Great patio, super relaxed and comfortable. Really good food and cocktails. Super friendly welcoming staff.
Second visit; will be back!
Good food bit very loud. Had to shoot to hear each other at same table.
My friend and I left completely satisfied. Every dish was excellent (he ordered the oxtail soup; I got the fried chicken); the vibe relaxed and comfortable; and the service was top notch. I cannot wait to return!
Always reliable, Alta is our go to neighborhood spot to take out of town guests for fantastic food and always creative cocktails. The staff is attentive and friendly.
Too expensive for the amount and quality of food. We had a large party. Here is some of the feedback: the cornbread was too grainy; honey butter was delicious; black eyed peas fritters and sauce was great; shrimp and grits had a horrible red sauce floating on top; white cake with coconut icing was poorly mixed and cooked; we sat outside and asked for the heaters to be turned on but there was no oil in the machine; party was offered blankets to wrap around their backs; the presentation of the collard greens was different/unique but was drowning in too much vinegar.
Not sure if they serve on heated plates but the food could be hotter. Waitress forgot our coffee.
So great. Food was beyond good. Great atmosphere and service is great.
Girls happy hour! Thanks for the good time!
Great food, amazing drinks and atmosphere, highly recommend!
I really love coming here. ALTA has a rare, even-keeled, high level of service, food, and environment.
Review based on two visits - first sitting inside at the back bar (chef’s table) sharing a variety of dishes with two other people, second sitting at the back patio enjoying a tidier meal with one other person.
First - this will continue to be a place I meet folks for business drinks/nibbles/dinner. The service in both experiences was perfect. Attended to but not invaded, and never left wanting. The food is quite good. Very much enjoyed tasting thru the starters (several of which you can build conversations around), the sides have all been stellar examples of their types (the collard greens in particular) and the mains simply delicious.
Note you’ll have a tough time NOT ordering the fried chicken. Give in to that impulse. I don’t think it would take home top trophy in what’s becoming an increasingly crowded house of good offerings, but it’s definitely exceptional and it’s absolutely yummy.
Do anticipate rotating through the cocktails. And a shout-out to the younger bartender with glasses who built an unfamiliar (to him) concoction at my request and absolutely NAILED it.
The owners/designers took measures to keep noise levels down inside but they can still be quite high. I’m sensitive to this, but it’s easy enough to request a seat at the back bar (much quieter while still lively) or outside (peaceful).
I watch kitchens and staff wherever I eat. Rare to see such cooperation and congeniality - which translates directly to the food and service. These folks are doing something right.
I look forward to returning.
Don’t forget to catch their cafe next door during the day - GREAT food/coffee/vibe.
Great experience end-to-end. Beautiful people, sharing amazing food.
Waiter was a little timid. Food was very good. Cornbread was aces. Oxtail was quite salty but yum.
I was disappointed that one of Alta’s signature cocktails was unavailable because the resturant didn’t have a key ingredient that was needed to make drink. Nonetheless, the food and service were very good.
My daughter picked this place for Father’s Day.
Our waiter passed us over to another waiter who forgot about us completely. My daughter was so hungry she was eating corn bread crumbs. Took an hour to get a lukewarm fried chicken and a cold Mac and cheese!! Nobody ever checked back or cared. Service was terrible. We got a lukewarm $19 BBQ cauliflower that was basically steamed and covered in BBQ sauce. Had to send it back it was so badly cooked. LA got some amazing fried chicken and killer restaurants. This is not one of them. Quality of the food and service should be looked after. This place on a Saturday was disorganized and food was coming out from kitchen in a snail pace.
Very disappointing experience.
I've been a few times and the ambiance and drinks are great. Enjoyed the The fried chicken, oxtails, watermelon salad and cornbread. The yams and glazed carrots are not something I'd do again. Overall it's gentrified southern food and the prices don't line up for me. Also, the service is mixed; not a fan of the dishes being served randomly and the staff are so friendly you see your dishes getting cold while they chat up guests. Definitely worth a try though. I'm rooting for them.
Went there tonight, and we were told that our Opentable reservation was not on their books. I showed her the confirmation email and everything was fine, but a little concerning that the reservation wasn't showing on their end. Not sure where the communication breakdown. We had requested a table outside but were forced to eat inside due to this because they couldn't find the reservation.
Excellent food a must try
The ambiance, food and service were impeccable. We will definitely return.
Everything was great! The only slightly less than great thing was the BBQ Cauliflower which is a bummer for a vegetarian like me. Otherwise no complaints! Great new place in the neighborhood.
The food and service at Alta Adams was great and I would highly recommend it. I do wish the restaurant was larger and less noisy, but it is what it is. Although valet parking was available, it was not hard to find street parking on a Friday evening The servings were generous for the price, and I would consider it a value for the cost.
On expensive side. I like the fried chicken and collard greens better at HOME TOWN BUFFET
Great food and great service. Fried chicken is bomb and the little touches, like pickled peppers on the oxtail and peanuts in the carrots, take each dish to the next level. Don’t forget to have a cocktail.
The food was good but not very tasty. The service was a bit slow too.
The oxtails and shrimp and grits were INCREDIBLE. Beautiful light filled space and we had a lovely server.
The management and server could not have been more warm, lovely and professional when dealing with the table next door to us. We ended up moving and they made a very awkward situation less chaotic. Music outside would be great but the patio is lovely.
We love this restaurant because food is excellent but also the service. Happy and friendly waitress.
School s out
The collard greens were a high point BUT the rest of the meal was mediocre at best. The recommended hanger steak with mushroom sauce was chewy and gravy was blah- and the service was thoughtless (cocktails delivered midway through meal, dishes not cleared, waited 1/2 hr. for seating even with 6 empty tables etc.). In desperate need of a mgr.
The food was good, however, the service and organization was lacking.
Great drinks and tasty food with some being overly gentrified like the mac and cheese and so called candied yams. Some servers are on it others you see socializing while your food gets cold. They need to tighten up their service and provide a better experience and more robust meal for the price. The drinks and ambiance are great!
I saw the owner being interviewed on a food show on TV. And this is why we decided to go. The food was described as California soul food. I can honestly say I do not care for California soul food. My family is from Louisiana and this food is definitely not true soul food. It is foo foo food. The restaurant is catering to people who do not know what true soul food taste like and celebrities. The service was just ok. We were sitting near a celebrity of sorts so all the attention was going to them and We rarely saw our waitress. Even the owner came out and spoke to the people at the table next to us but never bothered to speak to anyone else around this particular table. And we were spending our money and he had comped the celebrity table. More than likely, I will not be going back.
Alta has become one of my favorite eateries. I love the location the staff are both professional and personable. The service is excellent Definitely recommend them. Great dining experience.
Loved everything about the place. It’s great to see this addition to the neighborhood. Ordered appetizers deviled eggs, shrimp and grits, plantain chips, bbq chicken wings and took home fried chicken, collard greens, red beans and rice and cornbread. Everything delicious!! I hope to make Alta Adams my go to neighborhood spot!!
Pass on the cocktail list and just order what you know from the full bar.
The menu is short and concise. A win here in that the restaurant focuses on what it does well and doesn’t try to add unnecessary menu items.
We order the Black Eyed Peas fritters to start. These were great. Followed by the arugula watermelon feta salad. Barely there watermelon made this salad bland. We used the dressing from the fritter to dress the salad and this helped immensely.
The fried chicken is a must. No complaints here
Oxtails and rice. Rich and dense.
The side of carrots were good and the collard green was greasy and could have used more salt or seasoning of some kind.
One of the best new restaurants I have been to for a long time. The cocktail menu is so well thought out and varied with some lovely unexpected twists. The barman talked us through the various options eloquently and knowledgably. The food was delicious, particularly the pork chop. The atmosphere is really buzzy and fun while still being very food and drink focused. The open kitchen also really helps activate the main dining space. Get a seat on the terrace/ garden if the weather is good as it’s very pretty.
Great food. Good atmosphere. Best shrimp and grits I've ever had. We will be back!
Love this spot it’s everything it needs to be
We were excited to try this place out as we live in the neighborhood. We had a reservation at 9:30 and arrived and checked in at 9:25. We weren't seated until 10:00, when the host let us know he almost gave away our table (?). One of our party needed to leave by 10:30, so at 10:15 when we had still not seen a waiter we decided to leave.
I understand that these things happen and restaurants get busy, but there were plenty of open tables around us, and it seemed like the remaining tables with patron were getting a similar type of service. We went to Delicious Pizza down the road and it was wonderful, I definitely recommend it!
I was interested in Alta from the press it had been receiving. The patio is nice though we were not seated there. The service was lacking during our visit. The waitress took about 10 minutes to deliver water. It seemed like she didn't want to be there.
As for the food...the shrimp and grits were tasty. The cornbread was amazing. I was not impress with the fried chicken. Bummer that is wasn't better.
