Asado Urban Grill at Renaissance Chicago O'Hare Suites
Al’s Char-House in LaGrange is as close to a steakhouse saloon you can get east of the Mississippi. The cowboy atmosphere will take you back to the Wild West era. Appetizers include the ever popular onion blossom, potato skins, buffalo wings and a combo if you can’t make up your mind which to choose. To give the best experience from the ranch, steaks at Al’s Char-House are aged at least 21 days and hand-cut. Once perfectly seasoned and expertly grilled, the steaks are something not to be forgotten. A popular option is the Jack Daniel’s marinated steak.
Al’s Char-House can also help with events with party packages as well as cocktail and hors d’oeuvres parties. Whether you go for a sandwich or the whopper 56-ounce steak that few can finish in one sitting, this steakhouse and saloon is one not to miss.
Place was real dark. People next to us had to use the flashlight on there cellphone to read the menu. Stuffed portabello mushroom appetizer was burnt and salty, salad was swimming in water. Wife and I split a 16oz prime rib and cheesy garlic potatoes. Potatoes where in a separate dish, and no spoon to dish it out. Got charged $4.50 sharing fee. They did not even split the plate for us. Sharing fee was listed under the combo platter but waitress said it applied to the whole menu, even though it was not at the top or bottom. Carpet leading to the basement (where the restaurant is located) looked like it had not been cleaned in 20 years, maybe that is why the keep the restaurant dark. Made the reservations here and noted it was my wife's birthday. When we arrived I mentioned we had reservations, she did not even check for it. Will definitely not be going back.
Pretty expensive for a Monday night but very tasty. I wish you could buy 1 kabob and not 2 as an option for less $. It was way too much food. 2 of my children and I ate the meat the next day for dinner.
We were seated and greeted by our server very quickly. All the food and drinks came out hit and pretty fast. The lobster tail was slightly overdone so was the special whipped potato. Steaks were just about perfect.
Food was very good, have been coming here for last 20 years plus, and the service was great.
Are server was Roberto. Service was excellent. Had Sunday special stuffed pork chops. 3 large pork chops. My wife had the bar b que chicken also large portion. Both dinners very good. Been to Al's before. Also will ask for Roberto for server
Great place! Enormous meal portions so it is a great value!!
Pretty good pork chops with mixed vegetables and black bean soup.
This restaurant is hit or miss. the first time I dined here the service was good and the food was delicious. this time going back the service was lacking our waiter took his sweet time to bring out our meal after we had an appetizer. He said he didn't know why the kitchen wasn't cooking the food faster. The restaurant wasn't even full it wasn't that busy lots of empty tables. Be awhile before I go back.
Al’s use to be a great value, but unfortunately they missed the mark. Ambience missing and food quality was not up to the cost.
Saturday night at 6:45pm and they weren’t busy. We were seated a few minutes after arriving. Our waiter was quick to greet us. We ordered the artichoke cheese dip. It was ok. Soups and salads came out timely after. Onion soup was great. Then we waited a long time for our meals. Too long for a place that wasn’t busy. When our meals were finally brought out, the steaks were cooked per order but the potatoes sides weren’t hot. Overall the food was good.
It was my Granddaughter birthday . We had a very nice
Love this place. The food is always good. The service is always great.
Everything was great except the fries was too greasy. It was my husband's birthday and he really enjoyed his dinner and our waiter he was very friendly and professional he showed us he was concerned making sure we was satisfied. Thank you from Mr. & Mrs. Hall
I wish I could go more. Its always a wonderful ezperiance,
Need additional servers on holidays ( Fathers Day )
It was daggers day we went w our kids and it was pretty spectacular. Made reservations abt a week a head and waited abt 20 min not bad waiter was really good and timing was efficient
It was Father’s Day so we expected it to be crowded so that was no surprise. Service was terrible, no drink refills given, steaks horribly over cooked, two filets ordered medium looked like charcoal, and they also ran out of baked potatoes and we were not told until the food was brought to the table.
We waited at least 35 minutes past our reservation time.
We also waited a very long time for our meals.
everything was very good, good food, polite service, the place was a little dark.
Food was delicious and superb and the staff so kind and professional.
My boyfriend loved it
Food was very bland, no taste at all. Steak was dry and chewy. Very disappointed.
A friend highly recommended Al's Char to me and my family and we decided to give it a try last weekend. The place is nice, ample dinning area and nice decor. The attention was good, we were explained our options regarding appetizers, drinks, side dishes, etc. The food however wasn't good at all! My stuffed chicken was very dry and tasteless, my husband's steak was cold and not flavorful, my son was not happy with his order either. We left feeling disappointed and will not return.
The waiter was very pleasant, professional and insightful. I'll be going back soon. And the menu was very diverse and appetizing !
Excellent food and love the atmosphere inside. Will be returning.
Cute casual steakhouse
Went with low expectations, and was pleasantly surprised!
Steak was great, kabobs were outstanding! Device was good!
Delicious! So much food for the price! My son and his wife shared ka-bobs and it was enough for them to take left overs home! I had a filet mignon and it was fantastic and cooked just like I asked!
The food was excellent, filet was cooked perfectly. Margaritas were great as well. But service lacked throughout the entire restaurant. Despite multiple open tables. People were constantly waiting for tables throughout the night despite multiple open tables throughout the restaurant. Most tables were sitting with the last guest food/drinks for over 45 minutes without being cleaned up. From sitting down to getting our food ordered it took over 30 minutes. Severely short handed!
One of the worst experiences I've ever had! Even with a reservation I waited an hour and a half to be seated. The management was nonexistant and when i finally got him out onto the floor he was extremely unhelpful. The service and food were great but the way we were treated, our should i say completely ignored, for almost two hours ruined the experience.
The hostess showed extreme patience with the zoo like waiting area, insufficient waitstaff for the amount of patrons in attendance, which resulted in empty tables with no one available to service them, which resulted in much LONGER wait times. It took one hour past our reservation time before we were seated. Our waitress was very pleasant and as efficient as she could be despite the increased workload due to insufficient staffing. Our food was very good.
Not sure if I would after my experience on Mother's day. Under staffed, waited 1:15 to be served our main course and it wasn't the way we ordered our food.
Poor experience! My family had a reservation for Mother's Day. They sat us approx 50 minutes after the reservation time. It took an additional 20 minutes for my family to be greeted by a server as they forgot about us! They apologized and said that it was busy. We ordered drinks which took another 15 minutes. Then ordered our food and an appetizer. The appetizer, salads and soup arrived in about 20 minutes. The salads were quite watery (lettuce was resting in a pool of water). Approx one hour after we ordered our main course I asked to speak to the manager. A gentleman came to our table listened to our concerns and stated that there were "mass call ins" and that he wasn't even the manager. He told us that he worked in another restaurant and they were "desperate" for help so they incentivized him to assist the for evening. When we received our individual entrees they were ordered incorrectly and cold. From the steaks to the potatoes. Nothing was warm. The server asked if we would like complimentary desserts for our inconvenience. My family was so upset and tired that we didn't want to eat anything so we took our leftovers and carrot cake to go. My mother and I went to use the facilities and while we were in the restroom multiple patrons were so upset some saying they were refusing to pay along with others saying that they heard "the place had changed" but were in awe to how terrible the service was. The unfortunate situation is that I once remember that AL's was a great place to take your family, friends, and clients and I now only remember a place that is unorganized and has poor service. I will not recommend AL's Char House to any friends, family, or clients in the near future. We had a 5:30pm reservation and did not walk out of the restaurant until 9:05!!! Additionally, my husband is a local executive for a large manufacturing co. and LaGrange chamber member. He will be bringing this experience to the next committee meeting.
We were able to get reservations at the last minute on a Saturday night. We were amazed to see the size of the steaks! There were huge. My husband ordered the ribs and shrimp. I ordered the small prime rib. We also had a blooming onion. It was better than the Outback's onion! The portions are big and the food is very, very, good! We will definately go back.
It was really really good the steak was good the bread was real good and the drink was good
Great service, very good food with large portions. Ceilings a little low but that can be expected when your on the lower level. Overall very good to excellent experience.
My steak was pretty dry, the onion blossom was fried to a crisp.
Over the top expensive. This is an old school steak house but priced like a Michelin Star high end restaurant. The food was average in flavor. Lobster tail had little taste but the very plentiful chicken kabobs were quite good.
Inhad reservations and I was a few minutes late but we were greeted with a smile and sat down right away.
Server came quickly and served drinks within minutes
Food was delicious and great portions. Definitely will be back!
First time taking other family members with us. They loved it, they had recently had a bad experience at a steak restaurant in Phoenix, AZ and really appreciated the great food and service at Al’s
Al's was a very good experience overall. Sure would have been nice if our reservation was there when we got there. Luckily, they weren't very busy.
More then enough food, great size portions. Could use a little more lighting, way too dark.
