Almond Ratings and Reviews
WEnt for lunch with business colleagues outside my company, The staff was friendly, the ambience pleasant, and the desserts were incredible. That said, the entrees- a mushy turkey burger and uninspired fires were less than optimal and the chicken dish was just okay. Took about twenty minutes to find out waiter for the check which is annoying at lunch. Prices were a bit steep for lunch.
I'd say everything about this place was downright pleasant, from the food to the service to the prices. It was not a knock-your-socks-off place, but I didn't get the impression it was trying to be. If I lived closer by, this place'd be in the regular rotation.
A croque madame was a soggy, glutinous mess that was inedible. The same was true of the other dish at the table. How a kitchen can ruin a simple grilled cheese and ham sandwich is inconceivable. Quality was so bad we could not rate the place any higher than "poor."
I've only ever visited Almond for brunch and it is one of my favorites in my neighborhood. The restaurant itself is large and open and one of the things I really like about it is that it is kid friendly (it has homemade baby food). I don't have children, but I like the atmosphere that being welcoming to kids brings with it. Food is excellent - highly recommend the croque monsieur and variations. Cocktails are also great. Everyone I bring here loves it. Never been in the evening, so can't comment on the rest of the menu.
Really, it was fair; fine; mediocre. There was nothing at all outstanding about Almond, except, perhaps, the prices are a smidge below general dining prices in the area and the moderately priced wine list is commendable. However, the food was truly uninspired. I rarely pick up a salt shaker in a restaurant, but my bass was so bland, I needed something to give it taste. My companions found this true of the diver scallops and the cavatelli. The mozzarella appetizer which was just sliced cheese really. The braised short rib app. was good. The Friday night special plate of rack of lamb was not offered; lamb chops were. We skipped them. Open Table says 2* is fair. This is a 2.5* restaurant at best. It's fair and nothing more.
This is my favorite place in the neighborhood. Excellent menu - I just wish that they would add more salad options and a french onion soup and that they would heat the bread that they bring before dinner. If they did those three things, they would literally be the most perfect restaurant on earth.
I have been to Almond both in the city and the original Hampton location-never disappoints. Ordered the Pan Striped Bass and for one who is not an avid fish eater, liked the preparation and would order this and any other fish dish again. The sides. brussels sprouts and
mac and cheese are delicious.
We were there for a special occasion and the staff was fantastic- accommodating us a nice quiet table helping me pre-set and select a wine to have waiting at our table. Our waitress, Laura, answered all our questions about the menu and was so great! We would definitely recommend this place!
Our party of four had a very enjoyable dinner. The menu had something for everyone, from burgers and salads to Croques, pastas and more elaborate entrees. Prices are moderate (for New York). I really liked my salad of finely shredded raw brussels spouts topped with the same vegetable grilled, tossed with caesar dressing and anchovies. My Moroccan-spiced lamb ragout was equally delicious, featuring ground lamb over in-house made cheese-stuffed pasta and vegetables. There were some nice options for beer or wine by the glass. Desserts were good, though the pastry shell on my lemon tart was a little too tough to cut easily. In-house made gelato and chocolate pot au creme were hits with our table. Definitely a place we will patronize again.
I eat at Almond regularly but asked, at the last minute, for a convenient outdoor table Monday for a meeting. Most accommodating. That's my text here because the lunch is always great, the service attentive and today I note management -- the get "IT." It's nice to be an Almond customer.
Overall we had a good experience.
Big space, however table arrangement was a little tight. The servers were constantly bumping me to gain access to other tables. We dined on a Wednesday night and it was quite loud - an energetic vibe - not unpleasant, but not ideal for conversation.
Hostess was very nice. Our server seemed a little indifferent and even yawned a few times while taking our order, but she made good recommendations and was fine.
For the most part, the food was good. The mac and cheese was a little bland and dry but the sauteed greens were delicious and warm date cake was ridiculously good.
This place (kind of) reminds me of the old MARKT in the meat packing district before it became an Apple Store.
High-quality ingredients, creative and skillfully prepared dishes, and helpful and informative waitstaff added up to a thoroughly enjoyable evening at Almond! The restaurant was on the quiet side when we began our 7 PM dinner but the buzz had picked up considerably by dessert, although the noise level never became a detriment to normal conversation. Our server was very well versed in the menu offerings, and she made excellent recommendations. The combinations of flavors in all of our menu choices were subtle and well executed, and raised our dining experience far above the run-of-the-mill.
I found the service to be courtesy and friendly. I was expecting to dine with a potential client, who stood me up. I didn't want to order until I was fairly certain that this person was not going to show. They were very patient and understanding. I finally ordered about 20 minutes later and enjoyed my meal. I would definitely dine here again. I also really liked the atmosphere. It's an attractive looking restaurant.
Excellent service, fine selection of alcoholic beverages, knowledgeable and friendly wait staff, and for the most part very good food. Ingredients excellent. Some dishes too salty for our taste but we were willing to forgive Almond in favor of their successes and overall experience.
This was our first time dining at their NYC location as we are fans of their Bridgehampton locale. This restaurant never seems to disappoint on all levels. The staff were extremely attentive and accommodating. The food was outstanding as usual and their version of the macaroni and cheese and curry mussels were toe curling. Our hats off to Eric and Jason.
I like the quality of the food. I tried several items on the menu so far and all were excellent. Even though this is not really a steak restaurant I recommend the steak. The noise level is high - underlining the vibrant scene. Go there if you want high quality food at fair prices.
Usually love Almond. Something was WAY off this past Saturday night. Oir waitress was either overworked or inept and the kitchen was backed up (an hour after our order was taken our entrees had not yet arrived and we were told it was going to be another 15-20 minutes. We left).
Went to Almond for a few drinks a few months ago and decided I needed to come here to try the food. Brought my boyfriend here for his 30th birthday and it did not disappoint. Started off with the marinated octopus and it was delicious, followed by the sea bass and croque monsieur. Our waitress was amazing and went out of her way--even with a dessert at the end with a candle in it. Will definitely be back
Great time! Food was good, I had the chive gnocchi, delicious. The best part was our waiter did not rush us at all and it was packed on a Thursday night. Nothing is worse than having your waiter ask you if you want the check 5 times when you're trying to catch up with friends.
The ambiance at Almond was great, as was the food. I ordered the goat cheese ravioli. My friend ordered the brussel sprout salad and gnocchi. Both were so delicious! We split the crostada (I think it was raspberry..?) Also so delicious. I'll definitely return to try other dishes.
First time at this restaurant. It is a lovely, vibrant place. The interior design and layout is well done and the food was wonderful. We were a party of four and two of us ordered the starters of escargot that was delicious. The other two ordered the mussels which were also quite good. We tried the grilled brussel sprouts salad which was good and then the main meal came. Everything was quite good. We had the smoked trout, the chicken under brick and the braised short ribs. We were not dissappointed. The dessert was also very good. I would recommend this restaurant. If you're looking for a quiet place, I would suggest coming before 8:00 PM. Lively place.
