pleased with food at all! Service was ok!
The food was the best we have ever had. Fantastic!
