Amazing food and amazing chefs to watch at the chefs bar
Well you can say nothing but thank you at Alta restaurant.bits my wife favorite place. We always like to come for some oxtail. Customer service is excellent as always
Recommend you stay with the 'soul food' selections as this is where they excel. I had the biscuits and gravy and eggs - very good. My wife had soft scrambled eggs with potatoes - cold, all potato, and one egg scrambled; but definitely not soft. And all that after waiting an hour for the main dishes to come out. They must have had a couple of people not come to work today because the seating was slow and so was the service. Disappointing this time around.
Restaurant was overbooked and customers with reservations had to wait an hour plus to be seated. Check in process was extremely disorganized and host was clueless...unable to provide crowd waiting to be seated with any sort of timeline or even an apology. Many people with eight o’clock reservations just left frustrated by the process. Those that stayed were not offered any explanation or courtesy while they waited.
The server was excellent, she check on us all evening to make sure we were okay. even do my husband plate was cold went he got it they were nice to take it off the bill.
Delicious food in a hip yet comfortable ambiance. Diverse and cool clientele of various ages, races, and ethnicities.
Great food and vibe. Very friendly service although a little slow. I loved the menu selections which had lots of vegetarian options, but the prices are def too high. Especially it's not exactly a high rent area.
Food was delicious and service was great once you could make eye contact. They may have just been understaffed the night we were there.
Fried chicken was a mess. Half the pieces were too salty. There other half was good. Mac n cheese was awful. Collard greens were outstanding!
I am apprehensive to recommend Alta, because I feel like very soon I won't be able to get a reservation. (LOL) Each experience I've had here has been amazing. Most recently I showed up without a reservation, and had to sit at the bar, and learned about several different drinks because I saw them being made ( i also discovered a new fave). I absolutely love Alta! Try the Black eyed pea fritters, the greens, the little gems salad... Try it all.... you won't be disappointed!
The food we enjoyed was WONDERFUL and we'll definitely be back to try more. We had the soft-scrambled eggs with mushrooms, leeks, and fried potatoes. The eggs were creamy, cooked perfectly and tasted amazing.
The only thing stopping this from being a five-star review was the service. The staff seemed to be stretched thin, almost as if they were down a server. It took awhile before someone came to the table to offer water or drinks and an ordered cocktail came to the table with incorrect ingredients. Our server, while personable and friendly, seemed new and a bit inexperienced and being understaffed didn't help him out.
All in all, a great experience that we'll look forward to trying soon.
Waited an hour to be seated - with a reservation - and then was seated in the cafe next door. Food was brought out all at the same time less than ten minutes after we sat down. No one was apologetic or even offered to comp anything. The food was excellent but I’ll never go back.
I had the oxtail, collard greens, and cornbread. All were delicious, and nicely presented. Service was very good.
Everything was great. The service was friendly, helpful with recommendations, and the food + cocktails were outstanding. Was not expecting it to be that good, but pleasantly surprised and will be back again!
Everything was fine. We both felt the food was note as good as last time.
Even with a reservation you will most likely have to wait. We, along with 3 other parties, had to wait 30 additional minutes to be seated.
Nice ambiance. Food was tasty, especially the fried chicken, Mac & cheese with a kick & yummy collard greens. Attractive crowd too
Great food as usual....woohoo... We were happy we had reservations because the place was full. The only negative we have is that the staff and valet were not equipped to handle a large crowd. It was awkward at the check in which left us standing unsure of who if anyone was seating us.... After we were seated, we had to summon a server who was not assigned to our table to take our order. She kindly took great care of us even though it was not her table.
Thinking the staff should wear some type of distinguishing uniform as the host had on athletic wear and a cap and someone asked if we had our drinks who had on a red jogging suit and cap.. We would not have thought either of these individuals were associated with the restaurant.
The sound level is horrendous and the hosting checkin process was chaotic on our recent Friday visit.
Can't wait to come back and further support this gem! Oxtail was great. Mac and Cheese was fantastic. Great cocktail list as well!
Our reservation said for patio. When we got there they asked what we wanted and said they had to put some tables together for patio. Waited 20 min for them to do so. Service needs help. Food is good.
A wonderful experience. Spectacular in every sense. Chef came over to check in with us during the meal, and we couldn't stop filling our mouths to properly tell him how great the experience was. No restaurant in LA feels as good as this one.
The hostess and wait staff were attentive and pleasant. The food was outstanding--traditional with a modern, creative twist. Love the wood, the varied fabrics on the pillows and the beautiful interesting photos.
Held my birthday brunch there with the fam and it was a beautiful experience from the ambience to the food and the location. It was my first time dining there and the memories made will be forever cherished. Thank you for bringing such a fine dining experience to my neighborhood with cultures and tastes I recognize! I definitely will be back! Thanks for accommodating us!
Unbelievably delicious and friendly and can’t wait to return
My fiancé and and I went for a New Years Eve dinner. We had a complete meal. For starters we had the Cornbread with Honey Butter and Black Eyed Pea Fritters. Our main dishes were Mac n Cheese, Fried Chicken and Smothered Steak.
Their food is delicious! Had dinner with a group of 6. We had appetizers, main entrees & dessert. Everything including the service was great. Can’t wait to try their brunch which they serve until 2:30pm.
Nothing stood out, and the flavors were underwhelming. Maybe it gets better at dinner, but the brunch did not impress.

Food was on point. I particularly enjoyed the shrimp and grits and collard greens salad. I haven’t had collard greens prepared this way before. The greens were thinly sliced with some thinly sliced carrots, radishes and topped with peanuts.
Was a treat to go today and Chef Carla Hall added her own dishes to the menu like chicken pot pie over a cornbread biscuit. She came out to talk to the patrons and advised us what to get. We had a full table of delicious dishes.
Our waiter was great and friendly. Minus a star for the hostess that didn’t really smile and looked like we were nothing her. Maybe she was having a bad day but as the first face you see when entering a restaurant, she didn’t look happy to see us.

Celebrating a friend’s birthday. Had a blast! Began with happy hour where the bartender selected our beverages which were all great than had a wonderful dining experience. Everything we had was delicious. Collard greens, shrimp and grits, bbq cauliflower, cornbread, and red beans and rice. The food was so tasty there was no room left for dessert.
The food was good and solid but wasn't really wow'ed by any of the dishes. The shrimp and grits were really good. The cocktails were really good.
Food was fantastic. Service was slow, but manager was very compassionate and understanding.

I had a good first impression. Vanessa was attentive and pleasant and most of all she seemed to know the menu and was helpful in making our choices.
Expoing could be tightened up and the floor manager or shift leader can engage customers and make them feel like you care about their dining experience .

Service was pretty bad. They were packed on a Tuesday which was good for them, but we didn’t get one dish, our drinks that were ordered first came out after our food and only when we asked about them, I had to ask several times for my water, we were never checked on and never even asked if we wanted dessert until after we asked. We even asked our server to check on us and he actually never did again. I really wanted to like this place. Food was ok a bit overpriced. And drinks were fine.
Took out of town guest. They thought the food was very good,especially the collards, cornbread and coconut cake.
What a disappointment. Two biggest issues: kitchen really really slow and food was mediocre.
