Al’s Char-House in LaGrange is as close to a steakhouse saloon you can get east of the Mississippi. The cowboy atmosphere will take you back to the Wild West era. Appetizers include the ever popular onion blossom, potato skins, buffalo wings and a combo if you can’t make up your mind which to choose. To give the best experience from the ranch, steaks at Al’s Char-House are aged at least 21 days and hand-cut. Once perfectly seasoned and expertly grilled, the steaks are something not to be forgotten. A popular option is the Jack Daniel’s marinated steak.
Al’s Char-House can also help with events with party packages as well as cocktail and hors d’oeuvres parties. Whether you go for a sandwich or the whopper 56-ounce steak that few can finish in one sitting, this steakhouse and saloon is one not to miss.
The service wasn’t great we had to wait 45min to get our receipt because we were splitting checks. The stuff chicken that I ordered was over cooked and extremely hard. The kid supposed to be well done hamburger was pink in the middle. Even with the complaints we were only offered a gift certificate or a desert. With that being my first visit and the impression wasn’t as it should why would I want a gift certificate to return. The only good thing was the smothered steak fries oh and the Margarita. The worst experience ever!!!!! I understand it’s a steak place but your other food should meet the same expectations as your steak... Would never go back. $80 wasted
I love Al's because all the above is true - FOOD is terrific and a good value, servers are always nice and helpful, like the quiet and the decorations are terrific. Whole experience good!
Food was outstanding and our waiter was the best. We never had to ask for anything. He was always one step ahead, Steaks were done just right and can't wait to come back.
The food was fantastic and plentiful serving, the service was atrocious, otherwise was a nice venue. Make sure you make a RSVP or you won't get a seat.
Great steak and relaxing atmosphere. Caesar salad was also very good.
Love their steaks! Incredible portions for the value. Very nice atmosphere and great food. Never had bad service or a bad dining experience here. Great for special occasions or a nice dinner out.
I love the decor. You feel as if you are in an authentic Texas steakhouse. Food was delicious. Service was not good. I should never have an empty drink glass. Waitress disappeared for long periods of time. Unforgiveable. Five stars? Sorry. Not with that staff.
When we arrived we were a bit early for our reservation so we went to the bar for a drink. The bar tender was very quick to come over and greet us. My wife and I sat at the bar for approximately 15 minutes until our table was ready. Once seated at the table we had to wait for probably 15 minutes before our waitress came to the table. You know there is going to be a problem when she apologizes right from the beginning. We ordered our food and beverages when she came to the table. Once we ordered we did not see much of her. We ask for a basket of bread for the table and she said I will be right back with that for you. Needless to say it never arrived and she actually never came back to the table until we had finished eating. I do have to say the meal itself was really good, but our waitress must have been new because she couldn’t handle her tables.
Had a 7 pm reservation, had to wait .30 minutes before I was called.Dinner was served by 8:30 pm.
Excellent customer service and the atmosphere was great. The food was also excellent.
Casual western atmosphere. Large portions for meals. The side & black bean soup was amazingly fresh and cook perfectly. The steak was done to desired temp and plenty left overs.
Good food, huge portions. You won’t go home hungry. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered. Our server was kind and attentive.
Great food! Service was amazing! Will be coming back soon.
Food and service was good. Would definitely go back.
My husband and I tried the restaurant on a whim 8 years ago, we were excited to make our way back recently. The overall experience was wonderful. Definitely check the menu before going, the prices may be a little shocking but we think it was worth it.
The hostess and waitress were very good. The menu was reasonably expansive. But, the filet steak ordered by my wife was the worst I've ever seen. In fact, I do not think it was even a filet. It looked more like a piece of chuck roast. But, nicely, we were able to return it and get a chicken dinner instead. The chicken dinner was good.
Christmas Dinner was like eating a plate of salt , steaks were terrible and service was worst ! Dinner itself was the worst I’ve ever eaten ! Ruined Christmas with my daughter 😡
Food was so good! We found a new spot to eat!
As always, food was awesome, wait time was minimal and ambiance was quiet. Had to get an employee to get our waitress to get the check. Didn’t come to our table after she delivered our food.
Best steak ever. Love their food. Service was a little slow, but the food is worth it.
Poor food quality
Arrived just before 6:45 reservation sat right away, waitress took drink and appetizer order was going fine at this point and then went down hill from there. Before we received our appetizer we placed our order, in the almost 2 hours it took to receive our meal we had to ask for water and other drinks 3 times for her to finally bring them. And when she did bring them she brought a pitcher of water with no glasses to put it in then proceeded to pour that water to other guests. When the food did come out one of the4 steaks was extremely salty and very tough had to send that back which luckily only took another 10 minutes. When we got home I had also received an email that my reservation was canceled so I had to contact open table to be able to write a review.
Large steaks at affordable prices. Kabob platters are huge and delicious as well. Featured on Enormous Eats of Chicagoland.
Wonderful food and drinks. Great place to go for any reason - anniversary, birthday, group dinner or just a nice night out.
