The food was delicious, we used a spoon to slurp up the broth from the mussels it was so good. I had the monkfish, and it was perfect, a little crust on the one side and succulent beyond that. The kale and potatoes were the perfect sides. The white/dark brownie dessert with the maraschino cherry sauce was so good, I ate it even though I was full. I haven't even mentioned the cocktails, the Uncle ACE is the best. You will definitely enjoy your meal here.
Food was amazing. The chef came to our table for an informative discussion about the menu. We look forward to returning to Aloi soon.
The food was amazing! You can't miss trying the cauliflower appetizer...it was the best~ P
I would highly recommend Aloi, though expensive. That being said, they buy high quality meats and seafood and it's obvious in taste and presentation. Original recipes and specials were all delicious, as were the wines and beers. Everyone from the hostess, butcher and server were extremely nice and helpful. I'll definitely go back on special occasions.
Very good food, I would go back! The drinks were amazing😍
Very minimal menu choices
The food, from the mushroom pate to the spiced lamb, was all excellent!
The cauliflower appetizer was amazing and the service was top notch!
intriguing space. Short menu and short wine list but all meals were very good.
Our meal was perfectly delicious! It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The My, My Myer cocktail was delicious! My only complaint would be the noise level, but that would not keep me away. Hard to control that with a place this size.
The food was excellent but the noise level eventually got so loud it was hard to talk.
Our favorite spot. We come frequently and always enjoy everything.
Experience was mediocre. Food was good, not great, and our group tried 4 different entrees. Waitress seemed better suited for a late night diner than this place, left plenty to be desired. This restaurant had been really hyped up and just fell flat. With so many other restaurants around, I wouldn’t go back.
Great first trip. The cauliflower starter was awesome.
We just enjoyed another delicious meal at Aloi. There were four of us dinning and we enjoyed our individual choices very much. The Monkfish, steak and scallops were all cooked just right and the sides were delicious. The Crispy Cauliflower appetizer was especially good. Aloi never disappoints.
Food was expertly prepared but not especially memorable. Moody, modern ambiance. Like a slice of NYC in Scott’s Addition. Hated the spotlight above my head though. Needs to be diffused. Server was very friendly but obviously green. Made a number of gaffs. Maitre’d was professional and knowledgeable. Overall a nice experience. Might return for drinks and dessert.
Another amazing evening of great food and service. Highly recommend Aloi.
I had the vegetarian options and my friend had the chicken. We really felt both were great food option. The service is fantastic as well as the atmosphere.
Amazing dining experience! Sunday's are half off wine bottles. We enjoyed a few starters with local bread and honey fermented butter. Then a winter salad popping with flavor. The main event was a 30 day dry aged ribeye for two, served with potatoes Daphine, local mushrooms and brussel sprouts. We finished our meal with a strong cup of blanchard's dark as dark French pressed, a long with a miso caramel sticky date pudding cake and white chocolate brownie pie with coffee ice cream candied hazelnuts and cherries. All were flavorful, satisfying and unique. This was my second visit and first for my husband, we will be back! Great place in a popular neighborhood. My favorite meal in Scott's addition for an intimate meal with great food.
My husband and I went on Valentine’s Day. We usually have low expectations on such a busy night for restaurants but Aloi knocked it out of the park. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. Our first time at Aloi but not our last.
Excellent food and good service on a very busy night - we will return
We loved our evening at Aloi. The decor is very interesting and has a cool vibe to it. The wait staff was very friendly and intimately familiar with the entire menu. The Uncle Ace cocktail was unique and so tasty. Every component of my grilled bavette steak was outstanding. The chocolate brownie was beautifully plated and out of this world tasty. They were very accommodating with one of our guests who had food allergies. We will definitely be back. This is one of the best places in Richmond.
Wonderful ambience, although a couple of group tables were pretty loud (it was Sat. night-I get it). Service was beyond wonderful. Food excellent. I had a delicious cocktail pre dinner, glass of wine during. The drinks were pretty pricey but the food was priced comparable to finer dining establishments. They have a small parking lot if you’re lucky enough to snag a spot. Parking in Scott’s Addition on Sat night can be a pain. Highly recommend
Everything was great.Particularly good were the chicken entrée the pate appetizer and the blackberry shrub!!
Dinner with a friend before a show at Triangle players! Easy parking, good location, friendly and tentative service.
We went to Aloi to celebrate my son’s birthday before going to see a movie. The food was delicious although we did have to wait longer than expected for the food to arrive. My 16-year-old required a gluten-free and dairy-free entree and the kitchen adapted the chicken dish for her. She ate every last morsel. My 19 and 20 year old sons devoured their food, too. All 3 of them ate all of the beet purée and every other vegetable on their plates. Huge success. The place is a bit dark and moody so probably perfect for post-college 20- & 30-somethings.
Overall, great atmosphere and space. Food was very good but the portions were bit small. The server had no personality and tried to rush us.
What really got me was the fact that we spent over $350 for dinner for 4 people and they had the nerve to charge us for additional bread with dinner as well as a "cake cutting fee" for serving a birthday cake we had brought for one of our guests birthday.
For these reasons, I would not return.
After a perfectly executed NY Eve experience I was looking forward to more of the same. But sadly the second visit didn’t yield the same outcome. It was as if they tied too hard to make the food look good, but lost the importance of taste. I won’t go into details, but some of the best food I’ve ever had was simply displayed but packed with powerful flavors. I hope they right themselves as the interior and service are excellent. Shagbarks has taken the same downturn. Less, as they say, is more.
This has become our "go-to" for Sunday night date night. Every dish is unique and full of flavor. The cheese plate is a must as an appetizer. My two personal favorites are the Monkfish and the airline chicken breast which is amazing. The lentils and pistachio's compliment it perfectly. My husband also enjoyed the edible garden. The Sunday wine specials don't hurt either.
Spend your money wisely elsewhere.
The evening started off on a bad note as we learned that the 2-person table that I had reserved through OpenTable was not an option. The hostess, without ever asking to check our coats, informed us that we could either sit at the corner of the bar or join the long waiting list for a table. Furthermore, the hostess placed 2 other guests beside my date at the bar where there was only 1 stool, forcing us to move her chair around the bar next to me and thus removing the ability for us to sit facing each other. Certainly not the experience we thought we'd be getting with a reservation at a higher-end restaurant. There is either a fundamental misunderstanding between OpenTable and Aloi regarding their seating options or the hostess is not just curt, but inept at her job.
As for the food, the special appetizer of brie left much to be desired. The "deconstructed" concept and presentation simply did not work. The dish was essentially a modest slice of cheese with a few pie crust cookies on a large and unnecessary platter. Unfortunately, the dinner was not any better. We ordered the dry-aged ribeye for two and were very disappointed. I found myself cutting around or removing the fat, a practice which I've never had to do with any other dry-aged steak, because it did not have the delicate consistency of dry-aged meat. I strongly suspect from the taste and consistency that the steak was not dry-aged, but just a tomahawk steak. The potatoes darphin side was a pleasant accompaniment, but they should not have been the high note.
The bartender, and in our case waiter as well, was great. He had a solid knowledge of not only the cocktails and wine offerings, but also the menu. I was very pleased with my cocktail and his wine recommendation.
Service and appetizers were excellent! Main course was a little overcooked, but still tasty.
This has become my favorite place in Richmond. Great service ( I have eaten at the bar and table service). It’s fantastic food!
Some coworkers recommended this place to us while we were in town on business.... the roasted cauliflower and the scallops were great . It was a sophisticated atmosphere where we felt very comfortably sitting and chatting over our meal . We will definitely be back.
We had reserved the separate room and tasting menu per emails with the general manager and upon arrival the table was not given as an option and the items regarding the tasting menu were not available, and sold out. In addition. The server was very discourteous and barked at us when we asked for additional bread for our order.
This was a 50th birthday party and price was no option.and this was a very important occasion of very important people; which will not return due to the lack of service, availability of good and communication.
The food was fabulous! It was early Sunday night and they were out of a few menu items. Service was bait slow, but the food was worth the wait. Monkish, chicken dish, short ribs all great. The salad was amazingly delicious, especially in January! This is becoming one of our favorite restaurants!
We had a wonderful anniversary meal at Aloi. The service was great, the ambiance was elegant, and the food was spectacular.
Very nice dinner and had a very good champagne that we were not expecting.
This place is too good to review; I want it for myself. I cannot wait to see how the excellent reputation of this restaurant grows.
Service was a bit slow but the food is delicious and ambiance is nice. Highly recommend the dry-age ribeye for 2...
AMAZING from start to finish!
Always a great date at Aloi! Food and service consistently outstanding.
