Our first visit to Alma Cocina was delightful. Alas, we were the only lunch crowd they had that Saturday.
My sweetheart enjoyed the chicken mole. The chicken appeared a bit small but it wasn't. She couldn't even finish the mashed plantains (nor could I help her after my two dishes.) The mole was out of this world.
I had a very nice charred octopus salad along with the carnitas tacos which, by the way, were also more substantial than they appeared to be. The octopus had a nice mix of fruit and veggie to go with the light, mild salsa. And the carnitas had a little zing with the lime juice, salsa verde, etc.
The waiter was good enough to give us just enough info about the dishes and then clue us in as to what's coming later this year: duck, lamb, and one other meat that escapes me. We're looking forward to whatever they come up with.
Great food. Pretty elegant. Good music.
We lucked in to a wonderful dinner at Alma Cocina the past Friday. Had planned to go to another Buckhead Mexican spot but after being told there was an HOUR wait (already at 6:00pm, during COVID) we booked a quick res for Alma and we're frankly not disappointed. Definitely superior and going for a slightly classier vibe than other mexican/texmex joints. Don't pass on the Fried Chuahua Cheese (fan favorite) or the Narajarita (sp?) margs. We already really enjoyed the grilled octopus and the lump crab tostada. Would definitely go back again and recommend to others!
Food was exceptional! So were specialty tequila cocktails. Service fantastic, lovely patio. Highly recommend.
Amazing atmosphere. I’d definitely come back. The service, food and staff was absolutely amazing.
Great ambiance! We had a few small plates and an order of the tacos. The grilled octopus was absolutely amazing!
Excellent service and outstanding food. Also a great bar with delicious cocktails.
Had the Alma Salad w/grilled shrimp... exactly what I wanted, delicious and light.
This was my second visit to Alma Cucina and they pulled it off again! Absolutely excellent cocktails, innovative and delicious food and great service. The grilled octopus appetizer is a stand out and I just wish they did it as a main course! The empanadas Huiltacoche are a new favorite and the Pastel De Elote for dessert was wonderful.
Service was excellent!! Made us feel like they were happy that we were there. It was a quiet night, with a few parties inside and patio was almost At capacity, seating at every other table. If tables were full, we would not be 6 feet apart. But they were not full so we were OK.
Guacamole was delicious, shrimp tacos were wonderful, chicken Molay would’ve been good but too much Malay sauce. Green beans cooked to perfection, great margaritas. When we return, I will ask for molay sauce on the side.
Very unique Mexican dishes which keep changing. This is not your standard quesadilla and chips with salsa offering. Great food, attentive service in a comfortable setting.
Great food and service.
The service was amazing but the food was not remarkable.
Fantastic from start to finish. I’ve been to the downtown location several times, but this will be my new go-to. The ambience and decor are fantastic! The host (whom i believe was manager on duty this evening) was kind and seated us to a lovely table right away- asking if there were any special accommodations we would need. We had a toddler and 9 year old and they didn’t seem to be bothered at all- kids menus were available and we had a high chair as well.
The servers seemed to worked together harmoniously and each one was kind and knowledgeable. Andrew was mainly with us and he was great even though we could tell he was super busy! We had the shellfish ceviche, trio of salsa & fried chihuahua cheese to start. All excellent- the cheese was a stand out. The homemade corn tortilla chips made it extra special. For entrees we had shrimp tacos and chicken tacos. All were garnished perfectly with nicely paired flavors and delicious light fare. Not over filling but enough food and worth every penny! I highly recommend the naranjarita with a tajin rim... it was a margarita to die for! Thank you Alma Cocina Buckhead! We will be back!
Excellent food and service. Will be back
Great with COVID-19 standards. Great service and knowledge of menu from the server.
Everyone was super nice and tables were spread out. The drinks, the food and the service was way above my expectations!! Definitely loved the place and would 100% go again next time we are in Atlanta
Excellent flavor and quality ingredients. Incredibly flavorful and savory. Sangria was so wonderful. Staff was helpful while describing the menu. This made it very easy to order. A lovely experience!
Just amazing, service, food and ambiance! My new favorite place to dine or simply sit at the bar and enjoy fantastic margaritas and appetizers!
This restaurant has amazing food and drinks. The fried cheese is out of this world as are the margaritas! And the atmosphere is lovely with great service. I give it an A PLUS.
I had higher expectations honestly. The service was great! From entrance to exit. However I was not at all enthused about the food, the actual food menu is smaller than the drink menu. Which leads me to believe that this restaurant is more of a drink and cocktail restaurant verses the dining experience. My brother and myself ordered the Roasted Chicken Mole , the chicken was prepared well, and the mashed plantains were good. I’ve had better Mole but it was good. The Peach Guacamole was ok as well and the shellfish ceviche was t good my brother said. The churros we order for dessert weren’t in traditional churro style or shape and they’re were crispy. They were soggy and tasted just like oil. I also had the empanadas which were very flaky and the filling was ok. The service was good but the food wasn’t great it was just ok and I don’t see myself going back.
Excellent food and service. Definitely recommend it and will be back.
Got to get the fried cheese! Everything we had was excellent. Great for any occasion.
FANTASTIC! The staff are all absolutely wonderful. They always take such amazing care of us. The food is excellent. Always hot and delicious. So freaking tasty. The margaritas are yummy AF. Our only complaint is with ourselves; in that we are mad we just started dining here this year! ;)
The 3 of us hadn’t tried Alma Cocina prior to this although we are a fan of the other Fifth Group restaurants and just as we’d expect everything was excellent. The service was top notch and the food and drinks just as equally delicious. When you go, ask for Brittany!
It's amazing experience, Chef Chad is very creative and talented to bring modern cuisine. Recommended
Very nice restaurant!
Awesome. Safe and clean all around. Great service.
I have enjoyed other Fifth Group restaurants so I had high hopes, but it was awful. The food was not up to the usual par of sister restaurants. In fact, I found myself falling ill prior to even leaving the restaurant. While this is not normally the fault of the restaurant, I do place some blame in our server. Prior to ordering, I asked the server about some dietary concerns and was told the plate would be fine. It was not. Luckily, it wasn't just me. My husband (who eats any and everything) spent the entire night awake due to a bad reaction. The restaurant has moved to a 20% service charge in lieu of tips. I am an attorney who specializes in restaurants, so I knew exactly what this meant, but the server made sure to tell us that he would not get to keep the money that made up the service charge and that he would be happy to share his personal venmo or cash app account with us. This may be a personal issue, but I thought it was in bad taste for him to do so. Otherwise, the service was fine, but between his lack of awareness of the food and his solicitation of additional tips, it didn't make for an enjoyable experience - much less one that I wanted to add additional gratuity to. If you are looking at dining at a Fifth Group restaurant, skip this one and try one of their other concepts. SCK is great!
Absolutely spectacular food and service. I was initially put off for being charged for Guacamole or salsa but when you order it, it is much more than the typical fare. Guacamole is served with hot from the fryer large “chips” and the guacamole is layered with delicious additions depending on your choice of guacamole.
Do not let the empanadas filled with huitlacoche pass your selection choice, they are worth the trip to the restaurant alone. The chicken Carbon is insanely good and I could eat their luscious I mean luscious churros with warm chocolate, plantain sauce and apple cider sauce every day. You will love this place.
Truly a great experience from the recommendations from our server, the service and the attention to keeping everyone safe and comfortable. Everyone should support this wonderful restaurant!
First time to Alma Cocina. Went to Buckhead location with friends. Excellent food and service. Will be back.
First time at this location and love the decor.
Disappointed that due to COVID-19- no longer have happy hour! SERIOUSLY? lol not a deal breaker but a great excuse to dine early and enjoy pre dinner drinks 😉
Bartender was great and very accommodating. Food was good. Empanadas seemed they were refried few times. Shrimp tacos 👌🏼
Beautiful restaurant and patio. Great looking bar. They were out of the wine I ordered and only had one alternative. Food was acceptable, portions were small and overpriced. We ordered the shellfish ceviche appetizer which the server assured us was enough to share for 3 people and it was one bite each. Octopus also very small portion for the price. They don't serve any chips, so you have to order as an appetizer, which came with a very small scoop of guacamole for the price tag. Probably will not go back, although it's a beautiful space in a great location.
Very good food with unique combinations of flavors and spices. Our server did not rush the table and we enjoyed 2 1/2 hours of sampling and dining. Highly recommend.
The food here is great! They give a new twist on Mexican food but not so far off that you forget it’s Mexican cuisine. The atmosphere is good especially the out seating area when the weather permits. One of my favorite dishes is the Avocado street tacos. I don’t think you would be disappointed with Alma Cocina. I’ve gone several times the cuisine has been consistently great.
Enjoyed my experience at the restaurant! It was a blissful space in Atlanta. The staff was very personable and inviting. Will definitely go back again
Thank you for the kind words and awesome review! We are all glad that you had such a great experience. Liz is great and I am happy to hear that she took such good care of you. I look forward to seeing you back in the restaurant again soon!!! David Bridges - General Manager - Alma Cocina Buckhead
First time at this restaurant and will be returning. The staff was attentive but not aggressive. Food was outstanding and having food allergies, like I do. They were very helpful with what to order. Great experience all around.
Another great outing on this visit. The standout on this occasion were the huitlacoche empanadas. Unique patio setting allows guests to enjoy fresh air in a covered setting, on this visit to enjoy watching the rain outside!
It was a great experience eating here. The waiter was very friendly. The apps were interesting, the octopus was good and the sampler. The margarita is good but was coated in sugar but they fixed it and changed it to salt in a instant. Minor issue. Recommend asking for the special hot sauce the chef makes for his wife.
